Calogero-Sutherland gas of ultracold Bose atoms

Abstract

We show that the Calogero-Sutherland (C-S) gas, a famous exact soluble one-dimensional system with an inverse square long range interaction, can be realized by dimension reduction in a cold Bose atom system with a dipole-dipole interaction. Depending on the orientation of the dipoles, the effective interaction is either attractive or repulsive. The low-lying effective theory may be a Luttinger liquid when the exclusion statistics parameter $λ$ may be well-defined. We hope that the C-S gas can be realized experimentally and the Luttinger liquid character can be observed.

Calogero-Sutherland-Lieb-Liniger gas in one-dimensional cold atoms

Yue Yu

We study an array of cigar-like Bose atom condensates confined in a cylinder and examine the competition between the dipole-dipole and the short range interactions. The system is effectively reduced to a one-dimensional boson one with a contact and inverse square interactions. We call this system the Calogero-Sutherland-Lieb-Liniger gas. The universal properties of the ground state are analyzed by the renormalization group theory. By using the bosonization techniques to the excluson gas, we calculate the non-universal exponent depending on the microscopic parameters. This exponent may be experimentally measurable.

Effects of dipole–dipole interaction between cigar-shaped BECs of cold alkali atoms: towards inverse-squared interactions

Yue Yu, Zhuxi Luo, Ziqiang Wang

We show that the dipole-dipole coupling between Wannier modes in cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) is significantly enhanced while the short-range coupling is strongly suppressed. As a result, the dipole-dipole interaction can become the dominant interaction between ultracold alkali Bose atoms. In the long length limit of a cigar-shaped BEC, the resulting effective one-dimensional models possess an effective inverse squared interacting potential, the Calogero-Sutherland potential, which plays a fundamental role in many fields of contemporary physics; but its direct experimental realization has been a challenge for a long time. We propose to realize the Calogero-Sutherland model in ultracold alkali Bose atoms and study the effects of the dipole-dipole interaction.

Exact quantum decay of an interacting many-particle system: the Calogero–Sutherland model

Adolfo del Campo

The exact quantum decay of a one-dimensional Bose gas with inverse-square interactions is presented. The system is equivalent to a gas of particles obeying generalized exclusion statistics. We consider the expansion dynamics of a cloud initially confined in a harmonic trap that is suddenly switched off. The decay is characterized by analyzing the fidelity between the initial and the time-evolving states, also known as the survival probability. It exhibits early on a quadratic dependence on time that turns into a power-law decay, during the course of the evolution. It is shown that the particle number and the strength of interactions determine the power-law exponent in the latter regime, as recently conjectured. The nonexponential character of the decay is linked to the many-particle reconstruction of the initial state from the decaying products.

Generalization of Tomonaga–Luttinger Liquids and the Calogero–Sutherland Model: Microscopic Models for the Haldane Liquids

Kazumoto Iguchi

We discuss the quantum many-body system interacting with a separately symmetric two-body potential in higher dimensions as a generalization of the Calogero–Sutherland model in one dimension. This system exhibits the properties of a Haldane liquid such as Haldane–Wu (i.e., fractional exclusion) statistics, broken particle–hole symmetry and the existence of pseudo-Fermi surface as a generalization of the cencept of Tomonaga–Luttinger liquids in one dimension.

Fractional Statistics in One-Dimension: View From An Exactly Solvable Model

One-dimensional fractional statistics is studied using the Calogero-Sutherland model (CSM) which describes a system of non-relativistic quantum particles interacting with inverse-square two-body potential on a ring. The inversesquare exchange can be regarded as a pure statistical interaction and this system can be mapped to an ideal gas obeying the fractional exclusion and exchange statistics. The details of the exact calculations of the dynamical correlation functions for this ideal system is presented in this paper. An effective low-energy one-dimensional "anyon" model is constructed; and its correlation functions are found to be in agreement with those in the CSM; and this agreement provides an evidence for the equivalence of the first-and the second-quantized construction of the 1D anyon model at least in the long wave-length limit.Furthermore, the finite-size scaling applicable to the conformally invariant systems is used to obtain the complete set of correlation exponents for the CSM.

Towards exact bosonization of the Calogero-Sutherland model

We demonstrate that the exact form-factors of the Calogero-Sutherland model which were recently found in [10] in confirmation of the congectures earlier made by Haldane (Ref. [9]) can be reproduced in the framework of some bosonization procedure in momentum space. This observation implies a possibility of an exact bosonization of this model describing one-dimensional anyons. 1 The Calogero-Sutherland (CS) model [1] of one-dimensional (1D) spinless particles with long-ranged 1/x 2 interaction ( V (x) = π2 λ(λ−1) L 2 (sin πx L)2 in a finite size L system) provides a remarkable example of an exactly solvable system which can be viewed as a continuous deformation away from either ideal Fermi or Bose gas. At special values λ = 1/2, 1 and 2 the original continuous model describes statistics of eigenvalues of random matrices belonging to one of the three Dyson’s ensembles. Recently
