Ground-State Phase Diagram of the XXZ Model on a Railroad–Trestle Lattice with Asymmetric Leg Interactions

Abstract

Using the bosonization and level spectroscopy methods, we study the ground-state phase diagram of a XXZ antiferromagnet on a railroad-trestle lattice with asymmetric leg interactions. It is shown that the asymmetry does not change the dimer/Neel transition line significantly, which agrees with the expectation based on a naive bosonization procedure, but it does change the dimer/spin-fluid transition line. To understand this observation, we analyze eigenvectors of the ground state, dimer excitation, doublet excitation and Neel excitation, and find that only the doublet excitation is affected by the asymmetric interaction.

The ground state of anXXZchain with asymmetric second-neighbour interactions

M Nakane, Yoshiyuki Fukumoto, Akihide Oguchi

The ground state phase diagram of an XXZ chain with asymmetric second-neighbour interactions is studied. We first prove that this model has the doubly degenerate exact dimer ground state under some conditions. Then, by using the level spectroscopy method, we calculate the ground state phase diagram and find that the dependence of the dimer–fluid critical line on the asymmetric interactions is much stronger than those of the dimer–Neel critical line and the ferro-fluid first-order transition line. In order to understand this result, we analyse eigenvectors of the ground state and excitations characterizing each of phases, and show that only the doublet excitation can be used to detect the asymmetric interactions.

Interacting bosons in generalized zigzag and railroad-trestle models

Sebastian Greschner, Tapan Mishra

We theoretically study the ground-state phase diagram of strongly interacting bosons on a generalized zigzag ladder model, the railroad-trestle (RRT) model. By means of analytical arguments in the limits of decoupled chains and the case of vanishing fillings as well as extensive DMRG calculations, we examine the rich interplay between frustration and interaction for various parameter regimes. We distinguish three different cases, the fully frustrated RRT model where the dispersion relation becomes doubly degenerate and an extensive chiral superfluid regime is found, the antisymmetric RRT with alternating $\ensuremath{\pi}$ and 0 fluxes through the ladder plaquettes and the sawtooth limit, which is closely related to the latter case. We study detailed phase diagrams which include besides different single-component superfluids, the chiral superfluid phases, the two component superfluids, and different gaped phases, with dimer and a charge-density wave order.

Thermodynamic Properties of the Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on a Railroad-Trestle Lattice with Asymmetric Leg Interactions

Shunsuke Takemura, Yoshiyuki Fukumoto

Using an approximation method for eigenvalue distribution functions, we study the temperature dependence of specific heat of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the asymmetric railroad-trestle lattice. This model contains both the sawtooth-lattice and Majumdar-Ghosh models as special cases. Making extrapolations to the thermodynamic limit using finite size data up to 28 spins, it is found that specific heat of the Majumdar-Ghosh model has a two-peak structure in its temperature dependence and those of systems near the sawtooth-lattice point have a three-peak structure.

Ground-state phase diagram of a spin- 1 2 frustrated XXZ ladder

Takuhiro Ogino, Ryui Kaneko, Satoshi Morita +1 more

We study the ground-state phase diagram of a spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ frustrated XXZ ladder, in which two antiferromagnetic chains are coupled by competing rung and diagonal interactions, ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}$ and ${J}_{\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}}$. Previous studies on the isotropic model have revealed that a fluctuation-induced effective dimer attraction between the legs stabilizes the columnar dimer (CD) phase in the highly frustrated regime ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}\ensuremath{\approx}2{J}_{\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}}$, especially for ferromagnetic ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp},\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}}<0$. By means of effective field theory and numerical analyses, we extend this analysis to the XXZ model, and we obtain a rich phase diagram. The diagram includes four gapped featureless phases with no symmetry breaking: the rung singlet (RS) and Haldane phases as well as their twisted variants, the RS* and Haldane* phases, which are all distinct in the presence of certain symmetries. Significantly, the Haldane-CD transition point in the isotropic model turns out to be a crossing point of two transition lines in the XXZ model, and the stripe N\'eel and RS* phases appear between these lines. This indicates a nontrivial interplay between the effective dimer attraction and the exchange anisotropy. In the easy-plane regime, the four featureless phases and two critical phases are found to compete in a complex manner depending on the signs of ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp},\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}}$.

Dimer XXZ Spin Ladders: Phase diagram and a Non-Trivial Antiferromagnetic Phase

Qi-Hui Chen, Long-Fei Guo, Peng Li

We study the dimer $XXZ$ spin model on two-leg ladders with isotropic Heisenberg interactions on the rung and anisotropic $XXZ$ interactions along the rail in an external field. Combining both analytical and numerical methods, we set up the ground state phase diagram and investigate the quantum phase transitions and the properties of rich phases, including the full polarized, singlet dimer, Luttinger liquid, triplon solid, and a non-trivial antiferromagnetic phases with gap. The analytical analyses based on solvable effective Hamiltonians are presented for clear view of the phases and transitions. Quantum Monte Carlo and exact diagonalization methods are employed on finite system to verify the exact nature of the phases and transitions. Of all the phases, we pay a special attention to the gapped antiferromagnetic phase, which is disclosed to be a non-trivial one that exhibits the time-reversal symmetry. We also discuss how our findings could be detected in experiment in the light of ultracold atoms technology advances.

Phase Diagram ofS=1/2 AntiferromagneticXXZChainwith Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interactions

K. Nomura, Kiyomi Okamoto

We numerically investigate the critical lines of the fluid-dimer and the Néel-dimer transitions of the S =1/2 antiferromagnetic XXZ chain with next-nearest interactions, assuming the asymptotic behavior to be determined by the quantum sine-Gordon model. Our result is different from that of Tonegawa, Harada and Kaburagi, who used the phenomenological renormalization group (PRG). We show that the PRG may lead to a false critical point when it is applied to the Kosterlitz-Thouless-type transition.
