Abstract

We investigate the large- N behaviour of the complex solutions for the two-magnon system in the S = 1/2 Heisenberg XXZ model. The Bethe ansatz equations are numerically solved for the string solutions with a new iteration method. Clear evidence of the violation of the string configurations is found at N = 22, 62, 121, 200, 299, 417, but the broken states are still Bethe states. The number of Bethe states is consistent with the exact diagonalization, except for one singular state.

In this paper we count the numbers of real and complex solutions to Bethe constraints in the two-particle sector of the $\mathrm{XXZ}$ model. We find the exact number of exceptions to the string conjecture and total number of solutions that is required for completeness.

Exact quantum numbers of collapsed and non-collapsed two-string solutions in the spin-1/2 Heisenberg spin chain

Tetsuo Deguchi, Pulak Ranjan Giri

Abstract Every solution of the Bethe-ansatz equations (BAEs) is characterized by a set of quantum numbers, by which we can evaluate it numerically. However, no general rule is known how to give quantum numbers for the physical solutions of BAE. For the spin-1/2 XXX chain we rigorously derive all the quantum numbers for the complete set of the Bethe-ansatz eigenvectors in the two down-spin sector with any chain length N . Here we obtain them both for real and complex solutions. We also show that all the solutions associated with them are distinct. Consequently, we prove the completeness of the Bethe ansatz and give an exact expression for the number of real solutions which correspond to collapsed bound-state solutions (i.e., two-string solutions) in the sector: in terms of Gauss’ symbol. Moreover, we prove in the sector the scheme conjectured by Takahashi for solving BAE systematically. We also suggest that by applying the present method we can derive the quantum numbers for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain.

Exact regimes of collapsed and extra two-string solutions in the two down-spin sector of the spin-1/2 massive XXZ spin chain

Takashi Imoto, Jun Sato, Tetsuo Deguchi

Abstract We derive exactly the number of complex solutions with two down-spins in the massive regime of the periodic spin-1/2 XXZ spin chain of sites. Here we remark that every solution of the Bethe ansatz equations is characterized by a set of quantum numbers. We derive them analytically for all the complex solutions in the sector, which we call two-string solutions. We show that in a region of and the number of two-string solutions is by two larger than the number due to the string hypothesis, i.e. an extra pair of two-strings appears. We determine it exactly and also such regions where two-string solutions collapse for any positive integers . We illustrate the extra and standard two-string solutions numerically. In the sector we show that the string deviations are exponentially small with respect to if is large. We argue that for any finite solution of the spin-1/2 XXX chain there is such a solution of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain that has the same quantum numbers in common with the XXX solution.

Some New Approaches of the XXX Heisenberg Model of the Two-Magnon Sector

M. Łabuz, Jan Milewski, Tadeusz Lulek

XXX Heisenberg s1{2 model has been examined in detail during last decades, however, recently one may find some new insights into that issue.Among several approaches describing the eigenproblem for the finite case, a close look into the structure of Bethe equations (BE) for the two-magnon sector case seems to be particularly interesting.BE enable us to evaluate parameters labeling eigenstates of a magnet, however to find appropriate sets of winding numbers, which parametrize BE, one has to apply the Inverse Bethe Ansatz method. On the other hand, one may choose a different -combinatoric approach -which also parametrizes Bethe eigenstates, with the use of rigging numbers describing string configurations. We present an idea of comparison of the concepts mentioned above for the particular case of two-spin deviations sector.

Singularities in the Bethe solution of the XXX and XXZ Heisenberg spin chains

Rahul Siddharthan

We examine the question of whether Bethe's ansatz reproduces all states in the periodic Heisenberg XXZ and XXX spin chains. As was known to Bethe himself, there are states for which the Bethe momenta $k_n$ diverge: these are in fact the simplest examples of ``string'' solutions. The coefficients of the Bethe wavefunction, too, diverge. When there are only two down spins in the system (the case considered by Bethe), we can renormalize these coefficients to get a sensible (and correct) wavefunction. We show that this is not always possible when there are more than two down spins. The Bethe equations have several such divergent solutions, and some of these correspond to genuine eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian, but several do not. Nor do they reproduce the correct energy eigenvalues. Moreover, we point out that the algebraic Bethe ansatz, an alternative way to construct the wavefunctions proposed by Faddeev, Takhtajan et al., leads to vanishing wavefunctions for all these solutions. Thus, the Bethe ansatz solution of the Heisenberg model must be regarded as either incomplete, or inaccurate.

Exact Bethe quantum numbers of the massive XXZ chain in the two down-spin sector

Takashi Imoto, Tetsuo Deguchi

Abstract Every solution of the Bethe ansatz equations (BAEs) is characterized by a set of quantum numbers called the Bethe quantum numbers, which are fundamental for evaluating each Bethe root numerically. We rigorously derive the Bethe quantum numbers for the real solutions of the spin-1/2 massive XXZ spin chain in the two down-spin sector, assuming the existence of solutions to some form of BAE. In the sector the quantum numbers J 1 and J 2 were derived for complex solutions, but not for real solutions. We show the exact results in the sector as follows. (i) When two Bethe quantum numbers are different, i.e. for J 1 ≠ J 2 , we introduce a graphical method, which we call a contour method, for deriving the solution of BAE to a given set of Bethe quantum numbers. By the method, we can readily show the existence and the uniqueness of the solution. (ii) When two Bethe quantum numbers are equal, i.e. for J 1 = J 2 , we derive the criteria for the collapse of two-strings and the emergence of an extra two-string by an analytic method. (iii) We obtain the number of real solutions, which depends on the site number N and the XXZ anisotropy parameter ζ. (iv) We derive all infinite-valued solutions of BAE for the XXX spin chain in the two down-spin sector through the XXX limit. (v) We explicitly show the completeness of the Bethe ansatz in terms of the Bethe quantum numbers.
