Abstract

We investigate separability and entanglement of mixed states in ${C}^{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{N}$ three party quantum systems. We show that all states with positive partial transposes that have $\mathrm{rank}<~N$ are separable. For the three-qubit case $(N=2)$ we prove that all states \ensuremath{\rho} that have positive partial transposes and rank three are separable. We also provide constructive separability checks for the states \ensuremath{\rho} that have the sum of the rank of \ensuremath{\rho} and the ranks of partial transposes with respect to all subsystems smaller than $15N\ensuremath{-}1.$

The separability and entanglement of quantum mixed states in ${C}^{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{3}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{N}$ composite quantum systems are investigated. It is shown that all quantum states $\ensuremath{\rho}$ with positive partial transposes and rank $r(\ensuremath{\rho})<~N$ are separable.

Separability in 2×N composite quantum systems

Barbara Kraus, J. I. Cirac, Siniša Karnas +1 more

We analyze the separability properties of density operators supported on ${C}^{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{N}$ whose partial transposes are positive operators. We show that if the rank of $\ensuremath{\rho}$ equals N then it is separable, and that bound entangled states have ranks larger than N. We also give a separability criterion for a generic density operator such that the sum of its rank and the one of its partial transpose does not exceed $3N.$ If it exceeds this number, we show that one can subtract product vectors until it decreases to $3N,$ while keeping the positivity of $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and its partial transpose. This automatically gives us a sufficient criterion for separability for general density operators. We also prove that all density operators that remain invariant after partial transposition with respect to the first system are separable.

Separability problem for multipartite states of rank at most 4

Lin Chen, Dragomir Ž. Djoković

One of the most important problems in quantum information is the separability problem, which asks whether a given quantum state is separable. We investigate multipartite states of rank at most 4 which are PPT (i.e., all their partial transposes are positive semidefinite). We show that any PPT state of rank 2 or 3 is separable and has length at most 4. For separable states of rank 4, we show that they have length at most 6. It is six only for some qubit–qutrit or multiqubit states. It turns out that any PPT entangled state of rank 4 is necessarily supported on a 3⊗3 or a 2⊗2⊗2 subsystem. We obtain a very simple criterion for the separability problem of the PPT states of rank at most 4: such a state is entangled if and only if its range contains no product vectors. This criterion can be easily applied since a four-dimensional subspace in the 3⊗3 or 2⊗2⊗2 system contains a product vector if and only if its Plücker coordinates satisfy a homogeneous polynomial equation (the Chow form of the corresponding Segre variety). We have computed an explicit determinantal expression for the Chow form in the former case, while such an expression was already known in the latter case.

Canonical Form, and Separability of PPT States in C^2×C^2×C^2×C^N Composite Quantum Systems

FEIShao-Ming, GAOXiu-Hong, WANGXiao-Hong +2 more

We give a canonical form of PPT states in C2(×)C2(×)C2(×)CN with rank = N. From this canonical form a sufficient separability condition for these states is presented.

Separability of qubit-qudit quantum states with strong positive partial transposes

Kil-Chan Ha

We show that all $2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}4$ states with strong positive partial transposes (SPPTs) are separable. We also construct a family of $2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}5$ entangled SPPT states, so the conjecture on the separability of SPPT states is completely settled. In addition, we clarify the relation between the set of all $2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}d$ separable states and the set of all $2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}d$ SPPT states for the case of $d=3,4$.

The role of phases in detecting three-qubit entanglement

Kyung Hoon Han, Seung-Hyeok Kye

We propose separability criteria for three-qubit states in terms of diagonal and anti-diagonal entries to detect entanglement with positive partial transposes. We report that the phases, that is, the angular parts of anti-diagonal entries, play a crucial role in determining whether a given three-qubit state is separable or entangled, and they must obey even an identity for separability in some cases. These criteria are strong enough to detect PPT (positive partial transpose) entanglement with nonzero volume. In several cases when all the entries are zero except for diagonal and anti-diagonal entries, we characterize separability using phases. These include the cases when anti-diagonal entries of such states share a common magnitude, and when ranks are less than or equal to six. We also compute the lengths of rank six cases and find three-qubit separable states with lengths 8 whose maximum ranks of partial transposes are 7.
