A SINGLE HOLE IN THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL INFINITE-U HUBBARD MODEL IN AN ORBITAL MAGNETIC FIELD

S. V. Meshkov, J C Anglès d'Auriac

Using an original Quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, we study the thermodynamical properties of a single hole in the two-dimensional infinite-U Hubbard model at finite temperature. We investigate the energy and the spin correlators as a function of an external orbital magnetic field. This field is found to destroy the Nagaoka ferromagnetism and to induce chirality in the spin background. The applied field is partially screened by a fictitious magnetic field coming from the chirality. Our algorithm allows us to reach a temperature low enough to discuss the ground state properties of the model.

STUDY ON THE SINGLE IMPURITY SCATTERING TO THE ONE DIMENSIONAL SPIN 1/2 ELECTRONS

SHI YUN LONG, S.N.NABEEL, ZHANG YU MEI +3 more

The Gaussian wave functional method is applied to investigate the effects of the scattering of a local impurity to the one dimensional conduction electrons, whose low energy behavior can be described by the Luttinger model. Our results show that both the single particle scattering and pair particle scattering are important in this case. The competition between these two scattering mechanisms gives rise to the renormalized masses for both charge and spin density waves. The vanishing of these masses depicts the phase boundaries in the parameter space, different dynamical behaviors are thus determined.
