Local symmetry properties of pure three-qubit states

Abstract

Entanglement types of pure states of three spin-½ particles are classified by means of their stabilizers in the group of local unitary transformations. It is shown that the stabilizer is generically discrete, and that a larger stabilizer indicates a stationary value for some local invariant. We describe all the exceptional states with enlarged stabilizers.

Local unitary group stabilizers and entanglement for multiqubit symmetric states

Curt D. Cenci, David W. Lyons, Scott N. Walck

We refine recent local unitary entanglement classification for symmetric pure states of $n$ qubits (that is, states invariant under permutations of qubits) using local unitary stabilizer subgroups and Majorana configurations. Stabilizer subgroups carry more entanglement distinguishing power than do the stabilizer subalgebras used in our previous work. We extend to mixed states recent results about local operations on pure symmetric states by showing that if two symmetric density operators are equivalent by a local unitary operation, then they are equivalent via a local unitary operation that is the {\em same} in each qubit. A geometric consequence, used in our entanglement classification, is that two symmetric pure states are local unitary equivalent if and only if their Majorana configurations can be interchanged by a rotation of the Bloch sphere.

Invariants for a Class of Nongeneric Three-qubit States

Bao-zhi Sun A, Shao-Ming Fei

We investigate the equivalence of quantum states under local unitary transformations. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented for a class of non-generic three-qubit mixed states. It is shown that two such states in this class are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values for them. Stabilizer dimension of graph states

D. H. Zhang, Heng Fan, Di Zhou

The entanglement properties of a multiparty pure state are invariant under local unitary transformations. The stabilizer dimension of a multiparty pure state characterizes how many types of such local unitary transformations exist for the state. We find that the stabilizer dimension of an $n$-qubit $(n\ensuremath{\ge}2)$ graph state is associated with three specific configurations in its graph. We further show that the stabilizer dimension of an $n$-qubit $(n\ensuremath{\ge}3)$ graph state is equal to the degree of irreducible two-qubit correlations in the state.

Symmetric mixed states of n qubits: Local unitary stabilizers and entanglement classes

David W. Lyons, Scott N. Walck

We classify, up to local unitary equivalence, local unitary stabilizer Lie algebras for symmetric mixed states of $n$ qubits into six classes. These include the stabilizer types of the Werner states, the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state and its generalizations, and Dicke states. For all but the zero algebra, we classify entanglement types (local unitary equivalence classes) of symmetric mixed states that have those stabilizers. We make use of the identification of symmetric density matrices with polynomials in three variables with real coefficients and apply the representation theory of SO(3) on this space of polynomials.

On local invariants of pure three-qubit states

Anthony Sudbery

We study invariants of three-qubit states under local unitary transformations, i.e. functions on the space of entanglement types, which is known to have dimension six. We show that there is no set of six algebraically independent polynomial invariants of degree ⩽ 6, and find such a set with maximum degree eight. We describe an intrinsic definition of a canonical state on each orbit, and discuss the (non-polynomial) invariants associated with it.
