Meixner Oscillators

Abstract

Meixner oscillators have a ground state and an `energy' spectrum that is equally spaced; they are a two-parameter family of models that satisfy a Hamiltonian equation with a {\it difference} operator. Meixner oscillators include as limits and particular cases the Charlier, Kravchuk and Hermite (common quantum-mechanical) harmonic oscillators. By the Sommerfeld-Watson transformation they are also related with a relativistic model of the linear harmonic oscillator, built in terms of the Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials, and their continuous weight function. We construct explicitly the corresponding coherent states with the dynamical symmetry group Sp(2,$\Re$). The reproducing kernel for the wavefunctions of these models is also found.

Difference oscillator in terms of the Meixner polynomials

Natig M. Atakishiyev, E. I. Jafarov, Sh. M. Nagiyev +1 more

We discuss a difference model of the linear harmonic oscillator based on the Meixner polynomials. As limit and special cases, it contains difference oscillator models in terms of the Kravchuk and Charlier polynomials, as well as the wavefunctions of the linear harmonic oscillator in quantum mechanics. We show that the dynamical group is SU(1,1) and construct explicitly the corresponding coherent state. The reproducing kernel for the wavefunctions of the Meixner model is also found.

The generalized coherent states for oscillators, Connected with Meixner and Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials % %

Вадим Васильевич Борзов, Eugeniy Viktorovich Damaskinsky

The investigation of the generalized coherent states for oscillator-like systems connected with given family of orthogonal polynomials is continued. In this work we consider oscillators connected with Meixner and Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials and define generalized coherent states for these oscillators. The completeness condition for these states is proved by the solution of the related classical moment problem. The results are compared with the other authors ones. In particular, we show that the Hamiltonian of the relativistic model of linear harmonic oscillator can be thought of as the linearization of the quadratic Hamiltonian which naturally arised in our formalism.

Finiteq-oscillator

Natig M. Atakishiyev, Anatoliy U. Klimyk, Kurt Bernardo Wolf

The finite q -oscillator is a model that obeys the dynamics of the harmonic oscillator, with the operators of position, momentum and Hamiltonian being functions of elements of the q -algebra su q (2). The spectrum of position in this discrete system, in a fixed representation j , consists of 2 j + 1 'sensor'-points , and similarly for the momentum observable. The spectrum of energies is finite and equally spaced, so the system supports coherent states. The wavefunctions involve dual q -Kravchuk polynomials, which are solutions to a finite-difference Schrödinger equation. Time evolution (times a phase) defines the fractional Fourier– q -Kravchuk transform. In the classical limit as q → 1 we recover the finite oscillator Lie algebra, the N = 2 j → ∞ limit returns the Macfarlane–Biedenharn q -oscillator and both limits contract the generators to the standard quantum-mechanical harmonic oscillator.

Continuous vs. discrete models for the quantum harmonic oscillator and the hydrogen atom

Miguel Lorente

The Kravchuk and Meixner polynomials of discrete variable are introduced for the discrete models of the harmonic oscillator and hydrogen atom. Starting from Rodrigues formula we construct raising and lowering operators, commutation and anticommutation relations. The physical properties of discrete models are figured out through the equivalence with the continuous models obtained by limit process.

A superintegrable discrete oscillator and two-variable Meixner polynomials

Julien Gaboriaud, Vincent X. Genest, Jessica Lemieux +1 more

A superintegrable, discrete model of the quantum isotropic oscillator in two-dimensions is introduced. The system is defined on the regular, infinite-dimensional N × N lattice. It is governed by a Hamiltonian expressed as a seven-point difference operator involving three parameters. The exact solutions of the model are given in terms of the two-variable Meixner polynomials orthogonal with respect to the negative trinomial distribution. The constants of motion of the system are constructed using the raising and lowering operators for these polynomials. They are shown to generate an su ( 2 ) invariance algebra. The two-variable Meixner polynomials are seen to support irreducible representations of this algebra. In the continuum limit, where the lattice constant tends to zero, the standard isotropic quantum oscillator in two-dimensions is recovered. The limit process from the two-variable Meixner polynomials to a product of two Hermite polynomials is carried out by involving the bivariate Charlier polynomials.

Multiple Meixner polynomials and non-Hermitian oscillator Hamiltonians

François Ndayiragije, Walter Van Assche

Multiple Meixner polynomials are polynomials in one variable which satisfy orthogonality relations with respect to r > 1 different negative binomial distributions (Pascal distributions). There are two kinds of multiple Meixner polynomials, depending on the selection of the parameters in the negative binomial distribution. We recall their definition and some formulas and give generating functions and explicit expressions for the coefficients in the nearest neighbor recurrence relation. Following a recent construction of Miki, Tsujimoto, Vinet and Zhedanov (for multiple Meixner polynomials of the first kind), we construct r > 1 non-Hermitian oscillator Hamiltonians in r dimensions which are simultaneously diagonalizable and for which the common eigenstates are expressed in terms of multiple Meixner polynomials of the second kind.
