Dimensional scaling estimate of the energy of a large system from that of its building blocks: Hubbard model and Fermi liquid

Klaus Capelle, L. Nunes de Oliveira

A simple, physically motivated, scaling hypothesis, which becomes exact in important limits, yields estimates for the ground-state energy of large, composed, systems in terms of the ground-state energy of its building blocks. The concept is illustrated for the electron liquid, and the Hubbard model. By means of this scaling argument the energy of the one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model is estimated from that of a two-site Hubbard dimer, obtaining quantitative agreement with the exact one-dimensional Bethe-Ansatz solution, and the energies of the two- and three-dimensional half-filled Hubbard models are estimated from the one-dimensional energy, recovering exact results for $U\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ and $U\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}$ and coming close to quantum Monte Carlo data for intermediate $U$.

Ground State of the Kondo-Hubbard Model at Half Filling

Takashi Yanagisawa, Yukihiro Shimoi

We investigate the ground state of the Kondo-Hubbard model employing the recently introduced idea of spin-reflection positivity. It is shown exactly that the Kondo-Hubbard model for $J<0$ and $U>|J|/4$ at half filling has a unique ground state which can be ferromagnetic or singlet according to the lattice structure. In particular, for the Kondo lattice with $U>|J|/4$, the ground state is a singlet. We also show a theorem for the Kondo-Hubbard model with the anisotropic antiferromagnetic coupling ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}>0$ and ${J}_{z}\ensuremath{\le}0$ for $U>|{J}_{z}|/4$.

Ground-state quantum numbers of the half-filled Hubbard model

Working on a square lattice with an even number of sites ${\mathit{N}}^{2}$ and assuming a smooth connection between strong and weak coupling, we show that the ground state of the two-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model has momentum ${\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{x}}$-${\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{y}}$=0, it is even under reflections, and transforms as an s wave under rotations when N/2 is even and as a d wave when N/2 is odd.

We investigate the ground state of the Kondo-Hubbard model employing the recently introduced idea of spin-reflection positivity. It is shown exactly that the Kondo-Hubbard model for J<0J<0J<0 and U>∣J∣/4U>|J|/4U>∣J∣/4 at half filling has a unique ground state which can be ferromagnetic or singlet according to the lattice structure. In particular, for the Kondo lattice with U>∣J∣/4U>|J|/4U>∣J∣/4, the ground state is a singlet. We also show a theorem for the Kondo-Hubbard model with the anisotropic antiferromagnetic coupling ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}>0$ and ${J}_{z}\ensuremath{\le}0$ for U>∣Jz∣/4U>|{J}_{z}|/4U>∣Jz∣/4.
Working on a square lattice with an even number of sites N2{\mathit{N}}^{2}N2 and assuming a smooth connection between strong and weak coupling, we show that the ground state of the two-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model has momentum kx{\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{x}}kx-ky{\mathit{k}}_{\mathit{y}}ky=0, it is even under reflections, and transforms as an s wave under rotations when N/2 is even and as a d wave when N/2 is odd.
