Abstract

We investigate the finite-size scaling exponents for the critical point at the shape-phase transition from U(5) (spherical) to O(6) (deformed \ensuremath{\gamma}-unstable) dynamical symmetries of the interacting boson model, making use of the Holstein-Primakoff boson expansion and the continuous unitary transformation technique. We compute exactly the leading-order correction to the ground-state energy, the gap, the expectation value of the d-boson number in the ground state and the $E2$ transition probability from the ground state to the first excited state and determine the corresponding finite-size scaling exponents.

Finite-Size Scaling Exponents of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Model

Sébastien Dusuel, Julien Vidal

We study the ground state properties of the critical Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model. Using the Holstein-Primakoff boson representation, and the continuous unitary transformation technique, we compute explicitly the finite-size scaling exponents for the energy gap, the ground state energy, the magnetization, and the spin-spin correlation functions. Finally, we discuss the behavior of the two-spin entanglement in the vicinity of the phase transition.

Continuous unitary transformations in two-level boson systems

Sébastien Dusuel, Julien Vidal, J. M. Arias +2 more

Two-level boson systems displaying a quantum phase transition from a spherical (symmetric) to a deformed (broken) phase are studied. A formalism to diagonalize Hamiltonians with $O(2L+1)$ symmetry for large number of bosons is worked out. Analytical results beyond the simple mean-field treatment are deduced by using the continuous unitary transformations technique. In this scheme, a $1/N$ expansion for different observables is proposed and allows one to compute the finite-size scaling exponents at the critical point. Analytical and numerical results are compared and reveal the power of the present approach to compute the finite-size corrections in such a context.

Finite-size scaling exponents in the Dicke model

Julien Vidal, S Dusuel

We consider the finite-size corrections in the Dicke model and determine the scaling exponents at the critical point for several quantities such as the ground-state energy or the gap. Therefore, we use the Holstein-Primakoff representation of the angular momentum and introduce a canonical transformation to diagonalize the Hamiltonian in the normal phase. As already observed in several systems, these corrections turn out to be singular at the transition point and thus lead to nontrivial exponents. We show that for the atomic observables, these exponents are the same as in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, in agreement with numerical results. We also investigate the behavior of the order parameter related to the radiation mode and show that it is driven by the same scaling variable as the atomic one.

Quantum phase transitions in the U(5)–O(6) large-N limit

Feng Pan, Yu Zhang, Jerry Paul Draayer

The U (5)– O (6) transitional behaviour of the interacting Boson model in the large- N limit is revisited. Some low-lying energy levels, overlaps of the ground state wavefunctions, B ( E 2) transition rate for the decay of the first excited energy level to the ground state, and the order parameters are calculated for different total numbers of bosons. The results show that critical behaviours of these quantities are greatly enhanced with an increase in the total number of bosons N ; in particular, the fractional occupation probability for d bosons in the ground state, the difference between the expectation value of n d in the first excited 0 + state and the ground state, and another quantity related to the isomer shift behave similarly in both the O (6)– U (5) large- N and U (5)– SU (3) phase transitions.

Scaling properties of quantum shape phase transitions in the interacting boson model-1

Elizabeth T. Williams, R. J. Casperson, Volker Werner

The evolution of system observables at critical points of quantum phase transitions in atomic nuclei is explored within the context of the interacting boson model-1. The evolution of energies and transition strengths in the ground state band at the infinite-size critical point are examined with respect to system size. Properties of first-order phase transitions away from the U(5)-SU(3) leg of the Casten triangle are examined, and the effects of angular momentum on the evolution of system observables at the critical point are investigated for the first time.

Energy level statistics of the U(5) and O(6) symmetries in the interacting boson model

Jing Shu, Ying Ran, Tao Ji +1 more

We study the energy level statistics of the states in U(5) and O(6) dynamical symmetries of the interacting boson model and the high spin states with backbending in U(5) symmetry. In the calculations, the degeneracy resulting from the additional quantum number is eliminated manually. The calculated results indicate that the finite boson number N effect is prominent. When N has a value close to a realistic one, increasing the interaction strength of subgroup O(5) makes the statistics vary from Poisson type to Gaussian orthogonal ensemble type and further recover to Poisson type. However, in the case of $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{N}\ensuremath{\infty},$ they all tend to be Poisson type. The fluctuation property of the energy levels with backbending in high spin states in U(5) symmetry involves a signal of shape-phase transition between spherical vibration and axial rotation.
