Exact spectral gaps of the asymmetric exclusion process with open boundaries

Abstract

We derive the Bethe ansatz equations describing the complete spectrum of the transition matrix of the partially asymmetric exclusion process with the most general open boundary conditions. By analysing these equations in detail for the cases of totally asymmetric and symmetric diffusion, we calculate the finite-size scaling of the spectral gap, which characterizes the approach to stationarity at large times. In the totally asymmetric case we observe boundary induced crossovers between massive, diffusive and KPZ (Kardar–Parisi–Zhang) scaling regimes. We further study higher excitations, and demonstrate the absence of oscillatory behaviour at large times on the ‘coexistence line’, which separates the massive low and high density phases. In the maximum current phase, oscillations are present on the KPZ scale . While independent of the boundary parameters, the spectral gap as well as the oscillation frequency in the maximum current phase have different values compared to the totally asymmetric exclusion process with periodic boundary conditions. We discuss a possible interpretation of our results in terms of an effective domain wall theory.

Bethe Ansatz Solution of the Asymmetric Exclusion Process with Open Boundaries

Jan de Gier, Fabian H. L. Eßler

We derive the Bethe ansatz equations describing the complete spectrum of the transition matrix of the partially asymmetric exclusion process with the most general open boundary conditions. For totally asymmetric diffusion we calculate the spectral gap, which characterizes the approach to stationarity at large times. We observe boundary induced crossovers in and between massive, diffusive, and Kardar-Parisi-Zhang scaling regimes.

Slowest relaxation mode of the partially asymmetric exclusion process with open boundaries

Jan de Gier, Fabian H L Essler

We analyse the Bethe ansatz equations describing the complete spectrum of the transition matrix of the partially asymmetric exclusion process on a finite lattice and with the most general open boundary conditions. We extend results obtained recently for totally asymmetric diffusion (de Gier J and Essler F H L 2006 J. Stat. Mech. P12011) to the case of partial asymmetry. We determine the finite-size scaling of the spectral gap, which characterizes the approach to stationarity at late times, in the low- and high-density regimes and on the coexistence line. We observe boundary-induced crossovers and discuss possible interpretations of our results in terms of effective domain wall theories.

Spectral gaps of open TASEP in the maximal current phase

Ulysse Godreau, Sylvain Prolhac

Abstract We study spectral gaps of the one-dimensional totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) with open boundaries in the maximal current phase. Earlier results for the model with periodic boundaries suggest that the gaps contributing to the universal KPZ regime may be understood as points on an infinite genus Riemann surface built from a parametric representation of the cumulant generating function of the current. We perform explicit analytic continuations from the known large deviations of the current for open TASEP, and confirm the results for the gaps by an exact Bethe ansatz calculation, with additional checks using high precision extrapolation numerics.

Asymmetric exclusion model with impurities

Matheus J. Lazo, Anderson A. Ferreira

An integrable asymmetric exclusion process with impurities is formulated. The model displays the full spectrum of the stochastic asymmetric XXZ chain plus new levels. We derive the Bethe equations and calculate the spectral gap for the totally asymmetric diffusion at half filling. While the standard asymmetric exclusion process without impurities belongs to the KPZ universality class with an exponent 3/2, our model has a scaling exponent 5/3.
