Abstract

We propose a novel magnetic guide for cold neutral atoms using some current-carring conductors,The spatial distributions of the magnetic fields from a V-shaped or U-shaped current-carrying coductor are calculated.and the relationship between the resulting magnetic field and the parametes of the current-carrying conductors is analysed in dtail,The result shows that these current-craaying conductors can be used to realize a single or a controllable double magnetic guide of cold atoms in the weak-field-seeking state, and to construct various atom-optical elements, and even to realize a single-mode atomic waveguiding under certain conditions.

We propose a novel magnetic guide for cold neutral atoms using some current-carrying conductors. The spatial distributions of the magnetic fields from a V-shaped or U-shaped current-carrying conductor are calculated, and the relationship between the resulting magnetic field and the parameters of the current-carrying conductors is analysed in detail. The result shows that these current-carrying conductors can be used to realize a single or a controllable double magnetic guide of cold atoms in the weak-field-seeking state, and to construct various atom-optical elements, and even to realize a single-mode atomic waveguiding under certain conditions.

Magnetic guide of cold atoms using a U-shaped current-carrying conductor

Liu Nan-Chun, Yin Jian-Ping

We propose a new scheme to magnetically guide cold neutral atoms using a U-shaped current carrying conductor. The spatial magnetic field distribution from the U-shaped current-carrying conductor and the relationship between the magnetic field and parameters of the U-shaped conductor are analysed. Our study shows that U-shaped current-carrying conductor can be used to realize single- or double-channel magnetic guiding of cold atoms in weak-field-seeking states and to construct various atom-optical elements. By using Monte Carlo simulations, the dynamic process of the guided atomic-beam splitting in an atomic-beam splitter composed by the U-shaped current-carrying conductor is studied and some results are presented.

Magnetic Guide and Trap for Cold Neutral Atoms with Current‐Carrying Wires and Conductors

Jianping Yin, Weijian Gao, Nanchun Liu +2 more

Abstract We propose two novel schemes for guiding cold, neutral atoms using static magnetic fields generated by several cylindrical arrays of current‐carrying wires or a few different‐shaped (V‐, or U‐shaped, etc.) current‐carrying conductors, and calculate the corresponding magnetic‐field contours and their trapping potentials. Our study shows that some guiding schemes can be used to form an atomic funnel, or an atomic beam‐splitter, or even construct an atomic interferometer, and some guiding schemes can be used to realize a single‐mode wave guide of ultracold atoms (or coherent matter waves, BEC) under certain conditions. We also propose a few new schemes to microscopically trap neutral atoms by using various planar arrays of current‐carrying wires and calculate the spatial distribution of the magnetic fields. Our research shows that these microtrap arrays can be used to form 1D, 2D or 3D atomic magnetic lattices, and then to prepare 1D, 2D or 3D photonic crystals, even to realize a 1D, 2D or 3D array of magnetically‐trapped BECs or Bose Clusters.

Controllable cold atom beam splitter based on parallel current-carrying wires and bias magnetic field

Liu Nan-Chun

A novel controllable cold neutral atom guiding scheme based on parallel current-carrying wires and bias magnetic field is proposed.Magnetic field distribution in cross-section at different transverse bias field B_(bx) is calculated. The centre of magnetic traps is discussed.Single-channel and double-channel magnetic guiding can be realized.Based on this scheme,an atom beam splitter, which has adjustable splitting ratio, is designed by adding a longitudinal magnetic bias field B_(by).The transverse distribution of magnetic trap is calculated, and the magnetic contour plane of the splitter is shown.By using the classical Monte-Carlo method, the splitting process is simulated, and this scheme is validated by the simulation results.Splitting ratio between left and right guide changes from 0.9/0.1 to 0.1/0.9 when longitudinal magnetic bias field B_(by) changes from -0.005 G to 0.005 G.

Arrays of microscopic magnetic traps for cold atoms and their applications in atom optics

印建平, 高伟建, 胡建军

A single microscopic magnetic trap for neutral atoms using planar current-carrying wires was proposed and studied theoretically by Weinstein et al.In this paper,we propose three structures of composite current-carrying wires to provide 1D,2D and 3D arrays of microscopic magnetic traps for cold alkali atoms. The spatial distributions of magnetic fields generated by these structures are calculated and the field gradient and curvature in each single microtrap are analysed. Our study shows that arrays of microscopic magnetic traps can be used to provide 1D,2D or 3D atomic magnetic lattices, and even to realize 1D,2D and 3D arrays of magneto-optical traps, and so on.
