Abstract

All eigenstates and eigenvalues are determined for the spin- XXZ chain H=2J${\ensuremath{\sum}}_{\mathrm{i}}$(${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}}^{\mathrm{x}}$${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}+1}^{\mathrm{x}}$+${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}}^{\mathrm{y}}$${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}+1}^{\mathrm{y}}$+\ensuremath{\Delta}${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}}^{\mathrm{z}}$${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{i}+1}^{\mathrm{z}}$) for rings with up to N=16 spins, for anisotropies \ensuremath{\Delta}=0, cos (0.3\ensuremath{\pi}), and 1. The dynamic spin pair correlations 〈${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{l}+\mathrm{n}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$(t)${\mathrm{S}}_{\mathrm{l}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$〉, (\ensuremath{\mu}=x,z), the dynamic structure factors ${\mathrm{S}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$(q,\ensuremath{\omega}), and the intermediate structure factors ${\mathrm{I}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$(q,t) are calculated for arbitrary temperature T. It is found that for all T, ${\mathrm{S}}^{\mathrm{z}}$(q,\ensuremath{\omega}) is mainly concentrated on the region |\ensuremath{\omega}|${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\varepsilon}}}_{2}$(q), where ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\varepsilon}}}_{2}$(q) is the upper boundary of the two-spinon continuum, although excited states corresponding to a much broader frequency spectrum contribute. This is also true for the Haldane-Shastry model and the frustrated Heisenberg model. The intermediate structure factors ${\mathrm{I}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$(q,t) for \ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\ne}0 show exponential decay for high T and large q. Within the accessible time range, the time-dependent spin-correlation functions do not display the long-time signatures of spin diffusion.

Dynamics of the spin- Heisenberg chain at intermediate temperatures

Oleg A. Starykh, Anders W. Sandvik, Rajiv R. P. Singh

Combining high-temperature expansions with the recursion method and quantum Monte Carlo simulations with the maximum entropy method, we study the dynamics of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain at temperatures above and below the coupling J. By comparing the two sets of calculations, their relative strengths are assessed. At high temperatures, we find that there is a low-frequency peak in the momentum-integrated dynamic structure factor, due to diffusive long-wavelength modes. This peak is rapidly suppressed as the temperature is lowered below J. Calculation of the complete dynamic structure factor S(k,\ensuremath{\omega}) shows how the spectral features associated with the two-spinon continuum develop at low temperatures. We extract the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/${\mathrm{T}}_{1}$ from the \ensuremath{\omega}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0 limit, and compare with recent experimental results for ${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}$${\mathrm{CuO}}_{3}$ and ${\mathrm{CuGeO}}_{3}$. We also discuss the scaling behavior of the dynamic susceptibility, and of the static structure factor S(k) and the static susceptibility \ensuremath{\chi}(k). We confirm the asymptotic low-temperature forms S(\ensuremath{\pi})\ensuremath{\sim}[ln (T)${]}^{3\mathrm{/}2}$ and \ensuremath{\chi}(\ensuremath{\pi})\ensuremath{\sim}${\mathrm{T}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$[ln (T)${]}^{1\mathrm{/}2}$, expected from previous theoretical studies.

Numerical renormalization-group study of the correlation functions of the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain

K. Hallberg, Peter Horsch, Gerardo Martı́nez

We use the density-matrix renormalization-group technique developed by White to calculate the spin correlation functions 〈${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}+\mathit{l}}^{\mathit{z}}$ ${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}}^{\mathit{z}}$〉=(-1${)}^{\mathit{l}}$\ensuremath{\omega}(l,N) for isotropic Heisenberg rings up to N=70 sites. The correlation functions for large l and N are found to obey the scaling relation \ensuremath{\omega}(l,N)=\ensuremath{\omega}(l,\ensuremath{\infty})${\mathit{f}}_{\mathit{XY}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}$(l/N) proposed by Kaplan et al., which is used to determine \ensuremath{\omega}(l,\ensuremath{\infty}). The asymptotic correlation function \ensuremath{\omega}(l,\ensuremath{\infty}) and the magnetic structure factor S(q=\ensuremath{\pi}) show logarithmic corrections consistent with \ensuremath{\omega}(l,\ensuremath{\infty})\ensuremath{\sim}a\ensuremath{\surd}lncl /l, where c is related to the cut-off dependent coupling constant ${\mathit{g}}_{\mathrm{eff}}$(${\mathit{l}}_{0}$)=1/ln(${\mathit{cl}}_{0}$), as predicted by field theoretical treatments.

Exact Edge Singularities and Dynamical Correlations in Spin- 1 / 2 Chains

Rodrigo G. Pereira, Steven R. White, Ian K. Affleck

Exact formulas for the singularities of the dynamical structure factor, Szz(q,omega), of the S=1/2 xxz spin chain at all q and any anisotropy and magnetic field in the critical regime are derived, expressing the exponents in terms of the phase shifts which are known exactly from the Bethe ansatz solution. We also study the long-time asymptotics of the self-correlation function 0|Sjz(t)Sjz(0)|0. Utilizing these results to supplement very accurate time-dependent density matrix renormalization group, for short to moderate times, we calculate Szz(q,omega) to very high precision.

Finite-temperature dynamic structure factor of the spin-1 XXZ chain with single-ion anisotropy

Florian Lange, Satoshi Ejima, Holger Fehske

Improving matrix-product state techniques based on the purification of the density matrix, we are able to accurately calculate the finite-temperature dynamic response of the infinite spin-1 $\text{XXZ}$ chain with single-ion anisotropy in the Haldane, large-$D$, and antiferromagnetic phases. Distinct thermally activated scattering processes make a significant contribution to the spectral weight in all cases. In the Haldane phase, intraband magnon scattering is prominent, and the on-site anisotropy causes the magnon to split into singlet and doublet branches. In the large-$D$ phase response, the intraband signal is separated from an exciton-antiexciton continuum. In the antiferromagnetic phase, holons are the lowest-lying excitations, with a gap that closes at the transition to the Haldane state. At finite temperatures, scattering between domain-wall excitations becomes especially important and strongly enhances the spectral weight for momentum transfer $\ensuremath{\pi}$.

Exact two-spinon dynamic structure factor of the one-dimensional s=12 Heisenberg-Ising antiferromagnet

A. Hamid Bougourzi, Michael Karbach, Gerhard H. Muller

The exact two-spinon part of the dynamic spin structure factor ${S}_{\mathrm{xx}}(Q,\ensuremath{\omega})$ for the one-dimensional $s=1/2,$ $\mathrm{XXZ}$ model at $T=0$ in the antiferromagnetically ordered phase is calculated using recent advances in the algebraic analysis based on (infinite-dimensional) quantum group symmetries of this model and the related vertex models. The two-spinon excitations form a two-parameter continuum consisting of two partly overlapping sheets in $(Q,\ensuremath{\omega})$ space. The spectral threshold has a smooth maximum at the Brillouin zone boundary $(Q=\ensuremath{\pi}/2)$ and a smooth minimum with a gap at the zone center $(Q=0).$ The two-spinon density of states has square-root divergences at the lower and upper continuum boundaries. For the two-spinon transition rates, the two regimes $0<~Q<{Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}$ (near the zone center) and ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}<Q<~\ensuremath{\pi}/2$ (near the zone boundary) must be distinguished, where ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ in the Heisenberg limit and ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}/2$ in the Ising limit. In the regime ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}<Q<~\ensuremath{\pi}/2,$ the two-spinon transition rates relevant for ${S}_{\mathrm{xx}}(Q,\ensuremath{\omega})$ are finite at the lower boundary of each sheet, decrease monotonically with increasing \ensuremath{\omega}, and approach zero linearly at the upper boundary. The resulting two-spinon part of ${S}_{\mathrm{xx}}(Q,\ensuremath{\omega})$ is then square-root divergent at the spectral threshold and vanishes in a square-root cusp at the upper boundary. In the regime $0<{Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}<~\ensuremath{\pi}/2,$ in contrast, the two-spinon transition rates have a smooth maximum inside the continuum and vanish linearly at either boundary. In the associated two-spinon line shapes of ${S}_{\mathrm{xx}}(Q,\ensuremath{\omega}),$ the linear cusps at the continuum boundaries are replaced by square-root cusps. Existing perturbation studies have been unable to capture the physics of the regime ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}<Q<~\ensuremath{\pi}/2.$ However, their line-shape predictions for the regime $0<~Q<{Q}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}$ are in good agreement with the exact results if the anisotropy is very strong. For weak anisotropies, the exact line shapes are more asymmetric.

Evaluation of Dynamic Spin Structure Factor for the Spin-1/2 XXZ Chain in a Magnetic Field

Jun Sato, Masahiro Shiroishi, Minoru Takahashi

Transition rates and dynamic spin structure factor at zero temperature for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain at critical regime in a magnetic field are numerically evaluated in terms of the exact determinant representations for the form factors and norms of the Bethe eigenstates. We have seen that the transition rates converges toward the constant function with the value 1 in the limit delta -> 0. The observed critical exponent of the singularity at the lower boundary is compared with the one predicted from the comformal field theory. We confirm that they are in good agreement. Further we have discovered that a small peak emerges near the upper boundary in the line shape of S(q,omega) for 0
