Abstract

In this work, we consider a family of sure-success quantum algorithms, which is grouped into even and odd members for solving a generalized Grover search problem. We prove the matching conditions for both groups and give the corresponding formulae for evaluating the iterations or oracle calls required in the search computation. We also present how to adjust the phase angles in the generalized Grover operator to ensure the sure-success if minimal oracle calls are demanded in the search.

Family of sure-success quantum algorithms for solving a generalized Grover search problem

Chia-Ren Hu

This work considers a generalization of Grover's search problem, viz., to find any one element in a set of acceptable choices which constitute a fraction f of the total number of choices in an unsorted database. An infinite family of sure-success quantum algorithms are introduced here to solve this problem, each member for a different range of f. The nth member of this family involves n queries of the database, and so the lowest few members of this family should be very convenient algorithms within their ranges of validity. The even member ${\mathcal{A}}_{2n}$ of the family covers an ever larger range of f for larger n, which is expected to become the full range $0<~f<~1$ in the limit $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{n}\ensuremath{\infty}.$ These algorithms are particularly useful when the cost of failure of a search is very high, and for multistage searches with a different search criterion for each stage.

General SU(2) formulation for quantum searching with certainty

Jin-Yuan Hsieh, Che‐Ming Li

A general quantum search algorithm with arbitrary unitary transformations and an arbitrary initial state is considered in this work. To search a marked state with certainty, we have derived, using an SU(2) representation: (1) the matching condition relating the phase rotations in the algorithm, (2) a concise formula for evaluating the required number of iterations for the search, and (3) the final state after the search, with a complex phase in its amplitude. Moreover, the optimal choices and modifications of the phase angles in the Grover kernel are also studied.

Phase matching in quantum search algorithm

Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury, Sudarshan Baruah, Biswaranjan Dikshit

Abstract We systematically generalize the Grover algorithm in a density matrix formalism by exploiting the underlying two-dimensional subspace of the problem. Using this, we derive analytic expressions for the success probability after arbitrary iterations of the generalized Grover operator with two generic phase angles . We show for the phase matching condition with three iterations, success probability can be achieved only with knowledge about the lower bound , where λ is the ratio of marked to total number of states in the database. This result will improve the quantum search algorithm when applied to databases with unknown number of marked states in the specified regime of λ , at the cost of decreased efficiency in the smaller λ region.

Family of Grover’s quantum-searching algorithms

Alberto Galindo, Miguel Angel Martin-Delgado

We introduce the concepts of Grover operators and Grover kernels to systematically analyze Grover's searching algorithms. Then we investigate a one-parameter family of quantum searching algorithms of Grover type and we show that the standard Grover algorithm is a distinguished member of this family. We show that all the algorithms of this class solve the searching problem with an efficiency of order $O(\sqrt{N}),$ with a coefficient which is class-dependent. The analysis of this dependence is a test of the stability and robustness of the algorithms. We show the stability of this constructions under perturbations of the initial conditions and extend them to a very general class of Grover operators.

Sure-Success Quantum Algorithms on Weight Decision Problem

Kıvanç Uyanık, S. Turgut

Conditions on sure-success decidability of weights of Boolean functions are presented for a given number of generalized Grover iterations. It is shown that the decidability problem reduces to a system of algebraic equations of a single variable. For problems that require a large number of iterations, it is observed that the iteration number of sure-success quantum algorithms scale as the square root of the iteration number of the corresponding classical probabilistic algorithms. It is also demonstrated that for a few iterations, quantum algorithms can be more efficient than this.

Exact quantum algorithm for searching of multiple sets intersection

Sheng-Ao Mao, Lin Zhang, Bo Li

Grover's algorithm achieves a quadratic speedup for unstructured search when a global oracle for the target set is available. However, its success probability is generally below $100\%$. To overcome this issue, Long presented a modified version of Grover's search algorithm by introducing a phase-matching condition, which can search for the target set with zero theoretical failure rate. Nevertheless, in many applications, the target set is determined by the intersection of multiple constrained sets. Most existing Grover-based methods are limited to the intersection of only two sets and are not always successful in searching for the target set. In this work, based on Long's method, we propose an algorithm for exactly searching the intersection of multiple sets. We derive and prove a phase-matching condition for searching the intersection exactly. Furthermore, we present a quantum circuit that implements exact intersection search. Finally, we support our theoretical results with numerical simulations.
