Greiter replies to Demler, Zhang, Meixner, and Hanke

Abstract

In a comment on my recent manuscript on the pi-particle [cond-mat/9705049], Demler et al. [cond-mat/9705191] argued that there is a correction to the chemical potential which enters the expression for the energy of the pi-particle given in [Demler and Zhang, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 4126 (1995)]. This is shown to be incorrect. I further offer an interpretation for the low-energy resonances observed by Meixner et al. [cond-mat/9701217] in the pi-pi correlation function in a finite-size Hubbard cluster at low electron densities.

Response to Greiter's Comment

Eugene Demler, Shoucheng Zhang, Stefan Meixner +1 more

Greiter claimed erroneously that the pi-excitation of the Hubbard model has an energy of the order of U. This mistake originates from a inconsistent treatment of the two particle Hartree energy and the Hartee correction to the chemical potential. In any self-consistent calculations, these two contributions cancel exactly, as shown by Kohn, Luttinger and Ward. We also show that his interpretation of the finite-size studies is inconsistent.

Reply to ``Comment on `On the Luttinger theorem concerning number of particles in the ground states of systems of interacting fermions','' arXiv:0711.3093v1, by A. Rosch

Behnam Farid

We reply to the Comment by Achim Rosch [1] (arXiv:0711.3093v1) who challenges our finding in Ref. [2] (arXiv:0711.0952v1) with regard to the validity of the Luttinger theorem in the cases of Mott insulating N-particle ground states (even) when the chemical potential used in applying this theorem coincides with the zero-temperature limit of the chemical potential satisfying the equation of state corresponding to N particles. Rosch further argues that the strong-coupling expression for the single-particle Green function presented in Ref. [3] (arXiv:cond-mat/0602656v2) and analyzed in Ref. [2] does not imply destruction of the Mott insulating state at half-filling as a result of an arbitrary weak hopping contribution that breaks particle-hole symmetry and therefore suggests that our conclusion in Ref. [2] to the contrary were incorrect. Here we show the shortcomings of Rosch's arguments.

Reply to “Comment on ‘Accurate ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at half filling’ ”

G. P. Zhang

We respond to Jeckelman's Comment on our paper [G. P. Zhang, Phys. Rev. B 68, 153101 (2003)], which discusses his previous work [E. Jeckelmann, Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 236401 (2002)]. We feel that it is important to point out that his previous results show a trend contradicting the weak-coupling limit, a conclusion that is independent of our calculation. Therefore, our comments on his previous results remain valid and our conclusion is unchanged.

Comment on “Accurate ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at half filling”

Eric Jeckelmann

It is shown that Guoping Zhang's results [G. P. Zhang, Phys. Rev. B 68, 153101 (2003)] for the charge-density wave-phase boundary in the half-filled one-dimensional extended Hubbard model are incorrect and that his criticism of my work [E. Jeckelmann, Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 236401 (2002)] is groundless.

Comment on ``Orbital-selective Mott transitions in two-band Hubbard models''

A. Liebsch

A recent paper by Bluemer et al. [cond-mat/0609758] again criticizes earlier QMC/DMFT results by Liebsch [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 70}, 165103 (2004)]. This criticism is shown to be unfounded.
