Charged Quantum Fields Associated with Endomorphisms of CAR and CCR Algebras

Carsten Binnenhei

The appearance of the Cuntz algebras Od is a generic feature of local quantum field theory. This fact has been discovered by S. Doplicher and J. E. Roberts within the algebraic theory of superselection sectors. Generators of the Cuntz algebras arise as charged field operators which implement localized endomorphisms of the observable algebra. Whereas the existence of such operators can be derived from first principles, little is known about the actual construction of these fields in concrete models. In view of this apparent discrepancy, we develop a comprehensive theory of quasi-free endomorphisms of the CAR and CCR algebras which give rise to representations of the Cuntz algebras Od on Fock space. The number d is the statistics dimension of the endomorphism. It can be any power of 2 (including 1 and infinite) in the CAR case, but takes only the values 1 and infinite in the CCR case. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for implementability of quasi- free endomorphisms. By studying extensions of partial Fock states, we find that the semigroup of implementable quasi-free endomorphisms has a simple structure: It can be written as a product of a group of automorphisms which are close to the identity, and the semigroup of endomorphisms which leave the given Fock state invariant. Entropy and the central limit theorem in quantum mechanics

R. F. Streater

Gives a short proof that any infinitely divisible even representation of a Clifford algebra or a CAR algebra is quasi-free, and of Hudson's central limit theorem (1973) for fermions. The author shows that the entropy of any even state of the CAR, Clifford or CCR algebra is less than or equal to the entropy of the quasi-free state with the same two-point function.

Algebra, Logic and Qubits: Quantum Abacus

Alexander Yu. Vlasov

The canonical anticommutation relations (CAR) for fermion systems can be represented by finite-dimensional matrix algebra, but it is impossible for canonical commutation relations (CCR) for bosons. After description of more simple case with representation of CAR and (bounded) quantum computational networks via Clifford algebras in the paper are discussed CCR. For representation of the algebra it is not enough to use quantum networks with fixed number of qubits and it is more convenient to consider Turing machine with essential operation of appending new cells for description of infinite tape in finite terms --- it has straightforward generalization for quantum case, but for CCR it is necessary to work with symmetrized version of the quantum Turing machine. The system is called here quantum abacus due to understanding analogy with the ancient counting devices (abacus).
