ON PAIRS WITH A NON-ZERO ANGULAR MOMENTUM IN FERMI SYSTEMS

Abstract

The properties of a Fermi system with a non-zero angular momentum pair interaction are investigated. Uncoupling of the three-particle Green function that yields a solution with isotropic and anisotropic gaps is suggested. It is shown that the solution with the anisotropic gap is asymptotically exact. The difficulties that appear in deriving the solutions with the isotropic gap are discussed. (auth)

SUPERFLUIDITY IN A FERMI SYSTEM IN THE PRESENCE OF PAIRS WITH NONZERO ANGULAR MOMENTUM

L. P. Gor’kov, Viktor Mikhaĭlovich Galit︠s︡kiĭ

A picture of the superconductive state in a Fermi system is proposed for the zero angular momentum. It is shown that if the system does not possess a total angular momentum, the ground state should be isotropic. The Fermi excitation spectrum has the usual form with an isotropic (auth)

COLLECTIVE EXCITATIONS OF PARTICLES WITH NON-ZERO ANGULAR MOMENTUM PAIRING

Валентин Григорьевич Вакс, Viktor Mikhaĭlovich Galit︠s︡kiĭ, A. I. Larkin

Collective excitations are considered for a system of Fermi particles for which attraction in a state with nonzero angular momentum is predominant. In such a system, beside sound excitations, other collective excitations without a gap in the energy spectrum will exist. The velocity of these excitations can be expressed in terms of the gap in the single-particle excitation spectrum. It is pointed out that the solution for the ground state function with DELTA (n)~Y/sub 22/ (n) is unstable. (auth)

Classification of states of single- j fermions with J -pairing interaction

Y. M. Zhao, A. Arima

In this paper we show that a system of three fermions is exactly solvable for the case of a single-$j$ in the presence of an angular momentum-$J$ pairing interaction. On the basis of the solutions for this system, we obtain new sum rules for six-$j$ symbols. When the Hamiltonian contains only an interaction between pairs of fermions coupled to spin $J={J}_{\mathrm{max}}=2j\ensuremath{-}1$, the ``non-integer'' eigenvalues of three fermions with angular momentum $I$ around the maximum appear as ``non-integer'' eigenvalues of four fermions if $I$ is around (or larger than) ${J}_{\mathrm{max}}$. This pattern is also found in five and six fermion systems. A boson system with spin $l$ exhibits a similar pattern.

ON THE STATE OF A FERMI-SYSTEM WITH CORRELATION OF PAIRS OF PARTICLES WITH PARALLEL SPINS. I. GROUND--STATE

Zygmunt M. Galasiewicz

S>The solution of a compensation equation of dangerous graphs, for a system of interacting Fermi-particles, as an odd function of wave vectors is investigated. It is shown that this solution leads to the anomalous state, the energy of which is smaller than the energy of the normal state. The energy difference is equal to the binding energy of the pairs of fermions with parallel spin-moments. This anomalous state can exist in the presence of attractive Coulomb interactions. The elementary excitations are separated from the ground state by a gap the width of which depends on the direction of the wave vector. For the direction perpendicular to the spin direction, energy gap is zero and therefore the state cannot be superconducting. The binding energy of the pairs and the width of the energy gap are of the same order as in the theory based on the creation of pairs with antiparallel spin-moments, where in the expansion of the interaction term in spherical harmonics, the first coefficient is more than three times greater than the zero coefficient. In the absence of the magnetic field the total spin of a system is zero. In the presence of the magnetic field the total spinmore » differs from zero. The paramagnetic susceptibility is calculated. SINGLE PARTICLE EXCITATIONS AND SUPER-FLUIDITY IN SYSTEMS CONSISTING OF FERMI PARTICLES WITH AN ARBITRARY INTERACTION APPLICATION TO THE NUCLEUS

A.B. Migdal

An equation set describtng single particle excitations for excitation energies which are small compared with the chemical potential of the system can be obtained by investigating the analytical properties of the Green's functions and taking into account pair correlation. The equations are valid for an arbitrary interaction law. Equations are derived which describe the excited states of a system with a finite number of particles with an accuracy to terms of the order of N/sup -//sup 1//sup ///sup 3/ It is indicated how the results can be applied to real nuclei. SPECTRUM OF ELEMENTARY EXCITATIONS OF SUPER-FLUID FERMI SYSTEMS

I.I. Krush, Yu.V. Tsekhmistrenko

A number of problems involving the spectrum of elementary excitations of superfluid Fermi systems were studied by the methods of quantum field theory. A system with direct binary interaction is considered at zero and non-zero temperature, as well as an electron-phonon system at absolute zero. On finding Schwinger's equations for oneparticle Greene functions, use was made of the ground state approximation proposed by N. N. Bogoliubov, i.e., a formalism was applied which does not preserve the full number of particles. (auth)

In this paper we show that a system of three fermions is exactly solvable for the case of a single-jjj in the presence of an angular momentum-JJJ pairing interaction. On the basis of the solutions for this system, we obtain new sum rules for six-jjj symbols. When the Hamiltonian contains only an interaction between pairs of fermions coupled to spin $J={J}_{\mathrm{max}}=2j\ensuremath{-}1$, the ``non-integer'' eigenvalues of three fermions with angular momentum III around the maximum appear as ``non-integer'' eigenvalues of four fermions if III is around (or larger than) Jmax{J}_{\mathrm{max}}Jmax. This pattern is also found in five and six fermion systems. A boson system with spin lll exhibits a similar pattern.
