Two-time autocorrelation function in phase-ordering kinetics from local scale invariance

Abstract

The time-dependent scaling of the two-time autocorrelation function of spin systems without disorder undergoing phase-ordering kinetics is considered. Its form is shown to be determined by an extension of dynamical scaling to a local scale invariance which turns out to be a new version of conformal invariance. The predicted autocorrelator is in agreement with Monte Carlo data on the autocorrelation function of the 2D kinetic Ising model with Glauber dynamics quenched to a temperature below criticality.

Autocorrelation functions in phase-ordering kinetics from local scale invariance

Malte Henkel, Florian Baumann

The explicit calculation of the scaling form of the two-time autocorrelation function in phase-ordering kinetics and in those cases of non-equilibrium critical dynamics where the dynamical exponent z = 2 through the extension of dynamical scaling to local scale invariance is reviewed. Conceptually, this mainly requires an extension from the usually considered d -dimensional ageing or Schrödinger algebras to a new kind of representation of the conformal algebra in d + 2 dimensions. Explicit tests in several exactly solved models of simple magnets and through simulations in the 2D Ising and q -states Potts models ( q = 2, 3, 8) quenched to T < T c are presented and the extension to systems with non-equilibrium steady states is discussed through two exactly solvable models as well. In the context of surface growth models, possible generalizations for a dynamical exponent z = 4 and beyond are discussed.

Phase-ordering kinetics of two-dimensional disordered Ising models

Baumann, Florian, Malte Henkel, Michel Pleimling

The phase-ordering kinetics of the ferromagnetic two-dimensional Ising model with uniform disorder is investigated by intensive Monte Carlo simulations. Taking into account finite-time corrections to scaling, simple ageing behaviour is observed in the two-time responses and correlators. The dynamical exponent z and the form of the scaling functions only depend on the ratio eps/T, where eps describes the width of the distribution of the disorder. The agreement of the predictions of local scale-invariance generalised to z<> 2 for the two-time scaling functions of response and correlations with the numerical data provides a direct test of generalised Galilei-invariance.

Dynamical response function of the disordered kinetic Ising model

Haye Hinrichsen B

Recently Baumann et al (2007 Preprint 0709.3228v1) studied the phase-ordering kinetics of the two-dimensional Ising model for T < T c with uniform spatially quenched disorder by Monte Carlo simulations. They found that the two-time response and correlation functions are in agreement with the predictions of local scale invariance generalized to . The present paper shows why this is actually not true and suggests an alternative approach which leads to a much better agreement with the numerical results.

Aging and conformal invariance

Malte Henkel, Michel Pleimling, Claude Godrèche +1 more

In situations such as phase ordering or non-equilibrium critical dynamics, the two-time autoresponse function scales as $R(t,s)\\approx s^{-1-a} F_2(t/s)$, where $a$ is a known exponent. For any value of the dynamical exponent $z$, we argue that this dynamical scaling can be extended towards conformal invariance. Thus the scaling function $F_2$ is determined. This prediction is confirmed by several examples, both for $T<T_c$ and at $T=T_c$: the two- and three-dimensional kinetic Ising model with Glauber dynamics is studied numerically, while exact results are available for the kinetic spherical model with a non-conserved order parameter, both for short-ranged and long-ranged interactions, as well as for the mean-field spherical spin glass.

Monte Carlo Investigation of Dynamic Critical Phenomena in the Two-Dimensional Kinetic Ising Model

E. Stoll, Kurt Binder, T. Schneider

Extending the Monte Carlo method to dynamic critical phenomena we investigated the time-dependent correlation functions in the two-dimensional one-spin-flip Ising model and the critical behavior of the associated relaxation times. These relaxation times are the following: ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\Delta}T}$, characterizing the approach of the order parameter to equilibrium after a change of temperature $\ensuremath{\Delta}T$ of the system; ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{A}$ characterizing the slowing down of the order-parameter correlation and autocorrelation functions, respectively; ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}$, characterizing the slowing down of the energy correlation and autocorrelation functions; and finally ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}$, characterizing the cross-correlation function. We give estimates for the associated exponents ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\Delta}T}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}\ensuremath{\approx}1.90\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}1.60\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}0.95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}0$, which are consistent with the dynamic scaling hypothesis and with exact inequalities. A detailed comparison with recent high-temperature-expansion estimates is performed, and the reliability of the Monte Carlo results is carefully analyzed.

Correlators in phase-ordering from Schrodinger-invariance

Malte Henkel, Stoimen Stoimenov

Systems undergoing phase-ordering kinetics after a quench into the ordered phase with 0 < T < T c from a fully disordered initial state and with a non-conserved order-parameter have the dynamical exponent z = 2 . The long-time behaviour of their single-time and two-time correlators, determined by the noisy initial conditions, is derived from Schrödinger-invariance. It is shown that the generic ageing scaling forms of the single-time and two-time correlators follow from the Schrödinger-covariance of the four-point response functions. The autocorrelation exponent λ is related to the passage exponent ζ p which describes the time-scale for the cross-over into the ageing regime. Both Porod’s law and the bounds d / 2 ≤ λ ≤ d are reproduced in a simple way. The dynamical finite-size scaling in fully finite systems is established. The dynamical scaling of global correlators are found and the low-temperature generalisation λ = d − 2 Θ of the Janssen-Schaub-Schmittmann scaling relation is derived.

In situations such as phase ordering or non-equilibrium critical dynamics, the two-time autoresponse function scales as R(t,s)approxs−1−aF2(t/s)R(t,s)\\approx s^{-1-a} F_2(t/s)R(t,s)approxs−1−aF2(t/s), where aaa is a known exponent. For any value of the dynamical exponent zzz, we argue that this dynamical scaling can be extended towards conformal invariance. Thus the scaling function F2F_2F2 is determined. This prediction is confirmed by several examples, both for T<TcT<T_cT<Tc and at T=TcT=T_cT=Tc: the two- and three-dimensional kinetic Ising model with Glauber dynamics is studied numerically, while exact results are available for the kinetic spherical model with a non-conserved order parameter, both for short-ranged and long-ranged interactions, as well as for the mean-field spherical spin glass.
