Abstract

Two basic properties of the set of all probability measures on the set of quantum states and their corollaries are considered. Several applications of these properties to analysis of functional constructions widely used in quantum information theory are discussed.

Criterion of Weak Compactness for Families of Generalized Ensembles and Its Corollaries

Alexander Semenovich Holevo, Максим Евгеньевич Широков

One of the central results of the theory of probability measures on metric spaces is Prokhorov's theorem on weak compactness of a subset of probability measures. In the present paper this theorem is used to obtain a criterion of weak compactness for families of generalized quantum ensembles, i.e., Borel probability measures on the set of quantum states, and its applications in quantum information theory are considered.

Range Theorems for Quantum Probability and Entanglement

Itamar Pitowsky

We consider the set of all matrices of the form $p_{ij}=tr[W(E_{i}\otimes F_{j})]$ where $E_{i}$, $F_{j}$ are projections on a Hilbert space $H$, and $W$ is some state on $H\otimes H$. We derive the basic properties of this set, compare it with the classical range of probability, and note how its properties may be related to geometric measures of entanglement.

Measures on the Hilbert space of a quantum system

Andrei Yu. Khrennikov, Oleg Georgievich Smolyanov

The paper is the first in a series of papers on the use of measures and generalized measures in quantum theory. In particular, a survey of the proofs of equivalence of various definitions of the density operator is presented. The exposition is of algebraic nature, and analytic assumptions are usually omitted.

A partial order on classical and quantum states

Arka Bandyopadhyay

In this work we extend the work done by Bob Coecke and Keye Martin in their paper “Partial Order on Classical States and Quantum States (2003)”. We review basic notions involving elementary domain theory, the set of probability measures on a finite set {a1, a2, ..., an}, which we identify with the standard (n-1)-simplex ∆n and Shannon Entropy. We consider partial orders on ∆n, which have the Entropy Reversal Property (ERP) : elements lower in the order have higher (Shannon) entropy or equivalently less information . The ERP property is important because of its applications in quantum information theory. We define a new partial order on ∆n, called Stochastic Order , using the well-known concept of majorization order and show that it has the ERP property and is also a continuous domain. In contrast, the bayesian order on ∆n defined by Coecke and Martin has the ERP property but is not continuous.

The output entropy of quantum channels and operations

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

Continuity properties of the output entropy of positive linear maps between Banach spaces of trace class operators are investigated with the special attention to the classes of quantum channels and operations. It is shown that finiteness of the output entropy of a positive map on the whole input state space implies its continuity. Sufficient conditions for this property expressed in terms of the Kraus representation of quantum channels and operations are presented. The characterization of a positive map "preserving continuity of the entropy" (in the sense that continuity of the entropy on a set of input states implies continuity of its output entropy on this set) is obtained and its applications to the class of quantum operations are considered. The special relation between continuity properties of the output entropies of complementary quantum operations is established and its corollaries are discussed. Continuity conditions for the output entropy of positive maps considered as a function of a pair (map, input state) are also obtained. Several applications to the quantum information theory are presented in the last part of the paper.

We consider the set of all matrices of the form pij=tr[W(Ei⊗Fj)]p_{ij}=tr[W(E_{i}\otimes F_{j})]pij=tr[W(Ei⊗Fj)] where EiE_{i}Ei, FjF_{j}Fj are projections on a Hilbert space HHH, and WWW is some state on H⊗HH\otimes HH⊗H. We derive the basic properties of this set, compare it with the classical range of probability, and note how its properties may be related to geometric measures of entanglement.
