Integrable boundary conditions for staggered vertex models

Holger Frahm, Sascha Gehrmann

Abstract Yang–Baxter integrable vertex models with a generic Z 2 -staggering can be expressed in terms of composite R -matrices given in terms of the elementary R-matrices. Similarly, integrable open boundary conditions can be constructed through generalized reflection algebras based on these objects and their representations in terms of composite boundary matrices K ± . We show that only two types of staggering yield a local Hamiltonian with integrable open boundary conditions in this approach. The staggering in the underlying model allows for a second hierarchy of commuting integrals of motion (in addition to the one including the Hamiltonian obtained from the usual transfer matrix), starting with the so-called quasi momentum operator. In this paper, we show that this quasi momentum operator can be obtained together with the Hamiltonian for both periodic and open models in a unified way from enlarged Yang–Baxter or reflection algebras in the composite picture. For the special case of the staggered six-vertex model, this allows constructing an integrable spectral flow between the two local cases.

Exact expressions for correlations in the ground state of the dense O(1) loop model

Saibal Mitra, Bernard Nienhuis, Jan de Gier +1 more

Conjectures for analytical expressions for correlations in the dense O (1) loop model on semi-infinite square lattices are given. We have obtained these results for four types of boundary conditions. Periodic and reflecting boundary conditions have been considered before. We give many new conjectures for these two cases and review some of the existing results. We also consider boundaries on which loops can end. We call such boundaries 'open'. We have obtained expressions for correlations when both boundaries are open, and one is open and the other one is reflecting. Also, we formulate a conjecture relating the ground state of the model with open boundaries to fully packed loop models on a finite square grid. We also review earlier obtained results about this relation for the three other types of boundary conditions. Finally, we construct a mapping between the ground state of the dense O (1) loop model and the XXZ spin chain for the different types of boundary conditions.

General Square Lattice Vertex Models

Hans-Peter Eckle

Abstract Vertex models more general than the ice model are possible and often have physical applications. The square lattice admits the general sixteen-vertex model of which the special cases, the eight- and the six-vertex model, are the most relevant and physically interesting, in particular through their connection to the one-dimensional integrable quantum mechanical models and the Bethe ansatz. This chapter introduces power- ful tools to examine vertex models, including the R- and L-matrices to encode the Boltzmann vertex weights and the monodromy and transfer matrices, which encode the integrability of the vertex models (i.e. that transfer matrices of different spectral parameters commute). This integrability is ultimately expressed in the Yang–Baxter relations.
