Solitons in two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates

The excitations of a two-dimensional (2D) Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of a soliton are studied by solving the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation which is valid when the velocity of the soliton approaches the speed of sound. The excitation spectrum is found to contain states which are localized near the soliton and have a dispersion law similar to the one of the stable branch of transverse oscillations of a 1D gray soliton in a 2D condensate. By using the stabilization method we show that these localized excitations behave as resonant states coupled to the continuum of free excitations of the condensate.

Matter-wave solitons with a minimal number of particles in a time-modulated quasi-periodic potential

Salomon García-Paredes, Gennadiy N Burlak

The two-dimensional (2D) matter-wave soliton families supported by an external potential are systematically studied, in a vicinity of the junction between stable and unstable branches of the families. In this case the norm of the solution attains a minimum, facilitating the creation of such excitation. We study the dynamics and stability boundaries for fundamental solitons in a 2D self-attracting Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), trapped in an quasiperiodic optical lattice (OL), with the amplitude subject to periodic time modulation.

Self-organized stabilization of straight dark solitons in stripe supersolids

Anonymous, Hiroki Saito

Straight dark solitons in two-dimensional (2D) quantum fluids usually decay by transverse modulational instability, with no intrinsic suppression in contact-interacting Bose--Einstein condensates (BECs). We theoretically show that anisotropic long-range interactions in a quasi-2D dipolar BEC stabilize an embedded straight soliton, with spontaneous stripe order providing stronger pinning. The excitation spectra show that the lowest transverse solitonic branch remains gapped, while stripe-supersolid density modulation further hardens this branch and increases the soliton bending stiffness, penalizing transverse deformation. Accessible in current $^{166}$Er and $^{164}$Dy platforms, these results establish interaction-driven protection for straight dark solitons in structured quantum fluids.
