Magnetization plateaux in a generalised ladder model

Abstract

A spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic(AFM) generalised ladder model is constructed which consists of four-spin plaquettes, coupled through weaker exchange interactions, to two-spin rungs. In an extended parameter regime, the exact ground state of the ladder is determined. In this state, the four-spin plaquettes and the rungs are in their ground state spin configurations. In the presence of an external magnetic field, the magnetization/site has a plateau structure as a function of the magnetic field.

Magnetization of coupled spin clusters in ladder geometry

Emily Chattopadhyay, Indrani Bose

We construct a class of spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic two-chain ladder models consisting of blocks of n-spin tetrahedral clusters alternating with two-spin rungs. For $n=4$ and 6 and in extended parameter regimes, the exact ground state of the ladder is shown to be a product of the ground states of the rungs and the n-spin blocks, in both zero and finite magnetic fields. In the latter case, magnetization/site m versus magenetic field h plot exhibits well-defined magnetization plateaus.

Magnetization plateau in the spin ladder with alternating rung exchange

G. I. Japaridze, E Pogosyan

We have studied the ground state phase diagram of a spin ladder with alternating rung exchange $J^{n}_{\perp} = J_{\perp}[1 + (-1)^{n} δ]$ in a magnetic filed, in the limit where the rung coupling is dominant. In this limit the model is mapped onto an $XXZ$ Heisenberg chain in a uniform and staggered longitudinal magnetic fields, where the amplitude of the staggered field is $\sim δ$. We have shown that the magnetization curve of the system exhibits a plateau at magnetization equal to the half of the saturation value. The width of a plateau scales as $δ^ν$, where $ν=4/5$ in the case of ladder with isotropic antiferromagnetic legs and $ν=2$ in the case of ladder with isotropic ferromagnetic legs. We have calculated four critical fields ($H^{\pm}_{c1}$ and $H^{\pm}_{c2}$) corresponding to transitions between different magnetic phases of the system. We have shown that these transitions belong to the universality class of the commensurate-incommensurate transition.

Magnetization plateaux and jumps in frustrated four-leg spin tubes in magnetic fields

H. D. Rosales, Marcelo Arlego, F. A. Gómez Albarracín

We study the ground state phase diagram of a frustrated spin-1/2 four-leg tube in an external magnetic field. We explore the parameter space of this model in the regime of all-antiferromagnetic exchange couplings by means of three different approaches: density matrix renormalization group (DMRG), a low-energy effective Hamiltonian (LEH) and a Hartree variational approach (HVA). We find that in the limit of weakly interacting plaquettes, singlet and triplet states play an important role in the formation of magnetization plateaux. We study the transition regions numerically and analytically, and find that they are described, at first order in a strong- coupling expansion, by an XXZ spin-1/2 chain in a magnetic field. These results are consistent with the DMRG and HVA calculations.

Exact Ground States of Frustrated Spin-1 Ising-Heisenberg and Heisenberg Ladders in a Magnetic Field

Jozef Strečka, Frédéric Michaud, Frédéric Mila

Ground states of the frustrated spin-1 Ising-Heisenberg two-leg ladder with Heisenberg intra-rung coupling and only Ising interaction along legs and diagonals are rigorously found by taking advantage of local conservation of the total spin on each rung. The constructed ground-state phase diagram of the frustrated spin-1 Ising-Heisenberg ladder is then compared with the analogous phase diagram of the fully quantum spin-1 Heisenberg two-leg ladder obtained by density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations. Both investigated spin models exhibit quite similar magnetization scenarios, which involve intermediate plateaux at one-quarter, one-half and threequarters of the saturation magnetization.

The field-induced gap due to four-spin exchange in a spin ladder

敦志 中須, Keisuke Totsuka, Yasumasa Hasegawa +2 more

The effect of the four-spin cyclic exchange interaction at each plaquette in the $S=1/2$ two-leg spin ladder is investigated at T=0, especially focusing on the field-induced gap. The strong rung coupling approximation suggests that it yields a plateau at half of the saturation moment ($m=1/2$) in the magnetization curve, which corresponds to a field-induced spin gap with a spontaneous breaking of the translational symmetry. A precise phase diagram at $m=1/2$ is also presented based on the level spectroscopy analysis of the numerical data obtained by Lanczos method. The boundary between the gapless and plateau phases is confirmed to be of the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) universality class.

Magnetic Plateaus and Jumps in a Spin‐1/2 Ladder with Alternate Ising–Heisenberg Rungs: A Field‐Dependent Study

Sk Saniur Rahaman, Manoranjan Kumar, Shaon Sahoo

A frustrated two‐legged spin‐1/2 ladder featuring alternating Ising and isotropic Heisenberg exchange interactions on the rungs is investigated, while Ising exchanges are present along the legs and diagonals. This model exhibits the following four ground‐state phases: (i) stripe rung ferromagnet (SRFM), (ii) anisotropic antiferromagnet, (iii) dimer, and (iv) stripe leg ferromagnet. In this work, different magnetization plateaus are analyzed by studying the spin density, quantum fidelity, and quantum concurrence in the presence of longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields. The exact diagonalization and transfer matrix methods are used to solve the model Hamiltonian. In the presence of a longitudinal field, the discrete magnetization plateaus appear at 0, 1/2, and 1 of the saturation value across all phases [(i)–(iv)]. Interestingly, in the presence of an externally applied transverse field, the SRFM phase [(i)] exhibits a continuous change in magnetization. The other three phases [(ii)–(iv)] show both discrete jump and continuous change in magnetization in different limits of the transverse field.
