Abstract

We show that any Hermiticity and trace-preserving continuous semigroup {γ t } t ≥0 in d dimensions is completely positive if and only if the semigroup {γ t ⊗ γ t } t ≥0 is positivity-preserving.

The general form of infinitesimal generators of completely positive nonlinear semigroups is discussed. It is argued that the condition of complete positiveness is too restrictive.

Quantum Dynamics in Open Systems: No Direct Link to Consciousness — E8 Intelligence Research

Andrew Stewart Caldin

FINDING: Lindblad master equation governs Markovian open quantum system dynamics, with recent extensions to universal forms and photodissociation in cavities; no direct empirical link to consciousness or social agents found in these results. | MATH: Lindblad equation: dρ/dt = -i/ℏ[H,ρ] + Σ_k γ_k (L_k ρ L_k† - ½{L_k†L_k, ρ}); γ_k ≥ 0 (complete positivity); trace-preserving; Markovian semigroup generator. Universal form (Nathan, Caltech 2022) extends to non-diagonal dissipators and time-dependent generators. Photodissociation in bad cavities: Lindblad terms for photon decay with rate κ, coupling to polaritonic states. | CONNECTION: None explicit. However, Lindblad generators form a convex cone (positive semidefinite γ_k matrix) — analogous to root lattice positivity conditions in crystallography (e.g., Cartan matrix positive definiteness). The dissipator structure Σ_k L_k ρ L_k† is a Kraus sum, related to completely positive maps — the same algebraic structure appears in quantum error co Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Sigma-Time Quantum Dynamics II: Open Systems, CPTP Atom Maps, and Random Clock Averages

Ben F.T. Tibola

This paper develops the open-system companion to the unitary BV-clock quantum dynamics paper. We consider density matrices evolving over a finite-horizon sigma clock with bounded Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad (GKSL) continuous generators and locally finite completely positive trace-preserving (CPTP) atom maps. Under bounded measurable coefficients with integrable generator norm, the sigma-chronological product exists as a CPTP channel evolution, composes through admissible cuts, preserves trace, positivity, and complete positivity, and inserts atom maps in clock order. We also prove that averaging over a probability distribution of admissible sigma clocks preserves CPTP structure by convexity. This random-clock result is deliberately not stated as a semigroup or divisibility theorem: mixtures of admissible channels need not inherit Markovian divisibility without additional hypotheses. A finite open-qubit benchmark checks a GKSL flow with amplitude damping, excitation, dephasing, reset/depolarizing/bit-flip atoms, and random timing averages using trace, Hermiticity, state eigenvalue, Choi eigenvalue, and trace-preservation ledgers.
