Abstract

An exactly soluble non-linear interaction Hamiltonian is proposed to study fundamental properties of the entanglement dynamics for a coupled non-linear oscillators. The time-evolved state is obtained analytically for initial products of two coherent and two number states and relevant informations are extracted from the dynamics of various quantities like subsystem linear and Von Neumann entropies, quadrature mean values, variances and Q-functions. We determined the re-coherence time scales and found among the interaction terms present in the Hamiltonian the one responsible for the entanglement in both cases. We identify the existence of two regimens for the entanglement dynamics in the case of initially coherent states: the short time, phase spread regimen where the entropy rises monotonically and the self-interference regimen where the entropy oscillates and re-coherence phenomenon can be observed. We also found that the break time from the first regimen to the second one becomes longer, as well as the re-coherence and reversibility times, as the Planck's constant becomes much smaller than a typical action in phase space.

Entanglement dynamics in a two-mode nonlinear bosonic Hamiltonian

L. Sanz, R. M. Angelo, K. Furuya

An exactly solvable case of an interacting Hamiltonian of two bosonic modes is considered to study fundamental properties of the entanglement dynamics for coupled nonlinear oscillators. Such an interaction is of physical importance, either in a two-species Bose–Einstein condensate or in the case of two modes of electromagnetic fields interacting in Kerr media. The time-evolved state is obtained analytically for initial products of two Fock and two coherent states, and the purification times of the subsystems are determined. The possibility of dynamical generation of a quantum superposition state is discussed at such purification times. We also identify the existence of two regimes: the short time, phase spread regime where subsystem entropy rises monotonically and the self-interference regime where it oscillates and a purification phenomenon can be observed. Our results also show that the break time from the first regime to the second one becomes longer, as well as the purification and reversibility times, as the Planck constant becomes much smaller than a typical action in phase space.

Entanglement dynamics via coherent-state propagators

A. D. Ribeiro, R. M. Angelo

The dynamical generation of entanglement in closed bipartite systems is investigated in the semiclassical regime. We consider a model of two particles, initially prepared in a product of coherent states, evolving in time according to a generic Hamiltonian, and derive a formula for the linear entropy of the reduced density matrix using the semiclassical propagator in the coherent-state representation. The formula is explicitly written in terms of quantities that define the stability of classical trajectories of the underlying classical system. The formalism is then applied to the problem of two nonlinearly coupled harmonic oscillators, and the result is shown to be in remarkable agreement with the exact quantum measure of entanglement in the short-time regime. An important by-product of our approach is a unified semiclassical formula, which contemplates both the coherent-state propagator and its complex conjugate.

Dynamics of quantum entanglement in two time-dependent coupled harmonic oscillators

Ayoub Ghaba, Radouan Hab-arrih, Elhoussine Atmani +1 more

We investigate the quantum entanglement dynamics of two coupled harmonic oscillators with a time-dependent interaction. Using the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method, we derive the exact analytical wave functions without any perturbative or adiabatic approximations and combine this with a phase-space analysis using the Wigner function to provide a complete description of the system's quantum state evolution. We obtain general expression form for the purity and the linear entropy $S_L=1-\mathcal{P}$ for arbitrary excitation numbers $(n,m)$, allows a systematic study of entanglement for a large class of quantum states. We show that the entanglement dynamics is very sensitive to the interplay between the detuning parameters $θ$ and $\vartheta_2$, the frequency parameter $β_0$ and the coupling strength $ε$: the increase of detuning takes the system from slow irregular oscillations to fast and regular periodic behavior, and the stronger coupling systematically enhances both the amplitude and the average value of the linear entropy. Most importantly, for the resonance case $ω_1=ω_2=1$ and strong couplings $ε\approx 0.99$, the system shows robust undamped synchronized periodic oscillations of the linear entropy for all quantum states considered, indicating preserved quantum coherence without saturation. Our findings demonstrate that linear entropy is a sensitive and practical entanglement witness, and we establish explicit analytical relations between the coupling parameters of the system and its entanglement properties, which are directly relevant to quantum information processing and the control of quantum correlations in continuous-variable systems.

Dynamics of an open quantum system interacting with a quantum environment

Athreya Shankar, S. Lakshmibala, V. Balakrishnan

Abstract. We examine the dynamics of subsystems of bipartite and tripartite quantum systems with nonlinear Hamiltonians. We consider two models which capture the generic features of open quantum systems: a three-level atom interacting with a single-mode radiation field, and a three-level atom interacting with two field modes which do not directly interact with each other. The entanglement of specific initially unentangled states of the atom-field system is examined through the time-varying subsystem von Neumann entropy (SVNE). The counterparts of near-revivals and fractional revivals of the initial state are clearly identifiable in the SVNE in all cases where revival phenomena occur. The MandelQ parameter corresponding to the photon number of a radiation field is obtained as a function of time in both models. In those cases where revivals are absent, a time series analysis of the mean photon number reveals a variety of ergodicity properties (as manifested in return maps, recurrence-time distributions and Lyapunov exponents), depending on the strength of the nonlinearity and the degree of coherence of the initial state of the radiation field(s).

Entanglement spreading and oscillation

Mitsuhiro Nishida, Masahiro Nozaki A, Yuji Y. Sugimoto +1 more

Abstract We study dynamics of quantum entanglement in smooth global quenches with a finite rate, by computing the time evolution of entanglement entropy in 1 + 1 dimensional free scalar theory with time-dependent masses which start from a nonzero value at early time and either crosses or approaches zero. The time-dependence is chosen so that the quantum dynamics is exactly solvable. If the quenches asymptotically approach a critical point at late time, the early-time and late-time entropies are proportional to the time and subsystem size respectively. Their proportionality coefficients are determined by scales: in a fast limit, an initial correlation length; in a slow limit, an effective scale defined when adiabaticity breaks down. If the quenches cross a critical point, the time evolution of entropy is characterized by the scales: the initial correlation length in the fast limit and the effective correlation length in the slow limit. The entropy oscillates, and the entanglement oscillation comes from a coherence between right-moving and left-moving waves if we measure the entropy after time characterized by the quench rate. The periodicity of the late-time oscillation is consistent with the periodicity of the oscillation of zero modes which are zero-momentum value of two point functions of a fundamental field and its conjugate momentum.

Wave packet dynamics of entangled two-mode states

C Sudheesh, S Lakshmibala, V Balakrishnan

We consider a model Hamiltonian describing the interaction of a single-mode radiation field with the atoms of a nonlinear medium and study the dynamics of entanglement for specific non-entangled initial states of interest: namely, those in which the field mode is initially in a Fock state, a coherent state or a photon-added coherent state. The counterparts of near-revivals and fractional revivals are shown to be clearly identifiable in the entropy of entanglement. The 'overlap fidelity' of the system is another such indicator, and its behaviour corroborates that of the entropy of entanglement in the vicinity of near-revivals. The expectation values and higher moments of suitable quadrature variables are also examined, with reference to possible squeezing and higher order squeezing. The power spectra of the time series generated by the mean photon number are presented for initial states corresponding, respectively, to a coherent state and a photon-added coherent state. When the nonlinearity in the Hamiltonian is weak, these show signatures of quasiperiodicity.
