Universal construction of quantum computational networks in superconducting Josephson junctions

Abstract

Any quantum computational network can be constructed with a sequence of the two-qubit diagonal quantum gates and one-qubit gates in two-state quantum systems. The universal construction of these quantum gates in the quantum systems and of the quantum computational networks with these gates may be achieved with the help of the operator algebra structure of Hamiltonians of the systems and the properties of the multiple-quantum operator algebra subspaces of the Liouville operator space and the specific properties of the quantum algorithm corresponding to the quantum network. As an example, the two-qubit diagonal gates are exactly prepared in detail in superconducting Josephson junctions.

Universal construction of unitary transformation of quantum computation with one- and two-body interactions

Xijia Miao

Any unitary transformation of quantum computational networks is explicitly decomposed, in an exact and unified form, into a sequence of a limited number of one-qubit quantum gates and the two-qubit diagonal gates that have diagonal unitary representation in usual computational basis. This decomposition may be simplified greatly with the help of the properties of the finite-dimensional multiple-quantum operator algebra spaces of a quantum system and the specific properties of a given quantum algorithm. As elementary building blocks of quantum computation, the two-qubit diagonal gates and one-qubit gates may be constructed physically with one- and two-body interactions in a two-state quantum system and hence could be conveniently realized experimentally. The present work will be helpful for implementing generally any N-qubit quantum computation in those feasible two-state quantum systems and determining conveniently the time evolution of these systems in course of quantum computation.

Nian-Quan Jiang, Yao Chen, Chuanbing Cai +2 more

Superconducting quantum circuit is a promising system for building quantum computer. With this system we demonstrate the universal quantum computations, including the preparing of initial states, the single-qubit operations, the two-qubit universal gate operations between arbitrary qubits, the multiple pairs of two-qubit gate operations in parallel, the coupling operations on a group of qubits in parallel, the coupling operations on multiple groups of qubits in parallel, the coupling operations on multiple pairs and multiple groups of qubits in parallel. Within available technology, a universal quantum computer consists of more than 50 qubits allowing operations is achievable with the design.

Quantum Logic Gates for Coupled Superconducting Phase Qubits

Frederick W. Strauch, Philip R. Johnson, Alex J. Dragt +3 more

Based on a quantum analysis of two capacitively coupled current-biased Josephson junctions, we propose two fundamental two-qubit quantum logic gates. Each of these gates, when supplemented by single-qubit operations, is sufficient for universal quantum computation. Numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation demonstrate that these operations can be performed with good fidelity.

Operation of universal gates in a solid-state quantum computer based on clean Josephson junctions betweend-wave superconductors

Alexandre Blais, Alexandre M. Zagoskin

The operation of a solid-state superconducting quantum computer based on clean Josephson junctions between two d-wave superconductors is considered. We show that freezing of passive qubits can be achieved using a dynamic global refocusing technique. Further, we demonstrate that a universal set of gates can be realized on this system, thereby proving its universality.

Quantum Two-Level Systems in Josephson Junctions as Naturally Formed Qubits

Alexandre M. Zagoskin, Sahel Ashhab, J. R. Johansson +1 more

The two-level systems (TLSs) naturally occurring in Josephson junctions constitute a major obstacle for the operation of superconducting phase qubits. Since these TLSs can possess remarkably long decoherence times, we show that such TLSs can themselves be used as qubits, allowing for a well controlled initialization, universal sets of quantum gates, and readout. Thus, a single current-biased Josephson junction can be considered as a multiqubit register. It can be coupled to other junctions to allow the application of quantum gates to an arbitrary pair of qubits in the system. Our results indicate an alternative way to realize superconducting quantum information processing.
