Dynamical phase transition of a one-dimensional kinetic Ising model with boundaries

Abstract

The Glauber model on a one-dimensional lattice with boundaries (for the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases) is considered. The large-time behavior of the one-point function is studied. It is shown that at any temperature, the system shows a dynamical phase transition. The dynamical phase transition is controlled by the rate of spin flip at the boundaries, and is a discontinuous change of the derivative of the relaxation time towards the stationary configuration.

Dynamic phase transition in the kinetic Ising model under a time-dependent oscillating field

Tânia Tomé, Mário J. de Oliveira

We analyze within a mean-field approach the stationary states of the kinetic Ising model described by the Glauber stochastic dynamics and subject to a time-dependent oscillating external field. We have found that the magnetization of the system oscillates in time around a certain value that is zero at high temperatures or large field amplitudes and nonzero at low temperatures and small field amplitudes. The transition from one regime to the other, which corresponds to a spontaneous symmetry breaking, is found to be continuous for sufficiently small values of the field amplitudes. For higher values the transition becomes discontinuous and the system exhibits a dynamical tricritical point.

Non-equilibrium phase transitions in one-dimensional kinetic Ising models

Nóra Menyhárd, Géza Ódor

A family of nonequilibrium kinetic Ising models, introduced earlier, evolving under the competing effect of spin flips at zero temperature and nearest-neighbour random spin exchanges, is further investigated. By increasing the range of spin exchanges and/or their strength the nature of the phase transition 'Ising-to-active' becomes of (dynamic) mean-field type and a first-order tricritical point is located at the Glauber ( delta =0) limit. Corrections to the mean-field theory are evaluated up to sixth order in a cluster approximation and found to give good results concerning the phase boundary and the critical exponent beta of the order parameter which is obtained as beta approximately=1.0.

Nonequilibrium dynamic phase transition in a kinetic Ising spin system

Shao Yuan-Zhi, Zhong Wei-Rong, Lu Hua-Quan +2 more

We studied within the framework of a mean-field approach the nonequilibrium dyn amic phase transition of a kinetic Ising spin system subject to a perturbative f ield and temperature simultaneously by comparison between time-dependent Ginzbur g-Landau and Glauber dynamics models. The dynamic phase transition (DPT) boundar ies, separating a symmetry-breaking dynamic ordered phase from its symmetric dyn amic disordered counterpart, were identified through a systematic simulation of the above two models. The dependence of the dynamic order parameter Q and the fo urth order cumulant ratio U upon the temperature t(r0), the frequency ω and amplitude h0 of driving field were also investigated in detai l. A discussion was presented concerning the current controversies on whether bo th a discontinuous dynamic phase transition occurs possibly below a specific low temperature and a tri-critical point exists on the DPT boundary in a kinetic Is ing spin system.

Dynamic phase transitions in the kinetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-5/2 Ising model under a time-dependent oscillating magnetic field

Bayram Deviren, Mustafa Keskín, Osman Canko

We calculate the dynamic phase transition (DPT) temperatures and present the dynamic phase diagrams in the kinetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-5/2 Ising model under the presence of a time-dependent oscillating external magnetic field. We employ the Glauber transition rates to construct the set of mean-field dynamic equations. The time variation of the average magnetizations and the thermal behavior of the dynamic magnetizations are investigated, extensively. The nature (continuous or discontinuous) of the transitions is characterized by studying the thermal behaviors of the dynamic magnetizations. The DPT points are obtained and the phase diagrams are presented in two different planes. Phase diagrams contain four fundamental phases and three coexistence or mixed phases, which strongly depend on interaction parameters. The phase diagrams are discussed and a comparison is made with the results of the other mixed spin Ising systems.

Non-Markovian persistence at the parity conserving point of a one-dimensional nonequilibrium kinetic Ising model

Nóra Menyhárd, Géza Ódor

One-dimensional nonequilibrium kinetic Ising models evolving under the competing effect of spin - flips at zero temperature and nearest-neighbour spin exchanges exhibiting a parity-conserving (PC) phase transition on the level of kinks are investigated here numerically from the point of view of the underlying spin system. The dynamical persistency exponent and the exponent characterizing the two-time autocorrelation function of the total magnetization under nonequilibrium conditions are reported. It is found that the critical fluctuations at the PC transition have a strong effect on the spins: the behaviour becomes non-Markovian and the above exponents exhibit drastic changes as compared with the Markovian Glauber - Ising case. In this context the crucial importance of considering the global order parameter (instead of the local one) is emphasized.

Monte Carlo simulation of an antiferromagnetic Ising model at two competing temperatures

B. C. S. Grandi, W. Figueiredo

We consider a two-dimensional antiferromagnet Ising system interacting with a heat bath at temperature T. The dynamics of the system is simulated by two competing stochastic processes: the two-spin-exchange Kawasaki kinetics at temperature T>0 and the one-spin-flip Glauber dynamics at T(G)-->0(-), which mimics the increase of the energy of the system. These two processes have probabilities 1-p and p, respectively. Monte Carlo simulations were employed to determine the phase diagram for the stationary states of the model and the corresponding critical exponents. Contrary to the ferromagnetic case, the phase diagram obtained does not exhibit the phenomenon of self-organization: for any nonzero value of the competing parameter p, and for any value of T, the only stationary phase which remains is the ferromagnetic one. At the phase transition between the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases, at p=0, the values found for the critical exponents agree with those of the corresponding equilibrium Ising model.
