ADELIC HARMONIC OSCILLATOR

BRANKO DRAGOVICH

Published Jun 30, 1995• 59 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

Using the Weyl quantization we formulate one-dimensional adelic quantum mechanics, which unifies and treats ordinary and p-adic quantum mechanics on an equal footing. As an illustration the corresponding harmonic oscillator is considered. It is a simple, exact and instructive adelic model. Eigenstates are Schwartz-Bruhat functions. The Mellin transform of the simplest vacuum state leads to the well-known functional relation for the Riemann zeta function. Some expectation values are calculated. The existence of adelic matter at very high energies is suggested.

p-Adic and Adelic Harmonic Oscillator with Time-Dependent Frequency

Goran S. Djordjević, Branko G Dragovich

The classical and quantum formalism for a p-adic and adelic harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frequency is developed, and general formulae for main theoretical quantities are obtained. In particular, the p-adic propagator is calculated, and the existence of a simple vacuum state as well as adelic quantum dynamics is shown. Space discreteness and p-adic quantum-mechanical phase are noted.

Adeles in Mathematical Physics

Erik Makino Bakken

In this thesis, quantum mechanics is studied over the p-adic numbers and adeles. In particular the harmonic oscillator is investigated. There is no Hamiltonian in the p-adic and adelic case for this model, but an analogous theory is studied. In addition, expectation values for some operators in the simplest ground state are calculated. Necessary background information about p-adic numbers, adeles, topological groups and quantum mechanics is given.

p-Adic and Adelic Quantum Mechanics

Branko G Dragovich

p-Adic mathematical physics emerged as a result of efforts to find a non-Archimedean approach to the spacetime and string dynamics at the Planck scale. One of its main achievements is a successful formulation and development of p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics, which have complex-valued wave functions of p-adic and adelic arguments, respectively. Various aspects of these quantum mechanics are reviewed here. In particular, the corresponding Feynman's path integrals, some minisuperspace cosmological models, and relevant approache to string theory, are presented. As a result of adelic approach, p-adic effects exhibit a spacetime and some other discreteness, which depend on the adelic quantum state of the physical system under consideration. Besides review, this article contains also some new results.

Quantum mechanics on p-adic fields

Philippe Ruelle, E. Thiran, D. Verstegen +1 more

A formulation of quantum mechanics on p-adic number fields is presented. Quantum amplitudes are taken as complex functions of p-adic variables and it is shown how the Weyl approach to quantum mechanics can be generalized to the p-adic case. The p-adic analogs of simple one-dimensional systems (free particle, compact and noncompact oscillators) are defined by a ‘‘group of motion,’’ which is an Abelian subgroup of SL (2,Qp). In each case the evolution operator is a unitary representation of the appropriate group. Its spectrum is given by characters and its eigenstates are calculated.

p-ADIC AND ADELIC FREE RELATIVISTIC PARTICLE

G. S. DJORDJEVIĆ, L. J. NEŠIĆ, B. DRAGOVICH

We consider spectral problem for a free relativistic particle in p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics. In particular, we found p-adic and adelic eigenfunctions. Within adelic approach there exist quantum states that exhibit discrete structure of space–time at the Planck scale.
