Quantum Field Theory Beyond the S-Matrix Formalism

Igor' Pavlovich Volobuev, Vadim Olegovich Egorov

Abstract Particle transitions passing over finite space and time intervals are self-consistently described within a novel quantum field-theoretical approach based on Feynman diagrams in configuration space. The transition to momentum space is performed following the rules modified so as to consider the geometry of neutral-meson and neutrino oscillation experiments. Using the processes of decay of an unstable scalar particle at a macroscopic distance from the source and of neutral kaon and neutrino oscillations as examples, we demonstrate that their known characteristics are adequately reproduced within the proposed approach.

Oscillations of neutrinos and mesons in quantum field theory

Beuthe, M

The controversies regarding the oscillation formula are reviewed. The different existing quantum field treatments of oscillations are reconciled by a thorough study of the external wave packet model. Stationary models are shown to be a particular case of this model. All decoherence terms are computed explicitly, so that it becomes clear that the coherence length tends to infinity in the stationary limit. Decoherence is shown to originate not only in the separation of wave packets, but also in their dispersion. Relativistic and nonrelativistic oscillating particles are treated on the same footing. The oscillation formula is derived for an unstable particle within the same formalism. Finally, correlated oscillations are discussed in detail.

Entropic Uncertainty in Neutrino and Meson Systems

Zhiming Huang

Abstract The dynamics of quantum‐memory‐assisted entropic uncertainty for the closed neutrino system in the context of two flavor oscillations and the meson system within the framework of open quantum system are investigated. It is found that the entropic uncertainty exists in close relation with the quantum correlation, and growing quantum correlation can decrease the uncertainty. The oscillatory behaviors of entropic uncertainty in neutrino system brought about by neutrino oscillating property are different from the decaying behaviors of entropic uncertainty in meson system induced by the meson decaying nature. In addition, the entropic uncertainty is always equal to its lower bound in the two subatomic systems. This study would throw light on the particle behavior characteristics of high energy physics, and may be useful to the tasks of quantum information‐processing implemented with subatomic system since the uncertainty principle plays vital role in quantum information science and technology.
