The supersymmetrict-Jmodel with a boundary

Abstract

An open supersymmetric t - J chain with boundary fields is studied by means of the Bethe ansatz. Ground state properties for the case of an almost half-filled band and a bulk magnetic field are determined. Boundary susceptibilities are calculated as functions of the boundary fields. The effects of the boundary on excitations are investigated by constructing the exact boundary S-matrix. From the analytic structure of the boundary S-matrices one deduces that holons can form boundary bound states for sufficiently strong boundary fields.

Exactly solvable supersymmetric t−J model with boundary hoppings and fields

Igor N. Karnaukhov

The supersymmetric $t\text{\ensuremath{-}}J$ model with boundary hopping integrals and fields is proposed and solved exactly by means of the Bethe ansatz method. We find that for certain values of the boundary hopping integrals and fields the ground state contains boundary bound states, as new solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations in a charge sector called boundary charge strings. The boundary states define the thermodynamic properties of the boundary, such as the boundary charge, magnetic moment, that have been calculated numerically as a function of the magnetic field and chemical potential. We show that the boundary charge strings lead to a logarithmic divergent behavior of boundary magnetic moment in a weak magnetic field limit.

Exact solution of thet-Jmodel in one dimension at 2t=±J: Ground state and excitation spectrum

P.-A. Bares, G. Blatter, Masao Ogata

The one dimensional t-J Hamiltonian is diagonalized exactly for the supersymmetric case 2t=\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}J using the Bethe ansatz. In this limit it is identical with models previously considered by Lai, Sutherland, and Schlottmann. In the present paper we discuss the ground-state properties and excitation spectrum in zero magnetic field. The ground state is a liquid of singlet bonds with varying spatial separation. Its most remarkable feature is the presence of bonds connecting particles at arbitrarily large distances. The ground-state energy is an analytic function of the band filling. There is no difference in the chemical potential for adding one or two particles and no evidence for the binding of holes. The low-lying part of the spectrum consists of two types of gapless excitations (charge and spin) with effective Fermi surfaces at 2${\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{F}}$ and ${\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{F}}$, respectively. An interpretation of the energy spectrum in terms of spinons and holons is appropriate at low energies.

Boundary Bound States for the Open Hubbard Chain with Boundary Fields

Osamu Tsuchiya, Takashi Yamamoto

The boundary effects in the open Hubbard chain with boundary fields are studied. The boundary string solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations that give rise to a wave functions localized at the boundary and exponentially decreasing away from the boundary are provided. In particular, it is shown that the correct ground state of the model at half-filling contains the boundary strings.

Boundary impurities in the generalized supersymmetrict-Jmodel

Heng Fan, Miki Wadati, Rui-hong Yue

We study the generalized supersymmetric t - J model with impurities in the boundaries. We first construct the higher spin operator K -matrix for the XXZ Heisenberg chain. Setting the boundary parameter to be a special value, we find a higher spin reflecting K -matrix for the supersymmetric t - J model. By using the quantum inverse scattering method, we obtain the eigenvalue and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations.

Surface excitations and surface energy of the antiferromagneticXXZchain by the Bethe ansatz approach

Anton Kapustin, Sergei Skorik

We study boundary bound states using the Bethe ansatz formalism for the open chain in a boundary magnetic field h. Boundary bound states are represented by the `boundary strings' similar to those described in Skorik and Saleur. We find that for certain values of h the ground-state wavefunction contains boundary strings and from this infer the existence of two `critical' fields in agreement with Jimbo et al. An expression for the vacuum surface energy in the thermodynamic limit is derived and found to be an analytic function of h. We argue that boundary excitations appear only in pairs with `bulk' excitations or with boundary excitations at the other end of the chain. We mainly discuss the case where the magnetic fields at the left and the right boundaries are antiparallel, but we also comment on the case of parallel fields. In the Ising and isotropic limits our results agree with those previously known.

Boundary susceptibility in the openXXZ-chain

Michael Bortz, Jesko Sirker

In the first part we calculate the boundary susceptibility χ B in the open XXZ -chain at zero temperature and arbitrary magnetic field h by the Bethe ansatz. We present analytical results for the leading terms when | h | ≪ α, where α is a known scale, and a numerical solution for the entire range of fields. In the second part we calculate susceptibility profiles near the boundary at finite temperature T numerically by using the density-matrix renormalization group for transfer matrices and analytically for T ≪ 1 by field theoretical methods. Finally, we compare χ B at finite temperature with a low-temperature asymptotics which we obtain by combining our Bethe ansatz result with recent predictions from bosonization.
