Abstract

The fermion Green function and spectral characteristics for the 2D Fröhlich model of superconductivity at static fluctuations in the phase of the order parameter are calculated. The results demonstrate strongly non-Fermi-liquid properties of the system at finite temperatures and relate with the pseudogap behavior of high-Tc superconductors at relatively small charge carrier densities.

PHASE FLUCTUATIONS AND NON-FERMI LIQUID PROPERTIES OF 2D FERMI-SYSTEM WITH ATTRACTION

V. P. Gusynin, VADIM M. LOKTEV, RACHEL M. QUICK +1 more

The effect of static fluctuations in the phase of the order parameter on the normal and superconducting properties of a 2D system with attractive four-fermion interaction has been studied. Analytic expressions for the fermion Green function, its spectral density and the density of states are derived. The resultant single-particle Green function clearly demonstrates non-Fermi liquid behavior. The results show that as the temperature increases through the 2D critical temperature the width of the quasiparticle peaks broadens significantly. At the same time one retains the gap in quasiparticle spectrum. The spectral density for the dynamical fluctuations can also be obtained. Clearly the dynamical fluctuations fill the gap giving the observed pseudogap behaviour.

Phase fluctuations and single-fermion spectral density in 2d systems with attraction

V. P. Gusynin, В. М. Локтев, Sergei G. Sharapov

The effect of static fluctuations in the phase of the order parameter on the normal and superconducting properties of a 2D system with attractive four-fermion interaction is studied. Analytic expressions for the fermion Green’s function, its spectral density, and the density of states are derived in the approximation where the coupling between the spin and charge degrees of freedom is neglected. The resulting single-particle Green’s function clearly demonstrates a non-Fermi-liquid behavior. The results show that as the temperature increases through the 2D critical temperature, the widths of the quasiparticle peaks broaden significantly.

On the normal phase of 2D Fermi liquid with weak attraction between particles

V. P. Gusynin, В. М. Локтев, Igor A. Shovkovy

Proceeding from the simplest field theoretical model of 2D metal, the normal phase Green functions of the weakly interacting fermions and the order parameter fluctuations (responsible for the attraction between fermions) are obtained. It is shown that taking into consideration the fluctuations mentioned leads to a considerable reduction of the fermion wave function renormalization constant (quasiparticle weight) as well as to a linear dependence of the quasiparticle damping on the temperature. A general dependence of 2D Fermi liquid properties on the fermion density is discussed. The relevance of the proposed model to the marginal behavior of the Fermi liquid of high--$T_c$ superconductors, in particular, to their linear temperature dependence of the resistivity is indicated.

Anisotropic pseudogap in the half-filling 2-d Hubbard model at finite T

Taiichirou Saikawa, Ferraz, A.

We have studied the pseudogap formation in the single-particle spectra of the half-filling two-dimensional Hubbard model. Using a Green's function with the one-loop self-energy correction of the spin and charge fluctuations, we have numerically calculated the self-energy, the spectral function, and the density of states in the weak-coupling regime at finite temperature. Pseudogap formations have been observed in both the density of states and the spectral function at the Fermi level. The pseudogap in the spectral function is explained by the non-Fermi-liquid-like nature of the self-energy. The anomalous behavior in the self-energy is caused by both the strong antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation and the nesting condition on the non-interacting Fermi surface. In the present approximation, we find a logarithmic singularity in the integrand of the imaginary part of the self-energy. Concerning the energy dependence of the spectral function and the self-energy, two theorems are proved. They give a necessary condition in the self-energy to produce the pseudogap at the Fermi level. The pseudogap in the spectral function is highly momentum dependent on the Fermi surface. It opens initially in the $(\pm π,0)$, $(0,\pm π)$ regions as the normal state pseudogap observed in the high-$T_c$ superconductors and if the interaction is increased, it spreads to other Fermi surface sectors. The anisotropy of the pseudogap is produced by the low-energy enhancement of the spin excitation around ${\bf Q}=(π,π)$ and the flatness of the band dispersion around the saddle point.
