Dynamic scaling behavior of an interacting monomer-dimer model

Abstract

We study the dynamic scaling behavior of a monomer-dimer model with repulsive itneractions between the same species in one dimension. With infinitely strong interactions the model exhibits a continuous transition from a reactive phase to an inactive phase with two equivalent absorbing states. This transition does not belong to the conventional directed percolation universality class. The values of dynamic scaling exponents are estimated by Monte Carlo simulations for two distinct initial configurations, one near an absorbing state and the other with an interface between two different absorbing states. We confirm that the critical behavior is consistent with that of the models with the mass conservation of modulo 2.

Critical behavior of an interacting monomer-dimer model

Nonequilibrium critical dynamics of two dimensional interacting monomer-dimer model: non-Ising criticality

Keekwon Nam, Bongsoo Kim, Sung Jong Lee

We investigate the nonequilibrium relaxation dynamics of an interacting monomer-dimer model with nearest neighbor repulsion on a square lattice, which possesses two symmetric absorbing states. The model is known to exhibit two nearby continuous transitions: the Z 2 symmetry-breaking order-disorder transition and the absorbing transition with directed percolation criticality. We performed a more detailed analysis of our extensive simulations on bigger lattice systems which reaffirms that the symmetry-breaking transition exhibits a non-Ising critical behavior with β ≃ 0.149(2) and η ≃ 0.30(1) that are distinct from those values of a pure two dimensional Ising model. Finite size scaling of dimer density near the symmetry breaking transition gives logarithmic scaling ( α = 0.0) which is consistent with the hyperscaling relation but the corresponding exponent of ν B ≃ 1.37(2) exhibits a conspicuous deviation from the pure Ising value of 1. The value of dynamic critical exponent z , however, is found to be close to that of the kinetic Ising model as 1/ z ≃ 0.466(5) from the relaxation of staggered magnetization (and also similar but slightly smaller values from coarsening).

Mean-field analysis and Monte Carlo study of an interacting two-species reaction model

Kevin Brown, Kevin E. Bassler, D. A. Browne

We study the phase diagram and critical behavior of an interacting one-dimensional two-species monomer-monomer catalytic surface reaction model with a reactive phase as well as two equivalent adsorbing phases where one of the species saturates the system. The model depends on two parameters: the relative adsorption rates of the two species and a repulsive interaction between like neighbors. A mean-field analysis including correlations up to triplets of sites fails to reproduce the phase diagram found by Monte Carlo simulations. The three phases coexist at a bicritical point whose critical behavior is described by the even branching annihilating random-walk universality class. This work confirms the hypothesis that the conservation modulo 2 of the domain walls under the dynamics at the bicritical point is the essential feature in producing critical behavior different from directed percolation. The interfacial fluctuations show the same universal behavior seen at the bicritical point in a three-species model, supporting the conjecture that these fluctuations are an additional universal characteristic of the model.

Two separate phase transitions in an interacting monomer-dimer model on a square lattice: non-Ising criticality and critical absorbing phase

Keekwon Nam, Sangwoong Park, Bongsoo Kim +1 more

We present a numerical study on an interacting monomer-dimer model with nearest neighbor repulsion on a square lattice, which possesses two symmetric absorbing states. The model is observed to exhibit two nearby continuous transitions: the $Z_2$ symmetry-breaking order-disorder transition and the absorbing transition with directed percolation criticality. We find that the symmetry-breaking transition shows a non-Ising critical behavior, and that the absorbing phase becomes critical, in the sense that the critical decay of the dimer density observed at the absorbing transition persists even within the absorbing phase. Our findings call for further studies on the microscopic models and corresponding continuum description belonging to the generalized voter universality class.

Relaxation of non-order parameter field in directed Ising systems

Heung Sik Park, Hyunggyu Park

We investigate the effect of initial conditions on the dynamic exponents of the interacting monomer-monomer model with infinitely many absorbing states in one dimension. This model exhibits a directed Ising (DI) type transition from an active phase into an absorbing phase. In case of the directed percolation universality class, it has been reported that the non-order parameter as well as the order parameter exhibits critical fluctuations, relaxing algebraically to its natural value with the same scaling exponents. We numerically confirm that this is also valid for the DI universality class. We also observe continuously varying dynamic exponents with a linear dependence on the non-order parameter initial density.
