Quasiparticle Energy Dispersion and Shadow Peaks in a Doped SO(5) Symmetric Ladder

Abstract

Mean field and exact diagonalization studies on the quasiparticle excitation of an SO(5) symmetric two-leg ladder system are reported. It is shown that the energy gap in the quasiparticle excitation is caused by the formation of rung singlet states. We find that shadow peaks can occur above the Fermi surface with antiferromagnetic electron correlations involving only rungs in the spin ladder.

Mean Field and Exact Diagonalization Studies on an SO(5) Symmetric Ladder

Seung-Pyo Hong, S. H. Suck Salk

Abstract Mean field and exact diagonalization studies on the quasiparticle excitation of an SO(5) symmetric two-leg ladder system are reported. It is shown that the two results are in good agreement with each other in the weak coupling limit. It is found that shadow peaks appear above the Fermi surface as a result of quasiparticle excitation which represents a mixture of electron and hole states.

From the Hubbard to the SO(5) Ladder: A Numerical Study

Daniel Duffy, Stephan Haas, Eugene Kim

The Hubbard Hamiltonian on a two-leg ladder is studied numerically using quantum Monte Carlo and Exact Diagonalization techniques. A rung interaction, $V$, is turned on such that the resulting model has an exact SO(5) symmetry when $V=-U$. The evolution of the low energy excitation spectrum is presented from the pure Hubbard ladder to the SO(5) ladder. It is shown that the low energy excitations in the pure Hubbard ladder have an approximate SO(5) symmetry.

Evolution of the low-energy excitation spectrum from the pure Hubbard ladder to the SO(5) ladder: A numerical study

Daniel Duffy, Stephan Haas, Eugene Kim

The Hubbard Hamiltonian on a two-leg ladder is studied numerically using quantum Monte Carlo and exact diagonalization techniques. A rung interaction, $V,$ is turned on such that the resulting model has an exact SO(5) symmetry when $V=\ensuremath{-}U.$ The evolution of the low-energy excitation spectrum is presented from the pure Hubbard ladder to the SO(5) ladder. It is shown that the low-energy excitations in the pure Hubbard ladder have an approximate SO(5) symmetry.

SO(5) symmetric ladder

Douglas J. Scalapino, Shoucheng Zhang, Werner R. Hanke

We construct an SO(5) symmetric electron model on a two-chain ladder with purely local interactions on a rung. The ground state phase diagram of this model is determined in the strong-coupling limit. The relationship between the spin-gap magnon mode of the spin-gap insulator and the $\ensuremath{\pi}$ resonance mode of the $d$-wave pairing phase is discussed. We also present the exact ground state for an SO(5) superspin model.

Dynamical spin correlations in the Heisenberg ladder under a magnetic field and correlation functions in the SO(5) ladder

Akira Furusaki, Shoucheng Zhang

The zero-temperature dynamical spin-spin correlation functions are calculated for the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ two-leg antiferromagnetic Heisenberg ladder in a magnetic field above the lower critical field ${H}_{c1}$. The dynamical structure factors are calculated, which exhibit both massless modes and massive excitations. These modes appear in different sectors characterized by the parity in the rung direction and by the momentum in the direction of the chains. The structure factors have power-law singularities at the lower edges of their support. The results are also applicable to the spin-1 Heisenberg chain. The implications are briefly discussed for the various correlation functions and the $\ensuremath{\pi}$ resonance in the SO(5) symmetric ladder model.
