Abstract

In this paper we study the phase diagram of two Ising planes coupled by a standard spin-spin interaction with bond randomness in each plane. The whole phase diagram is analysed with the help of Monte Carlo simulations and field theory arguments.

Phase diagrams of random Ising magnets

Michael F. Thorpe, Arthur R. McGurn

We examine the various kinds of phase diagrams that can occur in magnetic alloys when all the interactions have the same sign, i.e., all ferromagnetic. It is pointed out that these phase diagrams can be usefully cataloged in terms of the initial slope [$\frac{\ensuremath{\partial}(\mathrm{ln}{T}_{c})}{\ensuremath{\partial}p}$] of the transition temperature ${T}_{c}$ with concentration $p$ at the two points $p=0$ and $p=1$. For the two-dimensional Ising model, these initial slopes can be obtained exactly, using perturbation theory, for alloys involving either bond or site disorder. For site disorder we obtain results for a spin $S$ in a host with spin \textonehalf{}. We show that mean-field theory is fairly reliable but fails to predict some kinds of phase diagrams that may occur.

Phase Diagram of mixed bond Ising systems by use of Monte Carlo and the effective-field theory

J.B. Santos-Filho, N. O. Moreno, Douglas F. de Albuquerque

The phase transition of a random mixed-bond Ising ferromagnet on a cubic lattice model is studied both numerically and analytically. In this work, we use the Cluster algorithms of Wolff and Glauber to simulate the dynamics of the system. We obtained the thermodynamic quantities such as magnetization, susceptibility, and specific heat. Our results were compared with those obtained using a new technique in effective field theory that employs similar probability distribution within the framework of two-site clusters

Phase diagrams of the diluted and random-bond Ising model

Ligia Edith Zamora, German Antonio Pérez Alcázar, Alberto Bohorquez +2 more

The quenched-bond disordered Ising model is studied by means of the mean-field renormalization-group approach. Besides dilution and ferromagnetic random bond, the probability distribution function also includes two extra competing random bonds which can be ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic, depending on the sign of some competing parameters. The critical temperature against ferromagnetic bond concentration phase diagrams are analyzed for several values of the theoretical parameters.

Phase diagrams of the ferrimagnetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-5/2 Ising model under a longitudinal magnetic field

N. Hachem, M Alehyane, Amer Lafhal +4 more

Abstract The ferrimagnetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-5/2 Ising model with a crystal field interaction in the absence and presence of a longitudinal magnetic field on a three-dimensional cubic lattice is studied within the framework both of the mean-field approximation (MFA) and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). Using the MFA, we have shown the phase diagram of the model for zero magnetic field in the (anisotropy, temperature) plane in which the system exhibits first- and second-order phase transitions and critical end-points. Also, we have used the standard MCS to confirm the previous results; we have presented the temperature dependence of the sublattice and total magnetizations for different values of anisotropy in order to determine the phase diagram of the model in the absence of a longitudinal magnetic field. In addition, the influence of this last field on the magnetic properties of the model is investigated and discussed.

It is pointed out that these phase diagrams can be usefully cataloged in terms of the initial slope [$\frac{\ensuremath{\partial}(\mathrm{ln}{T}_{c})}{\ensuremath{\partial}p}$] of the transition temperature Tc{T}_{c}Tc with concentration ppp at the two points p=0p=0p=0 and p=1p=1p=1. For the two-dimensional Ising model, these initial slopes can be obtained exactly, using perturbation theory, for alloys involving either bond or site disorder. For site disorder we obtain results for a spin SSS in a host with spin \textonehalf{}. We show that mean-field theory is fairly reliable but fails to predict some kinds of phase diagrams that may occur.
