Parametric beating of a quantum probe field with a prepared Raman coherence in a far-off-resonance medium

Abstract

We investigate the parametric beating of a quantum probe field with a prepared Raman coherence in a far-off-resonance medium, and describe the resulting multiplexing processes. We show that the normalized autocorrelation functions of the probe field are exactly reproduced in the Stokes and anti-Stokes sideband fields. We find that an initial coherent state of the probe field can be replicated to the Raman sidebands, and an initial squeezing of the probe field can be partially transferred to the sidebands. We show that a necessary condition for the output fields to be in an entangled state or, more generally, in a nonclassical state is that the input field state is a nonclassical state.

Multiorder coherent Raman scattering of a quantum probe field

Fam Le Kien, Anil K. Patnaik, K. Hakuta

We study the multiorder coherent Raman scattering of a quantum probe field in a far-off-resonance medium with a prepared coherence. Under the conditions of negligible dispersion and limited bandwidth, we derive a Bessel-function solution for the sideband field operators. We analytically and numerically calculate various quantum statistical characteristics of the sideband fields. We show that the multiorder coherent Raman process can replicate the statistical properties of a single-mode quantum probe field into a broad comb of generated Raman sidebands. We also study the mixing and modulation of photon statistical properties in the case of two-mode input. We show that the prepared Raman coherence and the medium length can be used as control parameters to switch a sideband field from one type of photon statistics to another type, or from a nonsqueezed state to a squeezed state and vice versa. We demonstrate that an even or odd coherent state of the quantum probe field can produce a multipartite entangled coherent state. We show that the concurrence reaches its maximal value at an optimal medium length that is determined by the magnitude of the Raman coherence and the orders of the Raman sidebands.

Entanglement and Optical Nonreciprocity in spontaneous Raman Scattering

Frank Schlawin

Inelastic light scattering is a central tool for sample characterization and label-free imaging across the physical and life sciences. Recent work has suggested that scattered light can also exhibit nonclassical correlations. Here, we develop a microscopic theory of Raman scattering that connects naturally to established descriptions of entangled-photon generation in three- and four-wave mixing, while capturing essential differences arising from the resonant, dissipative character of Raman scattering. Using a cumulant-expansion approach, we analyze the entanglement structure of the scattered sidebands and identify signatures that distinguish Raman-mediated correlations from those generated in conventional off-resonant nonlinear wave mixing. In particular, we show that Raman scattering induces chiral couplings between Stokes and anti-Stokes sidebands, leading to nonreciprocal amplification of coherent seed fields. These results establish a theoretical framework for Raman-based quantum photonic protocols and suggest routes toward quantum-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and imaging.

Quantum parametric double Raman oscillators with co- and counterpropagating fields: Relative intensity squeezing and spatial photon correlations

C. H. Raymond Ooi, Konstantin E. Dorfman

We present a comprehensive study of co- and counterpropagating Stokes and anti-Stokes quantum fields in double Raman four-wave mixing parametric oscillators using full quantum Heisenberg-Langevin framework with noise operators. General analytical solutions of the fields operators at any point in the Raman medium are obtained for four cases: two possible copropagating (forward) and two counterpropagating (backward) Stokes and anti-Stokes. We analyze the symmetrical properties of the complex linear and nonlinear susceptibilities spectra of the quantum fields, nonclassicality of two-photon correlation functions, spatial variations of the quantum fields, and the two-mode relative intensity squeezing. We compare the results of forward and backward cases for several limiting double Raman schemes. We find interesting resonant effects of medium length, laser detunings and laser field strengths (Rabi frequencies) for backward-propagating geometries. Analysis of the solutions provide insights on the resonant conditions while computation over multiple variables enables us to identify the values of laser detuning, field strength, and propagation length that give enhanced nonclassical intensity squeezing and persistent correlations. The present work sets the crucial foundations for optimization of the nonclassicality of photons in double Raman systems and would be useful for quantum information storage, quantum nonlinear optics, and quantum spectroscopy.

Ideal pairing of the Stokes and anti-Stokes photons in the Raman process

Kishore Thapliyal, Jan Peřina

A quantum model of the Raman process with the independent Stokes and anti-Stokes nonlinear interactions is developed to study nonclassical correlations between the photons in the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields. The role of the laser pump amplitude, the ratio of the Stokes and anti-Stokes coupling constants, and the population and losses of the vibrational mode in forming the correlations is elucidated. The ${g}^{(2)}$ intensity cross-correlation function, noise-reduction factor, two-mode principal squeezing variance, logarithmic negativity, nonclassicality depth, steering parameter, and the Bell parameter are analyzed side by side to shed light to the correlations between the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields. Conditions for having the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields composed of only photon pairs, similarly as it occurs in twin beams in parametric down-conversion, are revealed. They allow for nonzero mean thermal phonon numbers.

Frequency modulation and pulse compression by coherent multimode molecular motion

Fam Le Kien, K. Hakuta, Alexei V. Sokolov

We study the beating of a probe field with a time-varying susceptibility in a coherently prepared Raman medium. We consider the general case of an arbitrary variation of the susceptibility, which corresponds to a superposition of an arbitrary number of excited Raman transitions. We derive a general analytical solution and conservation relations for this process. We show that the interference between Raman polarizations may substantially affect frequency modulation and pulse compression for the probe field.
