QUANTUM THEORY AND GALOIS FIELDS

Abstract

We discuss the motivation and main results of a quantum theory over a Galois field (GFQT). The goal of the paper is to describe main ideas of GFQT in a simplest possible way and to give clear and simple arguments that GFQT is a more natural quantum theory than the standard one.

QUANTUM SYSTEMS BASED UPON GALOIS FIELDS — FROM SUB-QUANTUM TO SUPER-QUANTUM CORRELATIONS

Lay Nam Chang, Z. LEWIS, D. MINIC +1 more

In this paper, we describe our recent work on discrete quantum theory based on Galois fields. In particular, we discuss how discrete quantum theory sheds new light on the foundations of quantum theory and we review an explicit model of super-quantum correlations we have constructed in this context. We also discuss the larger questions of the origins and foundations of quantum theory, as well as the relevance of super-quantum theory for the quantum theory of gravity.

Supersymmetry in Quantum Theory Over a Galois Field

Felix M. Lev

As shown in our previous papers (hep-th/0209001 and reference therein), quantum theory based on a Galois field (GFQT) possesses a new symmetry between particles and antiparticles, which has no analog in the standard approach. In the present paper it is shown that this symmetry (called the AB one) is also compatible with supersymmetry. We believe this is a strong argument in favor of our assumption that the AB symmetry is a fundamental symmetry in the GFQT (and in nature if it is described by quantum theory over a Galois field). We also consider operatorial formulations of space inversion and X inversion in the GFQT. It is shown in particular that the well known fact, that the parity of bosons is real and the parity of fermions is imaginary, is a simple consequence of the AB symmetry.

Crisis in Quantum Theory and Its Possible Resolution

Felix M. Lev

It is argued that the main reason of crisis in quantum theory is that na-ture, which is fundamentally discrete, is described by continuous mathematics. Moreover, no ultimate physical theory can be based on continuous mathematics because, as follows from Gödel’s incompleteness theorems, any mathematics in-volving the set of all natural numbers has its own foundational problems which cannot be resolved. In the first part of the paper inconsistencies in standard approach to quantum theory are discussed and the theory is reformulated such that it can be naturally generalized to a formulation based on discrete and finite mathematics. Then the cosmological acceleration and gravity can be treated simply as kinematical manifestations of de Sitter symmetry on quantum level (i.e. for describing those phenomena the notions of dark energy, space-time background and gravitational interaction are not needed). In the second part of the paper motivation, ideas and main results of a quantum theory over a Galois field (GFQT) are described. In contrast to standard quantum theory, GFQT is based on a solid mathematics and therefore can be treated as a candidate for ultimate quantum theory. The presentation is non-technical and should be understandable by a wide audience of physicists and mathematicians.

Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT) over Galois fields

S. Rodriguez

Galois fields are constantly gaining importance in quantum computing due to their wide usage in quantum error correction algorithms, and so it becomes relevant to define the QFT over Galois fields because of its main role in many of the most important quantum algorithms. The present article illustrates how to generalize the QFT so it can be applied over Galois fields and explains several examples of the application of the QFT over the simplest Galois fields. In particular the QFT will be defined for the Galois fields F2, F4 and GF(9), also the application of the QFT and the operations involved will be made using the Maple mathematical software.

WHAT IS QUANTUM THEORY TELLING US ABOUT HOW NATURE WORKS?

Philip Goyal

www.philipgoyal.org Quantum theory is an extraordinarily successful physical theory. But what does it mean? What implications does it have for the mechanical conception of Nature that underlies classical physics? Remarkably, some eighty years after the creation of quantum theory, we still lack clear answers to these questions. In this paper, we discuss the nature of the obstacles that stand in our way, and describe recent work to overcome them by attempting to reconstruct the mathematics of quantum theory from a small number of simple physical ideas.
