Quaternionic Electron Theory: Dirac's Equation

Abstract

We perform a one-dimensional complexified quaternionic version of the Dirac equation based on $i$-complex geometry. The problem of the missing complex parameters in Quaternionic Quantum Mechanics with $i$-complex geometry is overcome by a nice ``trick'' which allows to avoid the Dirac algebra constraints in formulating our relativistic equation. A brief comparison with other quaternionic formulations is also presented.

A ONE-COMPONENT DIRAC EQUATION

Stefano De Leo

We develop a relativistic free wave equation on the complexified quaternions, linear in the derivatives. Even if the wave functions are only one-component, we show that four independent solutions, corresponding to those of the Dirac equation, exist. A partial set of translations between complex and complexified quaternionic quantum mechanics may be defined.

Relativistic Single-Particle Wave Equations: Spin-0 and Spin-1/2

Stephen L. Adler

Abstract We turn in this chapter and the next to a discussion of topics relating to relativistic single-particle equations in quaternionic quantum mechanics. In Secs. 11.1 through 11.3 we develop the theory of the quaternionic Klein-Gordon equation, and then proceed in Secs. 11.4 and 11.5 to develop the theory of the quaternionic Dirac equation.

Quaternionic Dirac equation

A. J. Davies

The quaternionic generalization of the Dirac equation is investigated. From elementary considerations of unitarity and Lorentz invariance it is demonstrated that potentials with quaternionic parts are not consistent with representation independence. This result leads to the conclusion that either quaternionic quantum mechanics singles out a special class of Dirac representations, or that allowed potentials appearing in the problem have no j or k components. If the latter alternative is the case, consideration of nonrelativistic wave mechanics casts doubt on the existence of simple experimental tests of quaternionic quantum mechanics.

Quaternionic Dirac free particle

Sergio Giardino

In this paper, we solve the quaternionic Dirac equation [Formula: see text] in the real Hilbert space, and we ascertain that their free particle solutions set comprises eight elements in the case of a massive particle, and a four elements solutions set in the case of a massless particle, a richer situation when compared to the four elements solutions set of the usual complex Dirac equation [Formula: see text]. These free particle solutions were unknown in the previous solutions of anti-Hermitian quaternionic quantum mechanics, and constitute an essential element in order to build a quaternionic quantum field theory [Formula: see text].

Relativistic scattering of fermions in quaternionic quantum mechanics

HASSAN HASSANABADI, Hadi Sobhani, A. Banerjee

In this article, we propose a quaternionic version of the Dirac equation in the presence of scalar and vector potentials. It has been shown that in complex limit of such an equation, the complex version of this equation can be covered. After setting a quaternionic form for the Dirac delta potential, scattering due to the considered interaction has been studied. Wave functions and discontinuity conditions of the problem considered have been derived in detail. Using the continuity equation, we have found a constraint implying the conservation law of the probability current.

THE QUATERNIONIC DIRAC LAGRANGIAN

Stefano De Leo, PIETRO ROTELLI

We discuss the use of the variational principle within quaternionic quantum mechanics. This is nontrivial because of the noncommutative nature of quaternions. We derive the Dirac-Lagrangian density corresponding to the two-component Dirac equation. This Lagrangian is complex projected as anticipated in previous articles and this feature is necessary even for a classical real Lagrangian.
