Abstract

We present exact results on the thermal conductivity of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ model in the massive antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic regimes. The thermal Drude weight is calculated by a lattice path integral formulation. Numerical results for wide ranges of temperature and anisotropy as well as analytical results in the low- and high-temperature limits are presented. At finite temperature, the thermal Drude weight is finite and hence there is non-dissipative thermal transport even in the massive regime. At low temperature, the thermal Drude weight behaves as where δ is the one-spinon (respectively one-magnon) excitation energy for the antiferromagnetic (respectively ferromagnetic) regime.

The thermal conductivity of the spin-½ XXZ chain at arbitrary temperature

Andreas Klümper, Kazumitsu Sakai

Motivated by recent investigations of transport properties of strongly correlated 1D models and thermal conductivity measurements of quasi 1D magnetic systems, we present results for the integrable spin-½ XXZ chain. The thermal conductivity κ(ω) of this model has ℜ κ(ω) = δ(ω), i.e. it is infinite for zero frequency ω. The weight of the delta peak is calculated exactly by a lattice path integral formulation. Numerical results for wide ranges of temperature and anisotropy are presented. The low- and high-temperature limits are studied analytically.

Thermal transport of the XXZ chain in a magnetic field

Fabian Heidrich‐Meisner, A. Honecker, W. Brenig

We study the heat conduction of the spin-$1∕2$ $XXZ$ chain in finite magnetic fields where magnetothermal effects arise. Due to the integrability of this model, all transport coefficients diverge, signaled by finite Drude weights. Using exact diagonalization and mean-field theory, we analyze the temperature and field dependence of the thermal Drude weight for various exchange anisotropies under the condition of zero magnetization-current flow. First, we find a strong magnetic field dependence of the Drude weight, including a suppression of its magnitude with increasing field strength and a nonmonotonic field-dependence of the peak position. Second, for small exchange anisotropies and magnetic fields in the massless as well as in the fully polarized regime, the mean-field approach is in excellent agreement with the exact diagonalization data. Third, at the field-induced quantum critical line between the para- and ferromagnetic region, we propose a universal low-temperature behavior of the thermal Drude weight.

Zero-frequency transport properties of one-dimensional spin- 12 systems

We report a detailed analysis of the Drude weights for both thermal and spin transport in one-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ systems by means of exact diagonalization and analytic approaches at finite temperatures. Transport properties are studied first for the integrable $\mathrm{XXZ}$ model and second for various nonintegrable systems such as the dimerized chain, the frustrated chain, and the spin ladder. We compare our results obtained by exact diagonalization and mean-field theory with those of the Bethe ansatz, bosonization, and other numerical studies in the case of the anisotropic Heisenberg model both in the gapless and gapped regime. In particular, we find indications that the Drude weight for spin transport is finite in the thermodynamic limit for the isotropic chain. For the nonintegrable models, a finite-size analysis of the numerical data for the Drude weights is presented, covering the entire parameter space of the dimerized and frustrated chain. We also discuss which conclusions can be drawn from bosonization regarding the question of whether the Drude weights are finite or not. One of our main results is that the Drude weights vanish in the thermodynamic limit for nonintegrable models.

Spin conductivity of the XXZ chain in the antiferromagnetic massive regime

Frank Göhmann, Karol Kajetan Kozlowski, Jesko Sirker +1 more

We present a series representation for the dynamical two-point function of the local spin current for the XXZ chain in the antiferromagnetic massive regime at zero temperature. From this series we can compute the correlation function with very high accuracy up to very long times and large distances. Each term in the series corresponds to the contribution of all scattering states of an even number of excitations. These excitations can be interpreted in terms of an equal number of particles and holes. The lowest term in the series comprises all scattering states of one hole and one particle. This term determines the long-time large-distance asymptotic behaviour which can be obtained explicitly from a saddle-point analysis. The space-time Fourier transform of the two-point function of currents at zero momentum gives the optical spin conductivity of the model. We obtain highly accurate numerical estimates for this quantity by numerically Fourier transforming our data. For the one-particle, one-hole contribution, equivalently interpreted as a two-spinon contribution, we obtain an exact and explicit expression in terms of known special functions. For large enough anisotropy, the two-spinon contribution carries most of the spectral weight, as can be seen by calculating the f-sum rule.

Spin transport on the integrable XXZ chain

Shinya Ae

Using the Bethe ansatz method and generalized hydrodynamics (GHD), properties of the spin transport is analyzed for the integrable XXZ chain with the anisotropy 0 ≤ ∆ < 1.Our approach starts from reconstructing the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin.We obtain the fusion hierarchy of the quantum transfer matrices (T -functions) in the arbitrary spin case, and we derive functional relations (T -and Y -systems) satisfied by the T -functions and certain combinations of them (Y -functions).Through analytical arguments, the Y -system is reduced to a set of non-linear integral equations, equivalent to the TBA equations. At first, we use the TBA equations for some higher-spin chains in order to examine the regular zero frequency contribution to the spin current correlation (spin dc conductivity) for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain. In the high temperature limit, we write down the dressed scattering kernels by one quasi-particle bare energies and exactly obtain the spin dc conductivity at zero magnetic field, which is proportional to the inverse temperature β at the β → 0 limit. We find that the high temperature proportionality constant σ reg 0 of the spin dc conductivity is discontinuous at all rational numbers of the anisotropy parameter p 0 = π/ cos -1 ∆ ≥ 2 with the gap increasing larger than the second power of growing magnetization on one quasiparticle. The isotropic ∆ = 1 point is exceptional.Close to this point, σ reg 0 slowly increases in proportion to the first power of the one quasi-particle magnetization. On the other hand, σ reg 0 is proportional to the second power of the same when p 0 approaches irrational numbers. At second, we examine the finite-temperature spin Drude weight for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin, where GHD methods are employed. We calculate the spin Drude weight at zero magnetic field, and we find a characteristic fractal-like structure of the Drude weight at arbitrary spin across a broad range of temperatures, similar to the spin-1/2 case.In our approach, the solutions to the TBA equations (i.e., the Y -functions) can be explicitly written in terms of the T -functions, thus allowing for a systematic calculation of the hightemperature limit of the Drude weight, as well as the spin dc conductivity in the spin 1/2 case. Thermal Conductivity of the One-Dimensional Fermi-Hubbard Model

Christoph Karrasch, Dante Marvin Kennes, Fabian Heidrich‐Meisner

We study the thermal conductivity of the one-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard model at a finite temperature using a density matrix renormalization group approach. The integrability of this model gives rise to ballistic thermal transport. We calculate the temperature dependence of the thermal Drude weight at half filling for various interaction strengths. The finite-frequency contributions originating from the fact that the energy current is not a conserved quantity are investigated as well. We report evidence that breaking the integrability through a nearest-neighbor interaction leads to vanishing Drude weights and diffusive energy transport. Moreover, we demonstrate that energy spreads ballistically in local quenches with initially inhomogeneous energy density profiles in the integrable case. We discuss the relevance of our results for thermalization in ultracold quantum-gas experiments and for transport measurements with quasi-one-dimensional materials.
