Abstract

We compute the finite-size corrections to the free energy, internal energy and specific heat of the critical two-dimensional spin-1/2 Ising model on triangular and hexagonal lattices wrapped on a torus. We find the general form of the finite-size corrections to these quantities, as well as explicit formulae for the first coefficients of each expansion. We analyse the implications of these findings for the renormalization-group description of the model.

Exact finite-size-scaling corrections to the critical two-dimensional Ising model on a torus

Jesús Salas

We analyse the finite-size corrections to the energy and specific heat of the critical two-dimensional spin-½ Ising model on a torus. We extend the analysis of Ferdinand and Fisher to compute the correction of order L -3 to the energy and the corrections of order L -2 and L -3 to the specific heat. We also obtain general results on the form of the finite-size corrections to these quantities: only integer powers of L -1 occur, unmodified by logarithms (except of course for the leading log L term in the specific heat); and the energy expansion contains only odd powers of L -1 . In the specific-heat expansion any power of L -1 can appear, but the coefficients of the odd powers are proportional to the corresponding coefficients of the energy expansion.

Shape-dependent finite-size effect of the critical two-dimensional Ising model on a triangular lattice

Xintian Wu, N. Sh. Izmailian, Wenan Guo

Using a bond-propagation algorithm, we study the finite-size behavior of the critical two-dimensional Ising model on a finite triangular lattice with free boundaries in five shapes: triangular, rhomboid, trapezoid, hexagonal, and rectangular. The critical free energy, internal energy, and specific heat are calculated. The accuracy of the free energy reaches 10(-26). Based on accurate data on several finite systems with linear size up to N=2000, we extract the bulk, surface, and corner parts of the free energy, internal energy, and specific heat accurately. We confirm the conformal field theory prediction that the corner free energy is universal and find logarithmic corrections in higher-order terms in the critical free energy for the rhomboid, trapezoid, and hexagonal systems, which are absent for the triangular and rectangular systems. The logarithmic edge corrections due to edges parallel or perpendicular to the bond directions in the internal energy are found to be identical, while the logarithmic edge corrections due to corresponding edges in the specific heat are different. The corner internal energy and corner specific heat for angles π/3, π/2, and 2π/3 are obtained, as well as higher-order corrections. Comparing with the corner internal energy and corner specific heat we previously found on a rectangle of the square lattice [Phys. Rev. E 86, 041149 (2012)], we conclude that the corner internal energy and corner specific heat for the rectangular shape are not universal.

Universal finite-size scaling functions with exact nonuniversal metric factors

Ming‐Chya Wu, Chin‐Kun Hu, N. Sh. Izmailian

Using exact partition functions and finite-size corrections for the Ising model on finite square, plane triangular, and honeycomb lattices and extending a method [J. Phys. 19, L1215 (1986)] to subtract leading singular terms from the free energy, we obtain universal finite-size scaling functions for the specific heat, internal energy, and free energy of the Ising model on these lattices with exact nonuniversal metric factors.

Finite-size corrections and scaling for the triangular lattice dimer model with periodic boundary conditions

N. Sh. Izmailian, Koryun B. Oganesyan, Ming‐Chya Wu +1 more

We analyze the partition function of the dimer model on M x N triangular lattice wrapped on the torus obtained by Fendley, Moessner, and Sondhi [Phys. Rev. B 66, 214513, (2002)]. Based on such an expression, we then extend the algorithm of Ivashkevich, Izmailian, and Hu [J. Phys. A 35, 5543 (2002)] to derive the exact asymptotic expansion of the first and second derivatives of the logarithm of the partition function at the critical point and find that the aspect-ratio dependence of finite-size corrections and the finite-size scaling functions are sensitive to the parity of the number of lattice sites along the lattice axis.

Finite-size scaling corrections in two-dimensional Ising and Potts ferromagnets

Sladequeiroz Instituto De, Potts Ferromagnets

. Finite-size corrections to scaling of critical correlation lengths and free energies of Ising and three-state Potts ferromagnets are analysed by numerical methods, on strips of width N sites of square, triangular and honeycomb lattices. Strong evidence is given that the amplitudes of the `analytical' correction terms, N -2 , are identically zero for triangular and honeycomb Ising systems. For Potts spins, our results are broadly consistent with this lattice-dependent pattern of cancellations, though for correlation lengths non-vanishing (albeit rather small) amplitudes cannot be entirely ruled out. 1. Introduction The systematic study of subdominant terms in scaling provides researchers with guidelines on how to extrapolate, e.g. finite-size results to the thermodynamic limit [1--5]. Also, it may in itself bring out connections to underlying physical properties. These latter may be universal, such as the relationship between critical free-energy finite-width correction and conforma...
