Quantum orthogonal arrays are combinatorial designs with a remarkable class of genuinely multipartite highly entangled states. In this paper, we propose the method for constructing maximally multi-qubit entangled state through phase parameters of orthogonal arrays. Using this method, we not only determine that maximally n-qubit entangled state, but also find the [Formula: see text] orthogonal array that gives maximally [Formula: see text] entangled states. Such states play an important role in quantum theory with a high degree of multipartite entanglement.
We show that bipartite entanglements involving non-orthogonal states are {\it necessarily nonmaximally} entangled, however {\it small} the non-orthogonality may be. How the deviation from maximal entanglement is related to nonorthogonality is quantified by using two independent measures of entanglement corresponding to the violation of Bell's inequality and the entropy measure respectively. This result is true even if one of the subsystems has orthogonal states. An application of this is that a maximal violation of Bell's inequality in entangled neutral kaons is not possible in the presence of CP violation.
We find an operational interpretation for the 4-tangle as a type of residual entanglement, somewhat similar to the interpretation of the 3-tangle. Using this remarkable interpretation, we are able to find the class of maximally entangled four-qubits states which is characterized by four real parameters. The states in the class are maximally entangled in the sense that their average bipartite entanglement with respect to all possible bipartite cuts is maximal. We show that while all the states in the class maximize the average tangle, there are only a few states in the class that maximize the average Tsillas or Renyi α-entropy of entanglement. Quite remarkably, we find that up to local unitaries, there exists two unique states, one maximizing the average α-Tsallis entropy of entanglement for all α ⩾ 2, while the other maximizing it for all 0 < α ⩽ 2 (including the von-Neumann case of α = 1). Furthermore, among the maximally entangled four qubits states, there are only three maximally entangled states that have the property that for two, out of the three bipartite cuts consisting of two-qubits verses two-qubits, the entanglement is 2 ebits and for the remaining bipartite cut the entanglement between the two groups of two qubits is 1 ebit. The unique three maximally entangled states are the three cluster states that are related by a swap operator. We also show that the cluster states are the only states (up to local unitaries) that maximize the average α-Renyi entropy of entanglement for all α ⩾ 2.
For general bipartite quantum systems, many sets of locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states have been constructed so far. Here, we first present a general method to construct multipartite orthogonal product states in ${d}_{1}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{d}_{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\cdots}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{d}_{n}({d}_{1,2,\ensuremath{\cdots},n}\ensuremath{\ge}3,n\ensuremath{\ge}4)$ by using some locally indistinguishable bipartite orthogonal product states. And we prove that these multipartite orthogonal quantum states cannot be distinguished by local operations and classical communication. Furthermore, in ${d}_{1}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{d}_{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\cdots}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{d}_{n}({d}_{1,2,\ensuremath{\cdots},n}\ensuremath{\ge}3,n\ensuremath{\ge}5)$, we give a general method to construct a much smaller number of locally indistinguishable multipartite orthogonal product states for even and odd
n separately. In addition, we also present a general method to construct complete orthogonal product bases for the multipartite quantum systems. Our results demonstrate the phenomenon of nonlocality without entanglement for the multipartite quantum systems.
Heterogeneous bipartite quantum pure states, composed of two subsystems with a different number of levels, cannot have both reductions maximally mixed. In this work, we demonstrate the existence of a wide range of highly entangled states of heterogeneous multipartite systems consisting of
N>2 parties such that every reduction to one and two parties is maximally mixed. Two constructions of generating genuinely multipartite maximally entangled states of heterogeneous systems for an arbitrary number of subsystems are presented. Such states are related to quantum error correction codes over mixed alphabets and mixed orthogonal arrays. Additionally, we show the advantages of considering heterogeneous systems in practical implementations of multipartite steering.
We construct a simplex for multipartite qubit states of even number
n of qubits, which has the same geometry concerning separability, mixedness, kind of entanglement, amount of entanglement, and nonlocality as the bipartite qubit states. We derive the entanglement of the class of states which can be described by only three real parameters with the help of a multipartite measure for all discrete systems. We prove that the bounds on this measure are optimal for the whole class of states and that it reveals that the states possess only
n-partite entanglement and not, e.g., bipartite entanglement. We then show that this
n-partite entanglement can be increased by stochastic local operations and classical communication to the purest maximal entangled states. However, pure
n-partite entanglement cannot be distilled; consequently all entangled states in the simplex are
n-partite bound entangled. We study also Bell inequalities and find the same geometry as for bipartite qubits. Moreover, we show how the (hidden) nonlocality for all
n-partite bound entangled states can be revealed.
