We comment on the Reply of G. Su and M. Suzuki [cond-mat/9808011] to our Comment [cond-mat/9807402] about the papers of G. Su [Phys. Rev. B 54, 8291 (1996)] and G. Su and M. Suzuki [Phys. Rev. B 57, 13367 (1998)]. The algebraic mistake originating their incorrect solutions is evidenced in detail.

Comment on "Symmetry properties of magnetization in the Hubbard model at finite temperature"

Adolfo Avella, Francesco Paolo Mancini, D. Villani

The results of G. Su and M. Suzuki [Phys. Rev. B 54, 8291 (1996); ibidem 57, 13367 (1998)] for the spin and pseudo-spin symmetry properties of the Hubbard model are reexamined. We point out that the exact relations they have found are valid down to zero temperature and that their solutions for both spin and pseudo-spin correlation functions are incorrect.

In the preceding Comment, the energy of the system is expanded at a van Hove singularity of one band as a function of changes in the field, the magnetization, and the Fermi energy. Unfortunately, not all the derivatives are properly defined at a van Hove singularity. This leads to the erroneous conclusion that the susceptibility is finite at the critical point. The correct result is that M\ensuremath{\propto}(H-${\mathit{H}}_{\mathit{c}}$${)}^{1/2}$, in analogy to a Prokovsky-Talapov transition.
