On pairs of difference operators satisfying [D, X]=Id

Abstract

Dedicated to the memory of Gerda Dorfmeister. Different finite difference replacements for the derivative are analyzed in the context of the Heisenberg commutation relation. The type of the finite difference operator is shown to be tied to whether one can naturally consider D and X to be self-adjoint and skew self-adjoint or whether they have to be viewed as creation and annihilation operators. The first class, generalizing the central difference scheme, is shown to give unitary equivalent representations. For the second case we construct a large class of examples, generalizing previously known difference operator realizations of [D, X]=Id.

On the Heisenberg Commutation Relation II

Konrad Schmüdgen

We study canonical pairs of self-adjoint operators P and Q whose restrictions to a common invariant dense domain Q) of a Hilbert space are essentially self-adjoint and satisfy the Heisenberg commutation relation PQ<p -QP<p-=-i(p for <p^.3).Under some additional assumption, we obtain a classification of such pairs. Moreover, we develop some methods for constructing canonical pairs of this class.

A class of deformations of the Schrdinger representation of the Heisenberg commutation relation and exact solution to a Heisenberg equation and a Schrdinger equation

Akira Arai, Hiroaki Kawano

We consider a class of representations {(Hv, Fv )}v of the Heisenberg commutation relation (HvFv - FvHv = -i) which are deformations of the Schrodinger representation, where the index parameter V is in a class of realvalued C00-functions on R. The Schrodinger representation is given by the case V = l. We classify the representations in terms of properties of V and show that they are divided into three subclasses. All elements of one of these subclasses are unitarily equivalent to the Schrodinger representation. But the others contain no elements unitarily equivalent to the Schrodinger representation. In particular a subclass consists of representations in each of which Hv has no self-adjoint extension. Moreover, we obtain exact solutions to the Heisenberg equation and the Schrodinger equation associated with Hv. We show that, even in the case where Hv has no self-adjoint extension, exact solutions local in time can be constructed.

Fock representations of Q-deformed commutation relations

Marek Bożejko, Eugene Lytvynov, Janusz Wysoczański

We consider Fock representations of the Q-deformed commutation relations ∂s∂t†=Q(s,t)∂t†∂s+δ(s,t) for s,t∈T. Here T:=Rd (or more generally T is a locally compact Polish space), the function Q:T2→C satisfies |Q(s,t)|≤1 and Q(s,t)=Q(t,s)¯, and ∫T2h(s)g(t)δ(s,t) σ(ds)σ(dt):=∫Th(t)g(t) σ(dt), σ being a fixed reference measure on T. In the case, where |Q(s,t)|≡1, the Q-deformed commutation relations describe a generalized statistics studied by Liguori and Mintchev. These generalized statistics contain anyon statistics as a special case (with T=R2 and a special choice of the function Q). The related Q-deformed Fock space F(H) over H:=L2(T→C,σ) is constructed. An explicit form of the orthogonal projection of H⊗n onto the n-particle space Fn(H) is derived. A scalar product in Fn(H) is given by an operator Pn≥0 in H⊗n which is strictly positive on Fn(H). We realize the smeared operators ∂t† and ∂t as creation and annihilation operators in F(H), respectively. Additional Q-commutation relations are obtained between the creation operators and between the annihilation operators. They are of the form ∂s†∂t†=Q(t,s)∂t†∂s†, ∂s∂t=Q(t,s)∂t∂s, valid for those s,t∈T for which |Q(s, t)| = 1.

Representations of the Heisenberg algebra by difference operators

A. Z. Górski, Jacek Szmigielski

We construct a class of representations of the Heisenberg algebra in terms of the complex shift operators subject to the proper continuous limit imposed by the correspondence principle. We find a suitable Hilbert space formulation of our construction for two types of shifts: (1) real shifts, (2) purely imaginary shifts. The representations involving imaginary shifts are free of spectrum doubling. We determine the corresponding coordinate and momentum operators satisfying the canonical commutation relations. The eigenvalues of the coordinate operator are in both cases discrete.

Self-adjoint symmetry operators connected with the magnetic Heisenberg ring

Bernd Fiedler

Abstract. In [1] we defined symmetry classes, commutation symmetries and symmetry operators in the Hilbert space H of the 1D spin-1/2 Heisenberg magnetic ring with N sites and investigated them by means of tools from the representation theory of symmetric groups SN such as decompositions of ideals of the group ring C[SN], idempotents of C[SN], discrete Fourier transforms of SN, Littlewood-Richardson products. In the present paper we consider symmetry operators a ∈ C[SN] on H which fulfil a ∗ = a, where a denotes the complex conjugate of a and the element a ∗ ∈ C[SN] of a = P p app is defined by a ∗ = P p app−1. Such symmetry operators are self-adjoint because of the relation 〈au|v 〉 = 〈u|a ∗ v 〉 which holds true for all a ∈ C[SN] and u, v ∈ H. They yield consequently observables of the quantum mechanical Heisenberg model. We prove the following results:

Abstract ladder operators and their applications

Fabio Bagarello

We consider a rather general version of ladder operator $Z$ used by some authors in few recent papers, $[H_0,Z]=λZ$ for some $λ\in\mathbb{R}$, $H_0=H_0^\dagger$, and we show that several interesting results can be deduced from this formula. Then we extend it in two ways: first we replace the original equality with formula $[H_0,Z]=λZ[Z^\dagger, Z]$, and secondly we consider $[H,Z]=λZ$ for some $λ\in\mathbb{C}$, $H\neq H^\dagger$. In both cases many applications are discussed. In particular we consider factorizable Hamiltonians and Hamiltonians written in terms of operators satisfying the generalized Heisenberg algebra or the $\D$ pseudo-bosonic commutation relations.
