Abstract

We study the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalue distribution of the corner transfer matrix (M(CTM)) and the density matrix (M(DM)) in the density-matrix renormalization group. We utilize the relationship M(DM)=M(4)(CTM), which holds for noncritical systems in the thermodynamic limit. We derive the exact and universal asymptotic form of the M(DM) eigenvalue distribution for a class of integrable models in the massive regime. For nonintegrable models, the universal asymptotic form is also verified by numerical renormalization group calculations.

Real-Space Renormalization Group Approach for the Corner Hamiltonian

Kouichi Okunishi

We present a real-space renormalization group approach for the corner Hamiltonian, which is relevant to the reduced density matrix in the density matrix renormalization group. A set of self-consistent equations that the renormalized Hamiltonian should satisfy in the thermodynamic limit is also derived from the fixed point of the recursion relation for the corner Hamiltonian. We demonstrate the renormalization group algorithm for the $S=1/2$ XXZ spin chain and show that the results are consistent with the exact solution. We further examine the renormalization group for the S=1 Heisenberg spin chain and then discuss the nature of the eigenvalue spectrum of the corner Hamiltonian for the non-integrable model.

Correlation Functions and Corner Transfer Matrix of the Chiral Potts Model

C. Ritter, G von Gehlen

We use the Density Matrix Renormalization Group technique to compute correlation functions of the Z_3-chiral Potts quantum chain in the massive regimes. Chains of up to 70 sites are used and a clear oscillatory behavior is found. We also check the relation between the density matrix spectrum and the Corner Transfer Matrix spectrum pointed out by Nishino and Okunishi, using Baxter's low-temperature formulae for the chiral Potts Corner Transfer Matrix eigenvalues. We find very good agreement.

Density‐matrix spectra for integrable models

Ingo Peschel, Matthias Kaulke, Örs Legeza

Abstract The spectra which occur in numerical density‐matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations for quantum chains can be obtained analytically for integrable models via corner transfer matrices. This is shown in detail for the transverse Ising chain and the uniaxial XXZ Heisenberg model and explains in particular their exponential character in these cases.

Corner transfer matrices and corner magnetization for the Ising model

Brian Davies, Ingo Peschel

The authors consider the corner magnetization of an Ising square lattice with free edges along a diagonal direction. Using some remarkable properties of the corner transfer matrix, they give a unified treatment for various opening angles. The calculation of the magnetization is reduced to the solution of a matrix equation. In the thermodynamic limit they construct an explicit form of this equation and discuss its numerical and asymptotic solution and the results obtained thereby.

Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalization Group Method

Tomotoshi Nishino, Kouichi Okunishi

We propose a new fast numerical renormalization group method, the corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) method, which is based on a unified scheme of Baxter's corner transfer matrix method and White's density matrix renormalization groupmethod. The key point is that a product of four corner transfer matrices gives the densitymatrix. We formulate the CTMRG method as a renormalization of 2D classical models.
