Abstract

Mixing-demixing transition in one-dimensional mixtures of fermions and bosons is numerically investigated by changing various parameters such as number densities of each component, fermion-boson interactions, boson-boson interactions, and hopping energies. In most cases we found clear evidence of the mixing-demixing transitions and identified the roles of each microscopic parameter in the transitions. Several phase diagrams were obtained.

Mixing–Demixing Transition in 1D Boson–Fermion Mixture at Low Fermion Densities

Yousuke Takeuchi, 弘之 森

We numerically investigated the mixing-demixing transition of the boson-fermion mixture on a 1D lattice at an incommensurate filling with the fermion density being kept below the boson density. The phase diagram we obtained suggested that the decrease of the number of the fermions drove the system into the demixing phase.

MOTT TRANSITION IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL BOSON-FERMION MIXTURES

YOUSUKE TAKEUCHI, 弘之 森

We numerically investigated Mott transitions and mixing-demixing transitions in one-dimensional boson-fermion mixtures at a commensurate filling. The mixing-demixing transition occurred in a qualitatively similar manner to incommensurate filling cases. We also found the Mott insulator phase appeared in both the mixing and the demixing states as the fermion-boson interaction or the boson-boson interaction increased. Phase diagrams were obtained in interaction parameter space.

Collapse in Boson–Fermion Mixtures of Cold Atoms Trapped in One-Dimensional Space

Yousuke Takeuchi, 弘之 森

We numerically investigated the collapse of one-dimensional boson–fermion mixtures with fermion–boson attractive interactions. With Monte Carlo simulations, we observed spatial distributions of the particles and the behavior of several physical quantities to find the evidence of the collapse. With strong fermion–boson attractions and weak interboson repulsions, almost all the bosons and a part of the fermions were found to gather in a small space. In this collapse process we identified the role of each microscopic parameter such as boson number density, total number densities of the fermions and the bosons, and the interboson repulsion. We show a phase diagram to locate the collapsed phase in the parameter space of the interactions.

Continuous-matrix-product-state solution for the mixing-demixing transition in one-dimensional quantum fields

Fernando Quijandría, David Zueco

We solve the mixing-demixing transition in repulsive one-dimensional Bose-Bose mixtures. This is done numerically by means of the continuous matrix product states variational ansatz. We show that the effective low-energy bosonization theory is able to detect the transition whenever the Luttinger parameters are exactly computed. We further characterize the transition by calculating the ground-state energy density, the field-field fluctuations, and the density correlations.

Quantum-degenerate Bose-Fermi mixtures on one-dimensional optical lattices

Pinaki Sengupta, Leonid P. Pryadko

We study numerically and analytically the phases of a mixture of ultracold bosons and spin-polarized fermions in a one-dimensional lattice. In particular, along a symmetry plane in the parameter space, we obtain the exact boundary of the boson-demixing transition from the Bethe ansatz solution of the standard Hubbard model. For a region of parameter space, we prove the existence of boson-fermion mixed phase at all densities. This phase is a two-component Luttinger liquid for weak couplings or for incommensurate total density, otherwise it has a charge gap but retains a gapless mode of mixture composition fluctuations. We show that the static density correlations in these two regimes are markedly different.
