The study of spin-spin correlations in quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic clusters

Abstract

For a class of quasi-one-dimensional clusters, by using exact diagonalization, we study the effect of side spins on the spin-spin correlations on chain. Our calculations show that the side spins added in the same sublattice can effectively strengthen the spin-spin correlations in large distance region and make the change tend to flat. It is exactly proved that periodically adding side spins can set up magnetic long-range orders in the ground state. Also we investigate the effect of the density of side spins on correlation strength. The case that two sublattices have different localized spins is discussed.

The ground state of the 1/5-doped antiferromagntic spin chain

Yongjun Liu

By density-matrix renormalization group method, the 1/5-doping effect on the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain is investigated. It is shown that adding side spins can weaken the correlations between near-neighbor spins while strengthen those between long-range spins.Because of the broken of sublattice symmetry by side spins, the ferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic long range orders can coexist in the ground state.Side spins can lower the quantum fluctuations, and the effect will weaken as the increasing of interaction distance. The quantum fluctuation of side spin is weakest. But for the 1/5-doped antiferromagntic chain, the quantum fluctuation leads to the 47% loss of its staggered susceptibility.

Effect of frustration on spin-wave excitation of the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnetic chain with asymmetrical sublattices

Jianjun Jiang, Zhang Song-Jun, Yongjun Liu +1 more

The s=1/2 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain with asymmetrical sublattices possesses three branches of spin-wave spectra (one in acoustic mode and the other two in optical mode). The frustration relieves the gap-degeneracy of two optical branches and softens the spectrum in acoustic mode, but doesn't soften the spectra in optical mode. Also, the frustration moves down obviously one of the two spectra in optical mode. It means that the frustration makes the spin-wave excitation described by spectrum in optical mode easier and more important. The status of spin on the chain changes more easily than that of side spin under the effect of frustration. The weakening of magnetic order in ground state becomes strong with the strengthening of frustration. By comparison with numerical results of exact diagonalization and DMRG methods, we discuss the merit and drawbacks of the spin-wave approximation.

Numerical Research on Quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic Spin System

Dongfang Chen

The magnetic order of a special quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin model with numerical density matrix renormalization groups is discussed. The ground energy per unit cell, spin correlation function and the spin gap are calculated. Results show that the quasi-one-dimensional spin system has magnetic long-rang order under ground state and the spin correlation on chain is short-rang.

Spin-spin correlations in the one-dimensional spin-1/2, antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain

H. Q. Lin, David K Campbell

We have calculated the spin-spin correlations in the ground state of spin-1/2, one-dimensional, antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain numerically. Using improved algorithms, we have been able to perform exact diagonalizations for lattices up to 30 sites and quantum Monte Carlo simulations for lattices up to 512 sites. This extensive range allows us to investigate the logarithmic dependence of spin-spin correlations. We present our results and discuss their implications.

Spin correlations in low-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnets

Biao Hao, Chang-De Gong

We study the long-range behavior of spin correlations in low-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnets with both Ising anisotropy and spatial anisotropy. We represent the spin operators in terms of spin-density operators and spin-phase operators. Then for spin-1/2 antiferromagnets, within a simple harmonic approximation, we obtain expressions for the spin correlations in the ground state. For the one-dimensional linear chain, we find that the two leading terms in spin correlation are (-1${)}^{\mathit{r}}$c/${\mathit{r}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\eta}}}$-${\mathit{c}}_{1}$/${\mathit{r}}^{2}$ for large distance r. The power \ensuremath{\eta} depends on the Ising anisotropy, and \ensuremath{\eta}=0.405 at XY point and \ensuremath{\eta}=1.062 at Heisenberg point. For the two-dimensional square lattice, there is long-range staggered magnetization, and the dependence of magnetization on Ising anisotropy is given. For the crossover from one-dimensional linear chain to two-dimensional square lattice, we find that the disorder-order transition occurs as long as the interchain coupling is introduced. We believe that our method gives a unified approach to the long-range behavior of spin correlations in low-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnets.
