Ageing and dynamical scaling in the critical Ising spin glass

Abstract

The non-equilibrium ageing behaviour of the 3D and 4D critical Ising spin glass is studied for both binary and gaussian disorder. The same phenomenology of the time-dependent scaling as in non-disordered magnets is found but the non-equilibrium exponents and the universal limit fluctuation-dissipation ratio depend on the distribution of the coupling constants.

Spin Systems far from Equilibrium: Aging and Dynamic Phase Transition

Hyunhang Park

Among the many non-equilibrium processes encountered in nature we deal with two different but related aspects. One is the non-equilibrium relaxation process that is at the origin of \'aging phenomena••, and the other one is a non-equilibrium phase transition, called ••dynamic phase transition••. One of the main purposes of our research is to explore more realistic situations than studied previously. Indeed, in the study of aging phenomena certain kinds of disorder effects are considered, and we introduce the ••surface•• as a spatial boundary to the system undergoing the dynamic phase transition. In order to observe these processes as clearly as possible, we study in both cases simple spin systems. Using Monte Carlo simulations we first investigate aging in three-dimensional Ising spin glasses as well as in two-dimensional Ising models with disorder quenched to low temperatures. The time-dependent dynamical correlation length L(t) is determined numerically and the scaling behavior of various two-time quantities as a function of L(t)/L(s) is discussed where t and s are two different times. For disordered Ising models deviations of L(t) from algebraic growth law show up. The generalized scaling forms as a function of L(t)/L(s) reveal a generic simple aging scenario for Ising spin glasses as well as for disordered Ising ferromagnets. We also study the local critical phenomena at a dynamic phase transition by means of numerical simulations of kinetic Ising models with surfaces subjected to a periodic oscillating field. We examine layer-dependent quantities, such as the period-averaged magnetization per layer Q(z) and the layer susceptibility ¥ö(z), and determine local critical exponents through finite size scaling. Both for two and three dimensions, we find that the values of the surface exponents differ from those of the equilibrium critical surface. It is revealed that the surface phase diagram of the non-equilibrium system is not identical to that of the equilibrium system in three dimensions.

Universal dynamic scaling in three-dimensional Ising spin glasses

Cheng-Wei Liu, Anatoli Polkovnikov, Anders W. Sandvik +1 more

We use a nonequilibrium Monte Carlo simulation method and dynamical scaling to study the phase transition in three-dimensional Ising spin glasses. The transition point is repeatedly approached at finite velocity v (temperature change versus time) in Monte Carlo simulations starting at a high temperature. This approach has the advantage that the equilibrium limit does not have to be strictly reached for a scaling analysis to yield critical exponents. For the dynamic exponent we obtain z=5.85(9) for bimodal couplings distribution and z=6.00(10) for the Gaussian case. Assuming universal dynamic scaling, we combine the two results and obtain z=5.93±0.07 for generic 3D Ising spin glasses.

Ageing and non-equilibrium critical phenomena in Monte Carlo simulations

Vladimir V. Prudnikov, Pavel Vladimirovich Prudnikov

It is considered the non-equilibrium critical evolution of statistical systems which displays some features, such as ageing and violation of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. We review here some theoretical results of computations that have been obtained in recent years for universal quantities, such as the exponents determining the scaling behaviour of dynamic response and correlation functions and the fluctuation-dissipation ratio, associated with the non-equilibrium critical dynamics, with particular focus on the 3D pure and diluted Ising models with Glauber dynamics. We analyse an influence of critical fluctuations, different non-equilibrium initial states and presence of nonmagnetic impurities in spin systems on two-time dependence of correlation and response functions on characteristic time variables as waiting time t w and time of observation t – t w with t > t w . We discuss the obtained values of non-equilibrium exponents for autocorrelation and response functions and values of the universal long-time limit of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio X ∞ . Analysis of simulation results show that the insertion of disorder leads to new values of X ∞ with X ∞ diluted > X ∞ pure .

The Ising Spin Glass in dimension four; non-universality

P. H. Lundow, Ian A. Campbell

Extensive simulations are made on Ising Spin Glasses (ISG) with Gaussian, Laplacian and bimodal interaction distributions in dimension four. Standard finite size scaling analyses near and at criticality provide estimates of the critical inverse temperatures $β_c$, critical exponents, and critical values of a number of dimensionless parameters. Independent estimates are obtained for $β_c$ and the exponent $ν$ from thermodynamic derivative peak data. A detailed explanation is given of scaling in the thermodynamic limit with the ISG scaling variable $τ= 1-β^2/β_c^2$ and the appropriate scaling expressions. Data over the entire paramagnetic range of temperatures are analysed in order to obtain further estimates of the critical exponents together with correction to scaling terms. The Privman-Fisher ansatz then leads to compact scaling expressions for the whole paramagnetic regime and for all sample sizes L. Comparisons between the 4d ISG models show that the critical dimensionless parameters characteristic of a universality class, and the susceptibility and correlation length critical exponents $γ$ and $ν$, depend on the form of the interaction distribution. From these observations it can be deduced that critical exponents are not universal in ISGs, at least in dimension four.

Influence of disorder on ageing and memory effects in non-equilibrium critical dynamics of 3D Ising model relaxing from an ordered state

Vladimir V. Prudnikov, Pavel Vladimirovich Prudnikov, Evgenii A. Pospelov

Abstract We have performed a numerical investigation of the influence of disorder on the dynamical non-equilibrium evolution of a 3D site-diluted Ising model from a low-temperature initial state with magnetization m 0 = 1. It is shown that two-time dependences of the autocorrelation and integrated response functions for systems with spin concentrations p = 1.0, 0.95, 0.8, 0.6 and 0.5 demonstrate ageing properties with anomalous slowing-down relaxation and violation of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio. It was revealed that during non-equilibrium critical dynamics in the long-time regime t − t w ≫ t w ≫ 1 the autocorrelation functions for diluted systems are extremely slow due to the pinning of domain walls on impurity sites. We have found that the fluctuation-dissipation ratio X ∞ = 0 for diluted systems with spin concentration p < 1 while the pure system is characterized by X ∞ = 0.784 ( 7 ) . The autocorrelation function power-law delay becomes the same as for the time dependence of the magnetization in the critical point and is characterized by exponent − β / z ν . Also, for diluted systems we reveal memory effects for critical evolution in the ageing regime with realization of cyclic temperature change and quenching at T < T c .

Non-Equilibrium Dynamics and Aging in the Three-Dimensional Ising Spin-Glass Model

Heiko Rieger

The low temperature dynamics of the three dimensional Ising spin glass in zero field with a discrete bond distribution is investigated via MC simulations. The thermoremanent magnetization is found to decay algebraically and the temperature dependent exponents agree very well with the experimentally determined values. The nonequilibrium autocorrelation function C(t,tw) shows a crossover at the waiting (or aging) time tw from algebraic quasi-equilibrium decay for times t≪tw to another, faster algebraic decay for t≫tw with an exponent similar to one for the remanent magnetization.
