Abstract

The extended Bose–Hubbard model in a quadratic trap potential is studied using a finite-size density-matrix renormalization group method (DMRG). We compute the boson density profiles, the local compressibility and the hopping correlation functions. We observe the phase separation induced by the trap in all the quantities studied and conclude that the local density approximation is valid in the extended Bose–Hubbard model. From the plateaus obtained in the local compressibility it was possible to obtain the phase diagram of the homogeneous system which is in agreement with previous results.

One-dimensional Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model in the heavy-fermion limit

Alexander Mering, Michael Fleischhauer

We study the phase diagram of the zero-temperature, one-dimensional Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model for fixed fermion density in the limit of small fermionic hopping. This model can be regarded as an instance of a disordered Bose-Hubbard model with dichotomic values of the stochastic variables. Phase boundaries between compressible, incompressible (Mott-insulating), and partially compressible phases are derived analytically within a generalized strong-coupling expansion and numerically using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) methods. We show that first-order correlations in the partially compressible phases decay exponentially, indicating a glass-type behavior. Fluctuations within the respective incompressible phases are determined using perturbation theory and are compared to DMRG results.

One-Dimensional Disordered Bosonic Hubbard Model: A Density-Matrix Renormalization Group Study

Ramesh V. Pai, Rahul Anil Pandit, H. R. Krishnamurthy +1 more

We use the density-matrix renormalization group to study the one-dimensional bosonic Hubbard model, with and without disorder. We obtain the gaps in all phases, certain correlation functions, and the superfluid density. A finite-size-scaling analysis enables us to obtain an accurate phase diagram and the $\ensuremath{\beta}$ function at the superfluid--Mott insulator transition and the Kosterlitz-Thouless essential singularity in the pure case. We also obtain coupling constants used in effective field theories for this system.

Cluster mean field plus density matrix renormalization theory for the Bose Hubbard models

Pallavi P. Gaude, Ananya Das, Ramesh V. Pai

Abstract The cluster mean-field with density matrix renormalization (CMFT + DMRG) method which combines the simplicity of the mean-field theory and the numerical power of the density-matrix renormalization group method is applied to understand the quantum phases of the one-dimensional Bose–Hubbard models. We show that the CMFT + DMRG method is an effective numerical technique with moderate computational resources to determine relevant order parameters and correlation functions of large one-dimensional systems. We apply the CMFT + DMRG for the Bose Hubbard and extended Bose Hubbard models to account for the superfluid, Mott insulator, and density wave phases in these models. Our results are in good agreement with the known phase diagram of these models, demonstrating the efficacy of this method.

SUPERSOLID PHASE IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL BOSE–HUBBARD MODEL WITH EXTENDED RANGE INTERACTIONS: DMRG AND FIELD THEORETIC STUDY AT DIFFERENT DENSITIES

Manoranjan Kumar, Sujit Sarkar, S. Ramasesha

We use the Density Matrix Renormalization Group and the Abelian bosonization method to study the effect of density on quantum phases of one-dimensional extended Bose–Hubbard model. We predict the existence of supersolid phase and also other quantum phases for this system. We have analyzed the role of extended range interaction parameters on solitonic phase near half-filling. We discuss the effects of dimerization in nearest neighbor hopping and interaction as well as next nearest neighbor interaction on the plateau phase at half-filling.

Quantum Phase Analysis of Extended Bose-Hubbard Model

Manoranjan Kumar, Sujit Sarkar, S. Ramasesha

We have obtained the quantum phase diagram of one dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group and Abelian bosonization methods for different commensurabilities. We describe the nature of different quantum phases at the charge degeneracy point. We find a direct phase transition from Mott insulating phase to superconducting phase for integer band fillings of bosons. We predict explicitly the presence of two kinds of repulsive Luttinger liquid phases, apart from the charge density wave and superconducting phases for half-integer band fillings. Our study reveals that extended range interactions are necessary to get the correct phase boundary of an one-dimensional interacting bosons system.

Superfluid, phase-separation, supersolid and density wave phases in extended Bose-Hubbard model

Pallavi P. Gaude, Ananya Das, Ramesh V. Pai

We study the one-dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model in incommensurate densities using the density matrix renormalization group with the mean-filed (CMFT+DMRG)and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) methods. We focus on the region of the phase diagram where onsite interaction (U) is smaller than the nearest-neighbor interaction (V). We determine the superfluid and the density wave order parameters to identify superfluid, phase-separated, supersolid, density wave phases, and obtain the phase diagram in the density-onsite interaction(ρ, U) plane for fixed nearest-neighbor interaction. The supersolid and phase-separation phases exist for a wide range of densities. The density ranges for which the phase-separation is seen shrinking with theincrease in the onsite interaction.
