Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger nonlocality in phase space

Abstract

We show that the continuous-variable analogues to the multipartite entangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states of qubits violate Bell-type inequalities imposed by local realistic theories. Our results suggest that the degree of nonlocality of these nonmaximally entangled continuous-variable states, represented by the maximum violation, grows with increasing number of parties. This growth does not appear to be exponentially large as for the maximally entangled qubit states, but rather decreases for larger numbers of parties.

Bell inequalities tailored to the Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states of arbitrary local dimension

R Augusiak, Alexia Salavrakos, J Tura +1 more

Abstract In device-independent quantum information processing Bell inequalities are not only used as detectors of nonlocality, but also as certificates of relevant quantum properties. In order for these certificates to work, one very often needs Bell inequalities that are maximally violated by specific quantum states. Recently, in Salavrakos et al (2017 Phys. Rev. Lett. 119 040402) a general class of Bell inequalities, with arbitrary numbers of measurements and outcomes, has been designed, which are maximally violated by the maximally entangled states of two quantum systems of arbitrary dimension. In this work, we generalize these results to the multipartite scenario and obtain a general class of Bell inequalities maximally violated by the Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states of any number of parties and any local dimension. We then derive analytically their maximal quantum and nonsignaling values. We also obtain analytically the bound for detecting genuine nonlocality and compute the fully local bound for a few exemplary cases. Moreover, we consider the question of adapting this class of inequalities to partially entangled Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger-like states for some special cases of low dimension and small number of parties. Through numerical methods, we find classes of inequalities maximally violated by these partially entangled states.

Multipartite quantum nonlocality under local decoherence

Rafael Chaves, Daniel Cavalcanti, Leandro Aolita +1 more

We study the nonlocal properties of two-qubit maximally entangled and $N$-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states under local decoherence. We show that the (non)resilience of entanglement under local depolarization or dephasing is not necessarily equivalent to the (non)resilience of Bell-inequality violations. Apart from entanglement and Bell-inequality violations, we consider also nonlocality as quantified by the nonlocal content of correlations and provide several examples of anomalous behaviors, both in the bipartite and multipartite cases. In addition, we study the practical implications of these anomalies on the usefulness of noisy Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states as resources for nonlocality-based physical protocols given by communication complexity problems.

Multipartite entanglement versus nonlocality for two families of N − qubit states

Sanchit Srivastava, Shohini Ghose

Entangled states of multiple qubits can violate Bell-type inequalities indicating nonlocal behavior of multiqubit quantum correlations. We analyze the relation between multipartite entanglement and genuine multipartite nonlocality, characterized by Svetlichny inequality violations, for two families of N − qubit states. We show that for the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger family of states, Svetlichny inequality is not violated when the n − tangle is less than 1 / 2 for any even number of qubits. On the other hand, the maximal slice states always violate the Svetlichny inequality when n − tangle is nonzero, and the violation increases monotonically with tangle. Our work generalizes the relations between tangle and Svetlichny inequality violations previously derived for three qubits.

Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger nonlocality for continuous-variable systems

Zeng‐Bing Chen, Yong-De Zhang

As a development of our previous work, this paper is concerned with the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) nonlocality for continuous-variable cases. The discussion is based on the introduction of a pseudospin operator, which has the same algebra as the Pauli operator, for each of the N modes of a light field. Then the Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality is presented for the N modes, each of which has a continuous degree of freedom. Following Mermin's argument, it is demonstrated that for N-mode parity-entangled GHZ states (in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space) of the light field, the contradictions between quantum mechanics and local realism grow exponentially with N, similarly to the usual N-spin cases.

EPR Paradox, Nonlocality, and Entanglement in Multi-qubit Systems

Raja Emlik

Bell inequalities were formulated by John Bell to test the possible violation of local realistic theories by quantum mechanical systems. It was shown that entangled quantu-m states of multiple particles violate various Bell’s inequalities. This proved that quan-tum mechanics allows correlations between spatially separated systems that have no classical analogue. The main focus of this work is to investigate genuine multiqubit non-locality in families of entangled 3 and 4-qubit pure states by studying a Bell-type inequality that is violated only if all qubits are non-locally correlated. We numerically study the relationship between entanglement and violation of the Svetlichny Bell-type inequality. We analyze non-local correlations in 3-qubit generalized Greenberger-Hor-ne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, maximal slice (MS) states, and W states. Our studies show that the correlations exhibited by three particles cannot in general be described by hid-den variable theories with at most two-particle non-locality. However, some 3-qubit entangled states do not violate the Svetlichny’s inequality. We then extend our analysis to 4-qubit generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, maximal slice (MS) states, and W states. The results are similar to the 3-qubit case for GHZ and MS states. The range of parameters for which we see a violation is the same for the 3 and 4-qubit GHZ states. However, the 4-qubit W states do not violate Bell-type inequality, unlike the 3-qubit W states. Our results show the complex nature of multiqubit entang-lement and non-locality and provide tools for designing useful quantum communica-tion tasks.
