Abstract

We propose a scalable procedure to generate superpositions of motional coherent states and also entangled vibronic states in N trapped ions. Beyond their fundamental importance, these states may be of interest for quantum information processing and may be used in experimental studies on decoherence.

Efficient scheme for mesoscopic superpositions of motional coherent and squeezed coherent states of N trapped ions

Wen‐Xing Yang, Xiaolong Gong, Jiahua Li +1 more

We proposed a scheme for generating arbitrary, discrete superpositions of motional coherent and squeezed coherent states of the quantized center of mass along a straight line in phase space for $N$ trapped ions. We also show that such a method can be used for the engineering of motional quantum states. Furthermore, these states should help to examine the dynamics behavior of various systems and might be used for applications in quantum information processing.

Even and Odd Coherent States of the Motion of a Trapped Ion

R. L. de Matos Filho, W. Vogel

We propose a scheme for generating even and odd coherent states of the motion of a trapped ion via laser excitation of two vibronic transitions. These quantum superposition states emerge from the long-time dynamics, when the ion decouples from the laser fields and remains in a pure state given by the product of the electronic ground state with a quantum superposition of coherent states of the vibrational motion.

Manipulating motional states by selective vibronic interaction in two trapped ions

E. Solano, P. Milman, R. L. de Matos Filho +1 more

We present a selective vibronic interaction for manipulating motional states in two trapped ions, acting resonantly on a previously chosen vibronic subspace and dispersively on all others. The generation of Fock states and entanglement in the ionic collective motional degrees of freedom, among other applications, is discussed.

Two Schemes for Generation of Entanglement for Vibronic Collective States of Multiple Trapped Ions

Wen‐Xing Yang, Jiahua Li, Anshou Zheng

We propose two schemes to prepare entanglement for the vibronic collective states of multiple trapped ions. The first scheme aims to generating multipartite entanglement for vibrational modes of trapped ions, which only requires a single laser beam tuned to the ionic carrier frequency. Our scheme works in the mediated excitation regime, in which the corresponding Rabi frequency is equal to the trap frequency. Beyond their fundamental importance, these states may be of interest for experimental studies on decoherence since the present scheme operates in a fast way. The second scheme aims to preparing the continuous variable multimode maximally Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state. The distinct advantage is that the operation time is only limited by the available laser intensity, not by the inherent mechanisms such as off-resonant excitations. This makes it promising to obtain entanglement of multiple coherent and squeezing states with desired amplitudes in a reasonable time.

Preparation of Motional Mesoscopic Superpositions of Squeezed Coherent States of N Trapped Ions

YANGWen-Xing, XIEXiao-Tao, LIJia-Hua +1 more

A scheme is proposed to generate arbitrary, discrete superpostions of squeezed coherent states of the squeezed center of mass of N trapped ions along a straight line in phase space. The scheme is based on a resonant bichromatic excitation of each trapped ion that generates displacement and squeezing in the vibrational motion conditioned to each internal state. In this paper, we also show that such a method can be used for the engineering of motional quantum states.
