Simple model of anisotropic pairing with repulsive interactions

Abstract

A simple tight binding model with repulsive interactions is studied. The inclusion of more than one orbital per site leads to assisted hopping effects, and, when the orbitals involved have different symmetries, to an anisotropic superconducting phase. Superconductivity exists for all fillings, and for all values of the on site repulsion.

An extended Hubbard model with inter-site attraction in two dimensions and high-Tcsuperconductivity

R. Micnas, J. Ranninger, S. Robaszkiewicz

The authors study a simple model for superconductivity based on an extended Hubbard model with on-site repulsive and inter-site attractive interaction for arbitrary electron density. The two-dimensional square lattice d-wave pairing is most stable for a nearly half-filled band. p-wave and then extended s-wave pairing become stable upon decreasing band filling. Competition between the various anisotropic pairings and antiferromagnetism as well as the effect of next-nearest-neighbour hopping is discussed. The authors relate the present model to high-T c superconducting oxides.

A Simple Mechanism for High-Temperature Superconductivity in a Repulsive Fermion Model

Kevin Slagle, Yong Baek Kim

We introduce a simple tight-binding lattice model of fermions with repulsive interactions that exhibits unconventional superconductivity. The Cooper pairing arises from a simple 4-site fermion model with repulsive interactions. In the strong coupling limit, the model reduces to a superconducting hard-core Bose-Hubbard model. Above the superconducting critical temperature, an analog of pseudo-gap physics results where the fermions remain Cooper paired with a large single-particle energy gap.

Superconductivity in the Hubbard model with pair hopping

S. Robaszkiewicz, Bogdan R. Bułka

The phase diagrams and superconducting properties of the extended Hubbard model with pair hopping interaction, i.e., the Penson-Kolb-Hubbard model are studied. The analysis of the model is performed for d-dimensional hypercubic lattices, including $d=1$ and $d=\ensuremath{\infty},$ by means of the (broken symmetry) Hartree-Fock approximations and, for $d=\ensuremath{\infty},$ by the slave-boson mean-field method. For $d=1,$ at half filling the phase diagram is shown to consist of nine different phases including two superconducting states with center-of-mass momentum $q=0$ and $q=Q$ $(\ensuremath{\eta}$ pairing), site and bond-located antiferromagnetic and charge-density wave states as well as three mixed phases with coexisting site and bond orderings. The stability range of the bond-type orderings shrinks with increasing lattice dimensionality d and for $d=\ensuremath{\infty}$ the corresponding diagram consists of four phases only, involving exclusively site-located orderings. Comparing the pair hopping model with the attractive Hubbard model we found in both cases gradual evolution from the BCS-like limit to the tightly bound pairs regime and a monotonic increase of the gap in the excitation spectrum with increasing coupling. However, the dynamics of electron pairs in both models is qualitatively different, which results in different dependences of condensation energies and critical temperatures on interaction parameters as well as in different electrodynamic properties, especially in a strong coupling regime.

Superconductivity in the Repulsive Hubbard Model on Different Geometries Induced by Density-Assisted Hopping

Anonymous, E. Orignac, R. Citro +2 more

We study the effect of density-assisted hopping on different dimerized lattice geometries, such as bilayers and ladder structures. We show analytically that the density-assisted hopping induces an attractive interaction in the lower (bonding) band of the dimer structure and a repulsion in the upper (antibonding) band. Overcoming the on-site repulsion, this can lead to the appearance of superconductivity with a pairing structure more complex than s-wave pairing. Combining numerical and analytical methods such as the matrix product states ansatz, bosonization, and perturbative calculations, we map out the phase diagram of the two-leg ladder system and identify its superconducting phase. We characterize the transition from the non-density-assisted repulsive regime to the spin-gapped superconducting regime as a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition.

SUPERCONDUCTING ORDER PARAMETERS IN THE EXTENDED HUBBARD MODEL: A SIMPLE MEAN-FIELD STUDY

J. S. Thakur, Mrinmay Das

The extended Hubbard model with nearest neighbor hopping and intersite interaction for a 2D square lattice has been studied within the frame work of a simple mean-field formalism. The self-consistent solutions of superconducting order parameters have been obtained for various fillings. The results indicate that superconducting pairing occurs on doping for the repulsive on-site U and attractive nearest neighbor V.

Extended Hubbard model with unconventional pairing in two dimensions

Akinori Tanaka, Masanori Yamanaka

We rigorously prove that an extended Hubbard model with attraction in two dimensions has an unconventional pairing ground state for any electron filling. The anisotropic spin-0 or anisotropic spin-1 pairing symmetry is realized, depending on a phase parameter characterizing the type of local attractive interactions. In both cases the ground state is unique. It is also shown that in a special case, where there are no electron-hopping terms, the ground state has Ising-type N\'eel order at half-filling, when on-site repulsion is furthermore added. Physical applications are mentioned.
