Abstract

We use thermodynamic Bethe ansatz to study nonrelativistic scattering theory of low energy excitations of 1D Hubbard model, using the $S$-matrices proposed by Eßler and Korepin. This model can be described by two types of excitation states, holons and spinons, as asymptotic states. In the attractive regime, the spinon is massive while the holon is massless. The situation is reversed with a repulsive coupling. We derive that the central charge of the Hubbard model in the IR limit is $c=1$ while it vanishes in the UV limit. The contribution is due to the massless degree of freedom, i.e. the holon for the attractive regime, and the massive mode decouples completely. This result is consistent with various known results based on lattice Bethe ansatz computations. Our results make it possible to use the $S$-matrices of the excitations to compute more interesting quantities like correlation functions.

Exact results of one-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model

Jiajia Luo, Han Pu, Xi‐Wen Guan

We present analytical results of fundamental properties of one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model with a repulsive interaction, ranging from fractional excitations to universal thermodynamics, interaction-driven criticality, correlation functions, Contact susceptibilities and quantum cooling. Using the exact solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations of the Hubbard model, we first rigorously calculate the gapless spin and charge excitations, exhibiting exotic features of fractionalized spinons and holons. Based on the analysis on the fractional charge and spin excitations, the spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid with only the charge propagation mode is elucidated by the asymptotic of the two-point correlation functions with the help of the conformal field theory. Near quadruple critical point, we then further analytically obtain the thermodynamical properties, dimensionless ratios and scaling functions near quantum phase transitions in terms of chemical potential, magnetic field and interaction. In particular, we determine additivity rules of spin and charge susceptibilities, and derive explicit forms of thermodynamics of spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid. Finally, in order to capture deeper insight into the Mott insulator and interaction driven criticality, we further study the double occupancy and its associated Contact and Contact susceptibilities through which an adiabatic cooling scheme upon the quantum criticality is introduced.

Exact results of the one-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model

Jiajia Luo, Han Pu, Xi-Wen Guan

Abstract We present analytical results of the fundamental properties of the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model with a repulsive interaction. The new model results with arbitrary external fields include: (I) using the exact solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations of the Hubbard model, we first rigorously calculate the gapless spin and charge excitations, exhibiting exotic features of fractionalized spinons and holons. We then investigate the gapped excitations in terms of the spin string and the k − Λ string bound states at arbitrary driving fields, showing subtle differences in spin magnons and charge η -pair excitations. (II) For a high-density and high spin magnetization region, i.e. near the quadruple critical point, we further analytically obtain the thermodynamic properties, dimensionless ratios and scaling functions near quantum phase transitions. (III) Importantly, we give the general scaling functions at quantum criticality for arbitrary filling and interaction strength. These can directly apply to other integrable models. (IV) Based on the fractional excitations and the scaling laws, the spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid (SILL) with only the charge propagation mode is elucidated by the asymptotic of the two-point correlation functions with the help of conformal field theory. We also, for the first time, obtain the analytical results of the thermodynamics for the SILL. (V) Finally, to capture deeper insights into the Mott insulator and interaction-driven criticality, we further study the double occupancy and propose its associated contact and contact susceptibilities, through which an adiabatic cooling scheme based upon quantum criticality is proposed. In this scenario, we build up general relations among arbitrary external- and internal-potential-driven quantum phase transitions, providing a comprehensive understanding of quantum criticality. Our methods offer rich perspectives of quantum integrability and offer promising guidance for future experiments with interacting electrons and ultracold atoms, both with and without a lattice.

Bethe-ansatz massive-Thirring-model thermodynamics: The weak-coupling limit

X. Zotos

Using the Bethe-ansatz method we analyze the thermodynamic properties of the massive Thirring model in the zero-charge-sector attractive case, including the "charged vacuum" excitations introduced by Korepin. The energy of these excitations is calculated as a function of momentum and temperature and agrees with Korepin's results at $T=0$. The specific heat is presented and shown to vary smoothly for the whole range of coupling in the attractive regime.

Thermodynamic Bethe-ansatz equations for the Hubbard chain with an attractive interaction

Kong-Ju-Bock Lee, P. Schlottmann

The thermodynamic Bethe-ansatz equations for the one-dimensional Hubbard model are derived for an attractive on-site interaction of the electrons, extending in this way Takahashi's result for the repulsive Hubbard chain. The results are discussed in several special limits, e.g., interaction much larger than the hopping, U\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0 case, and the high- and low-temperature limits. The dominating states at low temperatures consist of spin-paired electrons (resembling Cooper pairs) and bound states of such pairs. The excitation spectrum and its properties are discussed in the context of superconductivity and resonant valence bonds.

Massive particles in the relativistic limit of the non-half-filled 1D attractive Hubbard model

Ferenc Woynarovich

The continuum limit of the Bethe ansatz solution for an attractive Hubbard chain is considered in which the particle number per site n is kept finite (0<n<1). It is shown that by adjusting the hopping t, the Hubbard U and the lattice constant a in a proper way the excitations connected to unbound electrons will be relativistic with a finite mass. The higher level Bethe ansatz equations for these particles are given. The spectrum and the phase shifts of these particles show close analogy to those of the massive particles of the SU(2) chiral invariant Gross - Neveu model.

Bosonization Based on Bethe Ansatz Equations and Spin-Charge Separation in the Hubbard Model with Finite U

Yue Yu, Huan-Xiong Yang, Yong-Shi Wu

We develop a bosonization approach for one-dimensional models based on Bethe ansatz equations. The operator formalism of the exact soluble models in the low energy limit provides a systematic method to calculate the asymptotic correlation functions. As examples with and without internal degrees of freedom, the Calogero-Sutherland (C-S) model and the repulsive Hubbard model are considered respectively. We verify that the low energy behavior of the C-S model is controlled by two classes of c=1 conformal field theories, depending on whether the C-S interactions are among bosons or among fermions. For the Hubbard model, we show the explicit charge-spin separation at low energy for arbitrary U>0. The low energy behavior of the system is described by the (semi-) direct product of two independent Virasoro algebras with c=1.
