Abstract

A calculation of the Aharonov-Bohm wave function is presented. The result is an asymptotic series of confluent hypergeometric functions which is finite at the forward direction. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Correct Aharonov-Bohm wave functions for half-integer flux

Siddhant Das

Abstract A missing angle-dependent prefactor in the wave functions for half-integer magnetic flux obtained in Aharonov Y. and Bohm D., Phys. Rev. , 115 (1959) 485 is supplied, without which the result is not single-valued. No physical conclusions of the paper are affected.

Aharonov-Bohm and Coulomb Scattering Near the Forward Direction

Charles M. Sommerfield, Hisakazu Minakata

The exact wave functions that describe scattering of a charged particle by a confined magnetic field (Aharonov-Bohm effect) and by a Coulomb field are analyzed. It is well known that the usual procedure of finding asymptotic forms of these functions which admit a separation into a superposition of an incident plane wave and a circular or spherical scattered wave is problematic near the forward direction. It thus appears to be impossible to express the conservation of probability by means of an optical theorem of the usual kind. Both the total cross section and the forward scattering amplitude appear to be infinite. To address these difficulties we find a new representation for the asymptotic form of the Aharonov-Bohm wave function that is valid for all angles. Rather than try to define a cross section at forward angles, however, we work instead with the probability current and find that it is quite well behaved. The same is true for Coulomb scattering. We trace the usual difficulties to a nonuniformity of limits.

Aharonov-Bohm scattering of a localized wave packet: Analysis of the forward direction

Davide Stelitano

The Aharonov-Bohm scattering of a localized wave packet is considered. A careful analysis of the forward direction points out new results: according to the time-dependent solution obtained by means of the asymptotic representation for the propagator (kernel), a phenomenon of autointerference occurs along the forward direction, where, also, the probability density current is evaluated and found finite.

Scattering amplitude in the Aharonov-Bohm gauge field

Paola Giacconi A, Fabio Maltoni B, Roberto Soldati

A general expression for the scattering amplitude of nonrelativistic spinless particles in the Aharonov-Bohm gauge potential is obtained within the time-independent formalism. The result is valid also in the forward direction as well as for any choice of the boundary conditions on the wave function at the flux tube position. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

On the delta function normalization of the wave functions of the aharonov-bohm scattering of a dirac particle

Vanilse S. Araujo, Francisco Antônio Bezerra Coutinho, J. Fernando Perez

In a previous paper, we found the most general boundary conditions for the Aharonov -Bohm scattering of a Dirac particle. We found the resulting wave functions but we did not worry about delta normalizing them. As is well know, in practice, it is not easy to evaluate the diverging integrals occurring in the process. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate those integrals and present the resulting delta normalized eigenfunctions.

The Aharonov-Bohm wave and the Cornu spiral

Michael Berry, Andrei L. Shelankov

For flux , the Aharonov-Bohm wavefunction AB ( r , ) is represented exactly in terms of Fresnel integrals. Numerical evidence shows that in the complex AB plane the wave clings to the Cornu spiral for all positions r except very close to the flux line, that is, the argument w ( r , ) of the Fresnel integrals is almost real. This is confirmed by deriving an asymptotic expansion for w in powers of 1/ r .
